Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 7/10/2017 A blood red summer has come. As the Edo Bugei students finish facing off with the ikko forces all across the nation a massive steel ship floats towards Edo Harbor. The final battle between the Ikko Ikki rebels and the Edo Bugei students is about to begin. The lingering question now, just how much of Edo will be left standing once the battle ends?

Edo Castle Grounds
May/Afternoon/Cloudy Weather

MUSIC IS HERE!

It had been three hours since the attack on Edo had began in earnest. Most of the city was a war zone with civilians running and finding cover wherever they could. In this time the enemy battleship's cannons had been reloaded twice and the grounds of Edo castle looked burnt bloody. The castle, symbol of the Shogun's power, now had multiple holes in it and the castle walls had come crashing into the moat below. The beautiful parks of Central Edo now looked like a wasteland.

The Ikko forces in each part of the city had risen up as the main Ikko ship crashed into Southern Edo's harbor. Ikko monks and samurai, highly trained and on multiple pain killers, had spread through out Edo to back up the sleeping Ikko forces within the city. While Edo's samurai and Bugei Students had fought hard the front lines currently crumbled. The situation was dire and even the students left behind in Edo at full strength had a hard time facing the rebels without the mass of students that had been sent abroad.

Fortunately it was about this time that most of the students would return. Each of them would be given clear orders by a scrambling group of students deep within Edo Bugei of what area they currently needed the students in most. No doubt the students returning from battles with the Ikko would be in shock to find just how much of Edo was already torn apart.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Edo Castle's grounds remained completely silent. Never in it's history had Central Edo been this quiet and this empty. Everything about it was strange. As overhead a single woman jumped from a helicopter, into a shadow, and then appeared safely on the ground. Huzake Kurome would have just gotten back to Edo. She would almost be able to sense the blood lust in the air. Something was almost painfully wrong. Not the battles all over the city, not the destroyed castle behind her, but just something around her. In the distance she would see fighting.

Aoyama, Osore and Rakuyama, Buru had their hands full. All around them ninja swarmed. They didn't look like Fuma or Hattori. Instead they had all black on and fox masks as they would quickly throw daggers at the students, or dash at them, slash, and then quickly jump away. It was a trap meant to wear them down cut by cut and the students unfortunately had been caught in it. Other Bugei students had come with them but currently lay at the feet of the two, already dead with various kunai sticking out of their corpses. The five ninja running around the students didn't have visible faces, but one could easily tell that underneath the masks they happened to be smiling.

As Kurome would have moved towards the ninjas a single figure appeared in front of her. She wouldn't recognize this person, but he simply glared at her, his eyes sharp and dangerous.

"Huzaki Kurome. I would be very happy if you told me what you have done with the woman you rescued." he said quietly as he drew a straight sword from behind his back.
"She is very important to us." the sword was all black, and Kurome would be able to tell that the edge was poisoned. Most likely this was the same ninja she had heard speaking last fall when the Ikko tried to kill the Shogun. The same ninja that had fought the Bugei students last year in Shikoku. This fox masked man was also the same person that Hattori Keiichi had asked her to kill. The current head of the Koga-ryu. Of course Kurome would know that the girl was still in the helicopter with Kai and Keiichi's unconscious body. Roshi had been dropped off in another part of Edo before the rest of them had come here.

-----------------------------------------------------

The Bugei had given orders to four students in particular to handle Eastern Edo. The students that hadn't left Edo would have arrived earlier and been fighting for at least the past two hours, fighting Ikko monks and ninja or currently crossing weapons with what would likely feel like the thousandth rebel samurai they'd seen today.

Welcome to the castle, though that was perhaps not the most accurate introduction for Buru who had been there once before to be tested for her magical doodad and she really hadn't been interested in seeing it then either. Now it was very clear that she was less than welcome what with all the psycho crazy weirdos running around. Damn ninja things running around were a real pain, not that she minded a little pain sometimes but none of them were hanging around for a real fight. She really wasn't dressed for this, not exactly.

