"If I had to guess, I think they accidentally lost a few secrets to the Ikko before the invasion and needed some super fast teams to get out and do some retrieval fast. That's why they sent us. They might have known about the shrine and the sword for ages and were just going to hide it from everybody but then the big bad monks found out." Kire's idea was grave indeed. Though wasn't without merit. It was true that the Shogunate had lost some ground against the Ikko, and the Ikko generals seemed to know a lot about how the Shogunate functioned. Rumored had gone around shortly after the war that some high ranking samurai had been Ikko plants from the beginning, which made the idea even more unsettling. Fortunately, as the Prince of the Azai, Nobuyori was able to safely say his family remained samurai loyal to the people of Japan.

"It is rough to think about. Though I'm still glad we didn't encounter a full group of Ikko. Fighting in that cave then trying to get out before drowning feels like it would have been impossible." he said bluntly, looking around at the trees and sky. He definitely prefered this scenery over that dark, spider filled cave. No doubt Kire did as well. It was rough, and even now he still thought about the pain from the murky salt water they had to dive through in order to even get the sword and tablet. If given the choice he'd almost rather cut off an arm than repeat that again any time soon.

Fortunately neither boy had to linger on the thoughts for too long. Calls and texts started going around the group. Apparently they had spent enough time in the bridge area and a bus was coming to take them into Kaga proper. At the news Nobuyori's face darkened a bit. Last time he had been in Kaga, was even worse than the battle against the Ikko in Edo. Kaga had been the place where he watched an entire army of monks blow themselves up just in hopes of killing as many samurai and citizens as possible. The entire battlefield had become a blood soaked hell and even thinking about it made him tense. Though around him was no sign of conflict, and he was with friends. He knew the Ikko wouldn't be appearing, but even so, it was a mental trauma that was hard to erase. Before that day, he hadn't understood just how insane the Ikko army was. Now he knew all too well. With photos taken of everyone and the call to get on the bus he looked towards the down, a small tear running down his face that he hoped Kire wouldn't ask about as he quickly wiped it away and got on the bus with everything, moving towards Kaga.

The countryside had no signs of the war. It was beautiful, and everything looked scenic like back home in his beloved Omi. It brought a smile to the Prince's face as he looked at everyone's happy faces, and especially how lovely Suishoku was as their tour guide. If she could look at her home and not be upset, then their was no reason he couldn't either right? As they got off the bus he looked at the city. No signs of the war where left on the city Either. Something that made his soul feel lighter as he moved ahead with the rest of the group.

*********************************************

As Yumiko and Eriko discussed poetry Eriko suggested looking at the bridge. With a large smile Yumiko nodded.
"The bridge isn't that old. It is fairly recent, thus it's purple color. It has quickly become popular though!" she said cheerfully as she admired it in the morning light. With that the two girls went to admire the bridge as Yumiko's phone vibrated. It was a cute message from Suishoku. Apparently the bus was on it's way. With a smile Yumiko turned to Eriko.
"We should take pictures, and join the others when we are done."

With that the rest of the time at the bridge would be spent getting pictures of everyone and waiting with Suishoku for the bus to arrive. Looking around Yumiko felt happy. A peaceful morning, with people she knew and trusted, and no sign of the Ikko around. This was the Kaga she held in her heart, and the Kaga she wanted to show the other. Especially those like Nobuyori that had fought to defend her home town. When the bus arrived she helped everyone get on the bus. Sitting near Eriko she smiled and handed her a book
"These are some poems i've been working on. Please, enjoy them." it was a book Yumiko hadn't shown anyone yet, and it was special to her. It was a book of poems all about Edo's scenery in the spring.

As the bus went on and eventually got to Kaga Yumiko got out and smiled. She knew they likely wouldn't run into her parents, two nobles living in a fairly isolated part of town. However, she was still happy to be home. She breathed in the familiar air of her adopted homeland and looked around. She looked at Suishoku with bright, cheerful eyes. She knew full well that Suishoku would likely feel the same way she did. After all, they had finally come back home, and it was peaceful.
"Welcome to our home of Kaga everyone! The most beautiful city in Japan!" she knew the others would probably laugh at that, but that was part of the Japanese mindset. So a person from any domain, their home town was the most beautiful city in Japan. No doubt any of the students would have said the same had the group gone to their homes instead.

