Such a hectic day..
It was a day spent getting adjusted to the dorm she was to live in now, a process which took much longer as she'd lose focus frequently due to the diversity of people on campus. Curious eyes would find themselves on clusters of strangers, wondering why and how they came to be so. Her ears would catch snippets of passerby's conversations. Mostly, they were silly things. Things like favorite dishes, complaints about one's partner or parents. The latter seeming like a trivial thing that Kokuro was just now starting to attempt to understand. Each person had their own conflicts in their personal lives. It was incredibly interesting, but also a tad overwhelming.
After mostly getting settled into her dormitory and an over examination of the campus map, Kokuro ultimately found herself in the library. Libraries were one of her favorite places to be as they were a powerhouse of information of all kinds. Never had she seen one quite as vast and holding of intricate information as this one, however. Caught up in the majesty of it all, the girl was sat on the floor in one of the many aisles, back pressed against the cool stone wall for support. On the floor before her lay the campus map, folded neatly. A worn, light blue rucksack lay leaned against her tiny form, unzipped. A faded pink cloth was spread on the ground with at least five of the library's books stacked ontop of it. Glancing at the titles, three were related to past events in Japanese politics, one was something along the lines of knife fighting for amateurs, and lastly a copy of a child's tale, Hanasakajiji, sat atop the pile. In her lap was another book, Musui's Story.
However, what had captured her interest most was the book she held open gently, eyes reading almost feverishly across the page. The Sea and Poison by Shūsaku Endō. "Oh wow," her soft voice spoke barely above a whisper as she moved to holding the book with one hand. Slender fingers of her free hand ran through her messy, faded locks. This was a book she had been wanting to read for quite a while, but never took the time to find as it was more of a want rather than a need when it came to her academics. Kokuro pushed the pair of lens-less glasses up the bridge of her nose as she focused more intently on the words singing from the page.
Her mind was absent when it came to the people on the outside. Some occasionally came into the aisle she was sitting in to stare a moment before awkwardly grabbing the text they were looking for. Others seemed to pass without noticing her. She was quiet as a mouse and her overall naturally worn appearance ultimately dulled against the beauty of the library. It wasn't as if she were purposefully being a wallflower, but the temptations of a good book were simply too much to handle and she just had to make camp in this section at once to read just a little bit of the book she'd longed to read for so long. Little to her knowledge, over half an hour had passed since her original sit down.
Once again, she'd unknowingly found herself captive by a good book.
HAIR: What is typically very light, almost white blonde natural hair is dyed an unintentionally faded periwinkle / pastel blue color (hair does not hold color well) and cropped short. Her haircut also seems a bit choppy and uneven in places, definitely the work of an inexperienced self-cut somewhat perfected throughout the years.
EYES: A light crimson, almost pink color.
BODY TYPE: Extremely fair skin hugs her slender form. She has a very small frame and with the history of illnesses throughout her childhood, her body overall has a frail appearance.
STYLE: The school uniform is probably the nicest article of clothing Kokuro owns. Her style outside of the uniform is what most would call old fashioned. The fabrics of most of her garments are faded and sometimes even showing obvious signs of wear and tear. (ie. little holes or loose strings) Whatever clothing she wears typically covers her whole body. She gravitates towards her long sleeve shirts and vintage, over the knee and covering the shoulders loose dresses. She has little to no sense of fashion and only seems to wear the clothes given to her by both male and female members of her family.
OTHER: She occasionally wears an old pair of glasses without lenses.
Kokuro is an odd type. Having grown up with quiet, hard working parents and her sweet grandmother, the art of socialization is actually fairly new to her still even at the age she is now. At least, when it's outside of a learning environment. Things like public speaking a rehearsed paper, giving a presentation, or anything to do with talking and class comes easy, of course. It's the spontaneity of a casual conversation that changes things. When asked questions or her opinion on things, she often times responds with how she actually feels with little to no filter whatsoever. Though mostly, she keeps to herself. Everything about her behavior and outward appearance is pretty bland as such, she is easily overlooked or forgotten. This fact doesn't seem to bother her in the slightest, though when actually noticed she tends to get a little over excited. Having always focused on her studies before all else, she's an incredibly dedicated person and always has a mind for reaching her goals. However when it comes to things requiring charisma, she's incredibly awkward. Knowing this fact, she gets embarrassed easily by her own actions quite frequently.