She'd been away from the school on a shopping trip, it was the day she'd get her motorcycle and be complete again. But now that plan was scarpered and the town was in utter chaos and all the students were supposed to meet up and help fight off the invasion. Well far be it from Buru to shirk the call of duty or whatever. At least she was finally doing what she'd been banished to the town for. Maybe afterward, she'd get to go home, record clean and shiny. The thought that she might die never entered her mind, applied to her, it was not in her vocabulary.

Still, even without her school uniform with it's armor, the protective bike leathers she'd worn for test driving had proved well up to the task of drugged up idiots with an assortment of weapons so far. It wasn't even fun, they tended to drop after a few heavy punches to the face with her stone coated arm. She'd been quite keen to try out the trick but it really was over kill for the small time enemies.

She'd taken her bike chain and swung it to wrap around her arm and then stoned up. It had turned her arm into a stone club with metal studs and it not only hit pretty darn hard, but it could tear up unprotected skin pretty well too. She would have liked to use it in her fight against that other guy from before but that would be saved for later, once these jerks had been dealt with and she'd finished her shopping.

But while the club strategy had proved too much for regular fighters on the way to the castle, these ninja types were showing off the flaws. They were too quick, too sneaky, and all around too annoying for her to get a good swing in. The only one she'd caught was with a lucky swing. So she switched tactics and now was using the chain as it was meant to be used. Maybe she couldn't snag people on a bike but at the speed these ninjas were running past, they could slice themselves up well enough.

She smashed the masked face of a ninja who had been just a little too slow into the ground, putting him out of the fight, if getting dead stopped from a full run with a bike chain around the neck hadn't already done that. Bu stood up and glanced around quickly. The next attack could come from anywhere after all, the ninja were sneaky but at least she had some allies from school, even if she hadn't met them before, they were probably trained fighters, right?

From the look of it, there were five obvious targets left, at least, five that Bu felt confident they could handle. And, perhaps one fun lover to another, they were smiling. That was good, what was the point of battle if you weren't enjoying it. She couldn't help laughing and so she laughed and began to whirl the chain in a high speed circle.

He walked the castle grounds slowly with a grimace of disgust on his face. Osore had come to the castle in an attempt at gaining insight on the advisors and how they work here, and so had dressed in his formal attire. He had moved indoors after hearing the clashing of blades, tapping his way down the castle hallway, people running past him in a flurry. He ran his fingers against the wall until he found a sign that was hung up, and luckily it had a braille section. Somehow the castle still had a religious center.

He moved along the hallway muttering something about combat being dirty and unbecoming a priest of his lineage. "My family puts people in the ground, but we don't do the deed...ridiculous. Who would raid an entire city?" He continued to mumble as he made his way. He walked into the chamber to find it more or less empty. No people anyway. He tapped around with his cane and found several seats in the room, and then a central meditation platform. He sat down and folded his legs, and felt around for what he knew would be near, a pack of incense. He retrieved a few sticks of it along with a holder for them and a book of matches, and lit them in the best ring around himself that he could manage.

He figured that sooner or later he would be approached by an enemy of the nation, but instead of immediately trying to attack, he would remain in place. He detested combat, both for it's violence and cause of suffering. To anyone who entered, he would speak calmly with a deep tone, and offer them to sit with him. He was prepared to defend himself in the only way he knew how; passive persuasion and toying with people's emotions.

The helicopter ride back to Edo was a quiet and somber one. The young girl that clung to Kurome kept whimpering and crying into her shoulder. "Shh, shh it'll be okay." She whispered to her, rubbing her back and trying to keep her comforted. Kurome glanced up and gave a half smile to Kai - the leader of the group, and one of her best friends.

As they arrived within Edo, she looked out the windows and saw that Edo was hardly even that anymore. The castle was full of holes, covered in smoke. Once a symbol of hope for the people, now destroyed. The once beautiful parks that Kurome could fondly remember training in, were a disaster. Edo castle itself was burning. She watched it quietly, soaking in the image and letting it burn into her brain. They would pay for this.