Overall, while she is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to her schoolwork, her interactions and way of carrying herself leaves something to be desired. Her personality and interest in studying people is something she actively works on and sets self goals for.
STRENGTHS: Intelligence & Quick Learning - Kokuro loves to learn new things and strengthen her mind as well as practice knowledge she already has. She catches on to most lessons very quickly and has an uncanny memory when it comes to recollecting coursework or the like.

Hide In Plain Sight - Being an overall bland person, Kokuro more often than not flies under the radar. She walks on very light feet and speaks so little, blending in with a crowd or even just the background is quite easy and often done unintentionally. It took a whole year before anyone in her previous school mentioned anything about her dying her hair for the first time.

WEAKNESSES: Socially Awkward & Gullible - Because Kokuro doesn't have very much experience in constant communication with people outside of her family, her actions and/or words are somewhat awkward or strange at times. Being spoken to or noticed in a casual environment is exciting for her, so she can be a bit gullible to the things people say during that time. Her kindness is sometimes easily taken advantage of.

Terrible Immune System- Kokuro has a history of being very ill on multiple occasions as a child with many near death experiences just from being sick. As a teen, her illnesses are less severe but she tends to get sick quite easily with things like colds and the like. As such, illnesses when she is home are treated as severe until proven otherwise by the family doctor hired specifically for her.

LIKES: Learning, studying people and their behaviors, food, and bad jokes.
DISLIKES: Physical exertion, shopping, pranks, and unnecessary violence.
AMBITIONS: To be someone who can gather important information for the greater good.
WEAPON: A kukri found and handed down by her great great grandfather, while it has very little use to Kokuro, she takes very good care of the weapon. It is always in pristine condition.
Kokuro was born and raised in the city of Izushi within the Tajima province and has always put her education before all else, some would say even more so than the typical child in a community known for its education. Growing up as an only child in a home with hard working parents who were rarely around, she was mostly raised by her grandmother. The fact that her parents have little to no contact with her while living in the same home has never bothered her because their hard work contributed towards her education. Her education would one day contribute toward their relaxation, or that was the plan anyway. When not in school, rather than spend time building and maintaining friendships, Kokuro continued her studies. She would move on chapters ahead of the given material and ultimately, it helped her excel in her classes. Due to her taking ill frequently, her parents even hired a teacher from the school she attended to come to their home and teach the sickly girl. Kokuro was never behind on her work due to illness.

As she grew older, her grandmother began to show concern for her. Kokuro had communicated very seldomly, sometimes not even at all unless she was spoken to first. Even when Kokuro wasn't ill at home, she seldomly left the house and always seemed to have her nose in a book. Not even normal books that young girls read, but things like history books and combat training tips. The second one was even more baffling considering Kokuro's constant frail state and her lack of exercise. This was also around the time her parents were talking about Edo Bugei. Finding this as good a time as ever, Hisoka brought up her concerns to Kokuro in a way that she knew would get her attention. Logically. Kokuro is centered around intelligence, she wants to know and educate others for the greater good. She wants to help her country in the best way she knows how, which is gathering knowledge. However, to do that, some degree of speaking and being around others is involved. After years of simply just existing for her own purpose and meshing in with the background, basically her whole life, Kokuro came to the realization she was missing an important corner piece to the nearly finished jigsaw puzzle that was her future. Or at least, as she saw it.

Though it may have seemed silly to most, especially to her parents who were the ultimate masters of empty small talk with Kokuro, Hisoka practiced communication with the girl. Communication that didn't involve lessons or rehearsed speech. The type of communication that one would have idly with a cashier at a supermarket or even with someone familiar just passing by in the street. She spent her time giving Kokuro a reason to want to communicate with others and in practice, it actually worked. Kokuro found a new interest, people could be studied and read like books if spoken to properly. Or at least, that's kinda how it worked in her mind. Every person was a well of information, but there were certain people who were treasure troves. People like political figures, business owners even had quite a bit to give. More than one would expect.

Now, Kokuro is setting off to Edo Bugei thanks to her clan and beyond excellent scholarly achievements in hopes of honing more skills to be the person she wants to be. Someone who can gather information beneficial to others, to a country even. Someone people want to listen to and learn from. Someone who will make the Hosokawa Clan proud.