The young girl looked over to Roshi and Kai as they got closer. She placed her mouth gently on the girls head and whispered, "I have to go help save they city now, so you can be safe. Please stay with Kai, Roshi, and Amara." The girl whimpered and shook her head and clung to Kurome, but Kai pulled her off gently. She looked into his eyes and saw that he meant her good luck. Then, she leaned over and gave him a quick kiss.

Music starts here~

Kurome smiled and turned, then opened the door and looked down at the city as they flew over. Her clothes, covered by combat gear, flapped in the wind. On her back were her new weapons, brought to her in the helicopter that came to pick her up. Two pole staffs with blades on both ends, and a short retractable pole staff hanging from her belt on the side. She looked down to make sure her boots and combat gear were on tightly, then she jumped.

Kurome pulled her mask over her head and the eyes glowed. She waved her arm and a shadow portal opened in front of her. The girl disappeared into the shadows, and the portal disappeared with wiggly tentacle shaped shadows. Another one appeared on the ground, and suddenly, a tall girl with purple hair and a mask with glowing eyes appeared from the portal. She landed in the Three point landing and then stood up, brushing the dust off.

There was something weird about the air. She looked around and frowned. Bodies, discarded weapons, and blood was everywhere. The castle was destroyed, the sounds of battle were everywhere. In the distance, she noticed a battle that was deep into it's progress. Students she recognized were surrounded by ninjas, two were dead. She frowned and began to run forward to assist them.

However, stopping her in her tracks was a man with a black fox mask. His eyes seemed to cut through her armour. She glared at him and drew her double-bladed pole staff as he spoke.
"Huzaki Kurome. I would be very happy if you told me what you have done with the woman you rescued. She is very important to us."
Kurome twirled her pole staff in her hand and growled. "Not on my life." She saw his jet black sword and noticed it was poisoned. She could not let that touch her. It was time to play dirty. The girl, with her mask still on, ran forward with her pole staff out. She quickly waved her hand and opened a portal, jumped through it, and came out the other side behind the fox masked man. Then she swung the top blade towards his torso, and then quickly swung the bottom blade towards his legs. Her goal was to slice open both his backside and his legs. It may not kill him, but it would slow him down, giving her an advantage. Kurome prepared to dodge him..

Nakamura Kumori had been very quiet since the events of the preceding fall. Being seriously injured during the final battle had given her time to reflect on her life a bit. As such she'd come to some conclusions about the frivolity which she'd surrounded herself with. Trying to find fame as a singer, even online, had distracted her from the warriors' craft. Her hair had grown out far too long to be more than a burden in a fight as well. Someone could grab it and use it to arrest her movements. It'd been something she'd placed pride in as a former shrine maiden trainee.

Like so many other things in her past, she'd decided it was time to put away the things of youth. Time for her to become a woman - a woman worthy of the Oda clan's support. So it was that when she responded to the ensuing attack of ninja that Kumori had much shorter hair and a fiercer expression on her face. All of what had been happening was the return of the villains who'd attacked in fall. Now she would rip them apart with her fury. Kumori had arrived on the flank of the assaulting ninja group, drawing her daisho dramatically.

"Time to die," she quietly spoke before letting loose a guttural roar that might even be considered bloodthirsty. With that she charged the nearest ninja and swung her katana in a feint meant to create an opening for a wakizashi stab to the throat.

MUSIC IS HERE!

The leader of the fox masked ninjas looked at Kurome with what could only be described as a mix of disgust and disappointment. As Kurome charged forward at him the figure didn't move, instead tensing his body a little, even as Kurome jumped from one shadow to another. As she appeared behind him, the fox masked figure looked at her with cold eyes.
"Impressive" he said simply as she sliced through his leg and torso. What would have, at first, felt like solid blows quickly changed to blades slicing through fabric and cloth as he appeared a few feet away from her, glaring.

"Huzaki Kurome. You WILL tell me." and as he made sure to make eye contact with Kurome his eyes turned a beautiful shade of purple. Kurome's eyes would slowly begin turning the same color as he spoke.
"Kurome, it really hurts you won't tell me. Would you really not? Could you really not tell me of all people?" he asked softly. His words would slowly echo in her mind, sinking in. The feelings of aggression she had towards the person gradually being replaced by a sense of friendship and caring the longer they kept eye contact. It felt like she had known this person since birth. As though her best friend was asking a favor of her and something about it felt as though she couldn't refuse. Though, it also didn't seem right. Something in the very back of Kurome's mind told her that this wasn't right. Why all of a sudden did she feel she knew him? Why couldn't she want to kill someone she was actively attacking? Why was this situation so wrong?

As she paused her mind would wrestle with itself. He had used a technique meant to command lesser ranking ninja. A special activated ability meant for use on other shinobi. However, even though Kurome considered herself a ninja she was not actually part of the Iga-ryu. This fact meant the technique would not be at full power. Instead her heart and her head would do battle with one another as the fox masked man kept looking at her with the same glowing, purple eyes. Politely asking for her to answer his question.

---------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, far away Buru would be busy trying to protect herself from the five ninja around. as the ninja continued their attacks the Bugei students that had come with Buru would all end up dead by multiple shuriken to the eyes and neck, leaving only Buru, alone. At least until an enraged new bugei student showed up, swords out as one of the five ninja was quickly struck down. The other four looked in horror at Kumori and pulled out small silver balls that they quickly flung at both Kumori and Buru. As the projectiles hit a solid surface they would explode like loud, bright firecrackers. It was meant to disorientate the opponent as two ninja quickly ran and slashed at Kumori while the other two ducked low and charged at Buru, hoping to move under her swinging chain defense to stab at her legs.

---------------------------------------------------------

Close to the central area another Bugei student, Osore, had arrived. However, not wanting to quickly help his comrades he instead tried to pray. Even as Edo Castle began to crumble he had illegally entered the castle in order to pray for the people of Edo. While he prayed he could hear all of the war sounds going on around him and people screaming and trying to hide or leave Edo Castle.

Summary

One ninja dead. Two attacking Kumori. Two attacking Buru.

Boss used an activated 2 that is meant to command lower ranking ninja. Since Kurome is not fully a ninja it is only half effective. Boss used a passive ability to avoid Kurome's standard attacks.

Osore is praying while everyone else fights.

One down. There was little more thought that crossed the girl's mind as the man she'd stabbed fell lifeless at her feet. These were murderers who were trying to slaughter other young people like herself. She knew what her family would tell her to do - make an example of these fools. Her usually calm eyes showed a torrent of anger and fire as she reached up and touched her hairpin. Kumori closed her eyes in focus as the relic took effect, just as the projectiles exploded nearby. While her hearing was a bit impaired, she opened her eyes and surged forward with the extra speed granted her by the relic of Oichi.

Swinging her katana at where one ninja's arms was expected to be, Kumori ran toward Buru. She hoped to impair the enemy quickly while getting over to save her ally. The less capable both of the attackers were to fight, the easier it would be to dispatch them. However if Buru fell then Kumori would be alone against four assailants. Too much of a disadvantage to make up for with cunning.

Not that she even knew who Buru was, having never met before. Regardless too many had already fallen today and the Oda ward was not about to allow anyone else to die near her if she could help it. Her whole mind and spirit were devoted to the battle raging around them, the carnage and death only at the periphery of her awareness. Time would come later to bury the dead and pray for them; she couldn't do either of those things if she didn't survive this battle.

(OOC: Activated Ability 1, granting Kumori 20% speed bonus)

The Welsh Rabbits were far away, such a shame. Bu thought as she fought and deflected thrown attacks. She wished she'd had her gang with her, people she knew she could not just rely on but knew intimately. They could probably form a whirlwind circle of death that even these punk ninja couldn't penetrate. On the other hand, they might have been killed just like these other students. Sure, it was always a threat on the mean streets, but it was hard to think about. It actually made her just a little bit angry. Bu clenched her jaw and slapped the metal chain against the ground, once, twice, three times.

But then came the shouts, the thumps, the gurgle, and the sudden loss of one enemy ninja. Well, that certainly evened the odds somewhat. Four on two were not the worst odds she'd gone up against. "You're a bit late to the party, doncha know." She called out to the other girl. Out of the corner of her eye she saw the ninja pull out some round things and throw them. She'd expected smoke so Bu took a deep breath, but she was wrong and the bursts of light left her seeing afterimages.

Well, if she was an ass going for the cheap shot, and she absolutely would be, she would attack right about now. So far they had seen her swinging it above her head and using it like a whip. Now Bu brought it low and started to run towards the new arrival. The whip hissed through the air and made a silver shield between her and at least one of the ninja. It wasn't solid and wouldn't stop a blade, but it would wrap around anything that passed through it and Bu could yank it away, be it a blade or, better yet, an arm.

With enough force in the opposite direction, she might even be able to dislocate the shoulder. Considering the chain was basically welded to her hand, it would come down to her strength and plus their strength and speed versus their shoulder socket. That was bound to be worth a scratch from the other ninja. But she really hoped that the moment she felt that one come in close she could drop and roll. Heck, with any luck, that would happen when she nabbed a ninja arm and it would put the shoulder socket up against a not insignificant mass of young lady.

Kurome gasped and her eyes widened as he stepped away just in time for his clothes to be torn, but nothing else. He was fast, almost too fast. Kurome frowned and narrowed her eyes, turning around to face him, while holding her staff behind her back with one hand, and one hand out in front of her in defense. She glared at him and noticed, briefly, his eyes were a wonderful shade of purple, the kind of purple she liked.

"Kurome, it really hurts you won't tell me. Would you really not? Could you really not tell me of all people?"

Huh? What was happening? His words were echoing in her mind and... sinking in? She slowly straightened her back and stood up, with a lost expression on her face. It felt like, he was... familiar? An old friend. It seemed so normal and natural, of course. Why wouldn't she tell him? What was so wrong with that?

"Well, uh..." She stammered, something inside was fighting with her mind, her inner soul. It felt... wrong. Everything felt right, but it felt wrong. Kurome stood there with her inner turmoil and held her staff by her side. as they stared at each other through their masks, their eyes purple, Kurome struggled to find herself. Would she tell him? Would she not?

As she stood there struggling to find the truth, yelling was heard in the distance from another fight. For some reason, this snapped Kurome out of her funk. She narrowed her eyes and shook her head, breaking her gaze from his gaze. The princess was important, she was relying on Kurome to defeat the fox masked man!

"No! I will not tell you!" She growled, then ran forward and attempted to stab him like a snake would with her double bladed staff, aiming for his organs, any vital part. She knew he was quick, and was probably expecting this move. So, at the last minute, she ducked and attempted to slide under him, hoping her blade, raised high, would slash his.....sensitive areas.

((Last turn was activated ability two, so this is cooldown turn 2/3?)

Kumori had taken down one ninja, but the other one she slashed had quickly moved away. Of the two attacking Bu, neither advanced towards her chain challenge. Instead all three remaining ninja pulled out kusarigama and began to spin them. The three kusarigama had holes in the metal bit holding the blade, and as they spun made a terrible screaming noise like shrieking death coming for the two students. For most people it would terrify them, at least that is what it was meant to do. The three ninja tried to gather as much force as possible before throwing the Kusarigama at Kumori and Bu. Two scythe blades would quickly fly at Bu's chain whip shield and one at Kumori's throat.

------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile Kurome had her own problem. The ninja leader's spell was starting to sink in, much to his delight. However as she was about to tell him the sound of distant fighting broke the spell and Kurome instead went on the offensive. Rather than looking shocked or upset the enemy ninja looked more offended than anything else.

"I'll find her myself after I kill you then." his voice held the air of a noble who had just been laughed at by a peasant. It was clear that the person behind the mask was male. How dare she, someone who clearly wasn't even a full ninja, attempt to fight him on equal footing. It was sickening on every level and he wouldn't stand for it. As Kurome aimed at his vitals the mysterious ninja used his straight edge sword to prepare to parry one stab while trying to kick the other away, only to have Kurome feint both attacks and slide under him while aiming up. Even he seemed shocked by the move as he quickly jumped up.

As he moved Kurome's suddenly strike would hit solid armor under his black robes, cracking and striking his thigh. His jump away from her seemed unbalanced and off for a moment as silver pieces of armor fell from his robes onto the ground. Kurome wouldn't come away unscathed however. Her weapon, and her hands wouldn't stop shaking. When the blade had hit the metal it had caused a strange vibration that for a moment would make her feel as though she wanted to vomit. The armor the ninja had on was clearly defensive and reactive to being hit, but wasn't meant to take slashes more than it was meant to take stabbing attacks.

The eyes behind the fox mask seemed to hold even more disgust for the girl. In the distance the loud whistling like death made the enemy ninja's eyes narrow a bit at Kurome.
"More Bugei students are about to die. I will call off my ninja if you tell me the location of the girl. Other wise," and with that he stretched out his hand towards Kumori and Bu.

-----------------------------------------------------

Kumori and Bu would see it out of the corner of their eyes. A large fire ball suddenly shot towards them from the distance. The caster, a fox masked ninja dressed in all black, seemed to not even be looking at them as he shot it, but the attack would be aimed more towards Kumori than Bu. The fire ball was slow moving but large, and easily hot enough to melt away steel.

-----------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile as Osore continued to pray he would feel the ground shake a bit, and hear his cell phone screen snap a bit. It was clearly an omen from the on high, and not of anything good. In the distance he would hear a sound like whistling death, and a crow squawking. All of which meant that the danger in Edo was becoming far worse far quicker than anyone would be ready for.

Just as the ninja relied on psychology and intimidation, so too did a warrior girl of the Oda clan. All of the lessons she'd been given on battle since being adopted into the restored clan were paying off now. No longer was she simply a girl who would fight only when she was forced to. Experience had taught her that the world could be cruel and unforgiving when times got tough. She would survive battle if she herself were tough. As soon as she had taken down one ninja she began to mentally prepare her next attack.

With her remaining assailant retreating to join his brethren, Kumori knew another trick must be at hand. Try as she might to hear any conversation that may be going on, her ears were still ringing a bit. As the ninja began spinning their weapons she decided on her plan of attack. Once they launched their weapons she crouched, intending to lunge toward one of the enemies.

That is until the rather large fireball became readily apparent out of the corner of her eye. No real time to plan anything, so she would have to just roll with it instead. Knowing she wouldn't necessarily be able to take a full hit from the fireball, even with her relic's ability to keep her standing with damage, Kumori leaped as far as her legs could propel her. Getting away from where she'd been standing would limit the effect the fireball had. After that? She'd have to figure out where to go from there later.

As she dove, she called out to Bu, "Get down!"

God, more of the boring ninja stuff. Why couldn't they come in close for a real and proper fight. Bu was tempted to just charge them. But it was only fair, if she had her spinning toy they were allowed theirs and theirs even made noise. It was a horrific screeching sound and it sent shivers down Bu's spine. Those things seemed to shriek the sound of death. But Bu's spinning chain never faltered and as the ninja threw their toys she was easily able to dodge as the chain batted them out from their trajectory.
Weapons of terror were really ineffective at being actual weapons it seemed. Bu smiled and slapped the chain into the ground again. Perhaps it was time that she whipped these cowards into shape. But that would not come to pass, it seemed. The ninja had moved away and there was good reason. A light at the corner of her eye gave Bu pause and she tried to see it without taking her eyes off the ninja and what she saw was a horrifying ball of fire coming at her. That wasn't fair at all.

Her new teammate jumped to one side but that wouldn't be enough to escape the entirety of the blaze. Well, Bu had a split second to make her decision and it really was no choice at all. In this situation there was only one thing to do. She let go of the chain and sent it twirling off towards the ninja. It would do her no good now. She covered the distance to where her partner was diving in a few long strides as she let her long jacket slide from her shoulders. Neither of them would catch the full extent of the fire but maybe she could shield her partner, the competent fighter from the rest of it.

Bu grabbed the shoulders as the jacket slid past her hand and raised it high. Stone grew from her fingers and spread down her wrists, down her arms, and all the way it latched onto the edges of the coat. Her arms held it taut and she bowed her head. Stone erupted from the earth and spiraled its way up her legs, encasing her legs like a statue being draw up from the earth. Up and up all the way to her thighs. She closed her eyes as the heat overwhelmed her.

A few months ago, Bu had been at one of the lowest periods in her life. She had taken her revenge, she was lifted from the weight, she was leader of the Rabbits, but nothing felt right any more. Bu was not one for introspection but she'd been doing it a lot. Then that damn policeman showed up and dragged her into the station. He'd talked with her and she'd talked at him. Under the jacket, under the stone, under the glove, was the result of that talk. A burn scarred into the palm of her hand with the shape and outline of a coin. A reminder of what the cost of the truth and the cost of lying.

She'd walked away from him that day but he didn't forget her and never let her forget him. He'd pulled her in to this crazy war at this crazy school. She'd had to give up her freedom. She'd given up her bike. She'd given up the Rabbits. She'd given up on avoiding punishment for her crime. The burning coin was the start and this overwhelming fire was the continuing punishment. And for the first time since she'd pulled the trigger, Bu was honest to god, no reservations, happy.

The coat was thick leather, designed to outlast and protect from the nastiest spills at high speeds on asphalt. But it burned like the skin it was, leaving a horrid stench in the air. The heat singed hair from her face even around the shield of leather. It burned up all the air so she couldn't breath even if she wanted to, which was for the best so it wouldn't roast her lungs. She felt the fire slightly warming her legs through the thick layer of rock. Halfway to eternity, her coat tore, cinders turning to ash as it burned away. But then the fire was gone.

Bu might have collapsed then, if the stone around her thighs wasn't holding her up. But she did keel forward with her arms dangling toward the ground. Her skin was red and pink where it had been exposed, the skin where the stone ended on her arms was a grisly raw red color. The ends of her long hair were smoldering and her shirt was falling off her leaving only a smoking sarashi beneath. The stone itself that held her up and encased her arms, was charred black and it made popping sounds as it reacted to the cooler air now rushing to fill the void.

Osore's monotone mantra recital was interrupted by a very subtle noise of plastic cracking and a slight shake of the room, enough to rattle the incense holders positioned around him. As the rattle of the wood faded he listened to the few distant sounding yet ominous sounds that echoed through the room and nearby corridors.

It was a haunting sign, but he wasn't sure how to interpret it. Was it a sign of worse things to come? If it was, was it a bad omen for all of Japan, or for just the empire? The only thing he could think of is that the fighting had to stop until he had time to investigate the strange omens. He tried to stand, but found his legs were asleep. He grabbed his cane that was nearby and used it to stand himself up, and he quickly hobbled out the door as fast as he could.

As Osore made his way to the entrance of the castle, the sounds of fighting grew louder. Such suffering and death was just obscene and terrible to him. He opened the door of the castle and walked out shouting, "Stop! Stop this senseless violence!" He wandered out into the unknown, prepared to die if it was to be. "The Gods are distraught over the killing and death! Stop before it's too late!" He continued shouting and waving his staff around, trying to rally everyone to the side of the Gods.

As Kurome finished her very cool sliding move (that she was proud of herself for performing, to be honest,) she noticed that her move had managed to nick off some of his armor. He had a weak spot now, between his legs. (Well duh, don't all men?) He seemed unbalanced after that attack, however, Kurome could not use this time for a counter as her hands were too busy vibrating from the attack, so hard that she almost threw up. The armor seemed cursed by some magic that would cause intense vibration, enough to stop a weaker enemy, but not her. However, she noticed that the armor seemed weaker against slashing attacks rather than stabs. She kept that in the back of her head while she stood in a defensive position as he spoke.

"More Bugei students are about to die. I will call off my ninja if you tell me the location of the girl. Other wise.."

He hadn't even gave her a chance to even consider the offer, more or less open her mouth, before he shot out a large fireball directly towards the group fighting the ninja in the distance. She could see from their movements, and flashes of their armor, that they were, in fact, Buegi students. Kurome gasped as she watched the fireball move quickly through the air towards the students. There was nothing she could do to stop it, as her ability of transporting things through the shadows was already used up and recharging.

However, as quick as the fireball was, one of the students was quicker. It appeared that she had turned herself into some sort of leather, or stone? But it was not enough. Kurome cried "NO" outloud while the fire engulfed the student and breezed by her, charring her skin and burning the flesh, as stony as it was. Kurome growled and turned back to the fox masked man. "You WILL pay for this!" She growled, and leaped forward, beginning her assault.

The girl striked as quickly as she could and as many times as she could, moving very little in order to expand her energy, but moving just enough to try to get a few cuts in while dodging his attacks. It was a move that he may have been familiar with, as all ninja were. The move was designed for quick small cuts, in order to make one bleed out without realizing it. She was hoping to change it, however, by adding more slashing attacks, rather than stabbing attacks.

Kurome had no time to be driven by anger, as that would mean her death. So while she quickly dodged and danced around him, and attempted to make small cuts between his armor or any opening he had, (especially his newly formed weak point), she made sure to remain calm and keep her thoughts clear.

MUSIC IS HERE!

The fireball slammed into Bu and Kumori. The fireball itself wasn't meant to last long, but instead be an extremely intense suddenly flame. As Bu blocked the attack her jacket and skin took most of the damage as only Kumori's lower right leg and upper left shoulder would end up being burnt. As Bu nearly passed out and the smell of destroyed hair and flesh filled the air the three ninja saw their chance. All three quickly dashed forward, sickles in hand. They no longer needed to play safe. Now was the time to kill these two and then to murder Kurome as well.

--------------------------------------------

Meanwhile The enemy leader seemed rather pleased. The terms and condtions had been made clear. Either Kurome would hand the girl over or everyone would die. As the offer was made Kurome loudly rejected and began a new assault. As she did so she would notice a small capsule pop out of the left arm of the suit that smelled heavily of ozone. Likely it had been the fuel for the large fireball launched at her fellow students. Whether another was in the outfit's right arm or not she wouldn't be able to tell.

As Kurome began a beautiful dance of death around her target the enemy ninja moved with her, parrying and slashing as she did the same. One by one small cuts would appear on kurome's body as more and more small pieces of cloth and silver armor fell at their feet. Her small attacks made the effects of the vibrating armor less rough on her body since the armor seemed to vibrate more and cause more stress the harder she launched her attacks. Even as her hands trembled a bit and her head felt dizzier she continued the dance of death with the enemy shinobi until finally a hard kick to the ground put a large distance between them.
"I see. This vibrating armor wont do much good against you now that you've figured it out will it?"

In front of Kurome's eyes the enemy leader began to suddenly take off all of the silver plated armor that had been hidden under the black robes. Beneath the armor and robes a clearly male figure was revealed. The remaining outfit was a sleek ninja suit similar to one used by the Hattori elite. However the coloring seemed slight more tan and green. It would be the same color of outfit the fox masked ninjas in the woods had on. Stretching a bit he looked at her carefully.
"That gimmick armor was heavy anyway. Now prepare to die." and with that his speed seemed significantly quicker as he approached her and attempted to cut both her right arm and her weapon in half.

-----------------------------------------

As the shinobi kept fighting with the bugei students Osore made his way to the field of battle, drawn by the loud sounds of combat and ill omens he had received. Even though he couldn't see he still shouted for peace, however the sounds of war rang far louder than his voice. He would be able to smell the burning city, hear the sounds of blood and armor hitting the ground, and sense the shakes from cannon fire in different parts of the city. As the sounds of fighting filled his ears he would received a vision from the gods.

In the vision a man with a tan and green outfit and fox mask watched as an entire city burned. Many of the corpses seemed to match how Osore imagined his fellow bugei students looking. Even though he couldn't see behind the mask Osore would be able to tell how pleased the man felt with himself. As the man turned to leave his image would get smaller but his movements more clear, and then suddenly the image would walk off into the distance, guiding Osore to see that one of the two figures fighting in the distance was clearly that man.

Even in the darkness of Osore's vision the man's movements seemed clear. The bad omens may have been towards the fall of Edo, but may also have been a warning for the enemy directly in front of him.