"O-okay, if you say they are.. I'm just not used to this many guys around," the nervous Todo replied, taking a seat on the end of the same bench the tour guide sat on.

Taking it easy? That was by far easier said than done when you were incognito in the same area as people who knew your usual identity. 'Mikoto' still had their nerves on edge a bit despite the assurances from Suishoku about the guys. Not like they could just outright say why the guys posed a potential danger to them. This must have been how a noble in exile.. or maybe a spy.. must have felt when hiding out under an assumed name. Any moment someone might recognize the face through the disguise and call out their other name. In that moment the whole thing would be ruined. Best to avoid that if at all possible - and that might be more difficult since they were all coming back together.

It wasn't very long before everyone was gathered back together to continue the tour proper. For the most part 'Mikoto' continued to quietly follow along with everyone else without attracting too much attention. Yet the scenery unfolding around them proved to be a much more welcome relief than simple words of reassurance. Agata was a fairly urban place, and Edo was the most modern city in all of Japan - seeing sights like these definitely was a rare treat. Everything about this part of the country just felt more relaxed in pace and mood. As the farmlands passed by and even the more spaced out buildings reappeared, 'Mikoto' was well and truly in a better mood. Those nerves hadn't stood a chance against the combined forces of a nice cup of tea and some wondrous scenery.

That is, until they realized that they were around different people after the transition to the train. Moving from one place to another had been so instinctive that such things had gone beyond notice. Now, though, it was obvious that something had gone dreadfully wrong from that careful plan 'Mikoto' had attempted to piece together. For there was a boy not that far away, just behind where they ended up standing. As Suishoku and Yumiko spoke, a chill ran down their spine as they dared glance over their shoulder. A shock of dyed blonde hair confirmed the worst possible scenario.

"The.. Azai prince.." 'Mikoto gasped, blushing a bit and shuffling a couple of steps back so maybe they wouldn't immediately be noticed.

------

Eriko, meanwhile, was having quite a lovely time now that she had someone to speak to. As they moved to the train she found herself occupied with Yumiko's book of poetry. A selection of poems she may not have shown others before - certainly unpublished. She'd happily taken pictures with the poet girl before letting her run off to undertake her tour guide duties. Was this the beginning of a friendship? The Yamana heiress certainly could speculate on the manner and hope that it was the case. It would be nice to have that as a result of going on this trip.

As they entered their next destination she smiled in understanding as Yumiko introduced it as the most beautiful place in Japan. Especially among those from rural areas, your hometown always seemed like the most beautiful city or locale in the nation. The air was just a little bit cleaner, the grass a little bit greener and the food just a little tastier. Perhaps it was simply a mental trick, but she felt much the same way about Inaba. For now, she intended to follow the local girl's lead - someone from this city must certainly know the best spots to see!

Kai's eye twitched at the sound of Roshi's snicker. His eyes narrowed slightly. Obviously his pride was wounded and Kai was like a wolf with his tail between his legs. He sat up and adjusted his shirt and cleared his throat. However, Roshi seemed to take his advice to heart and that made Kai feel a bit better. He relaxed a little and let a small smile out. "Regardless of what happens, you'll make a great husband someday. You're an honorable man."

With that he looked over toward Suishoku and the group, She seemed to be trying to gather people up. "We should head over." He said looking at Roshi before moving to the group. She wanted to take photos. He settled himself in the group for the shots and stood straight and tall. He put on a small smile for the camera. He wanted this to be a good day for everyone after al. Suishoku had gone through so much trying to get this trip organized.

The pictures were nice and being surrounded by people who were genuinely happy. It was such a change of pace that it honestly caught him off guard a bit. Sadly, it seemed like it was time to say goodbye to the lovely rest stop and as sad as that made Kai he was actually eager to see what was next. He walked up to Yumiko and Suishoku. "You've planned a lovely day. I'm very glad I came." He said with a soft smile.

THe bus ride was pretty standard, but it was relaxing to watches the scenery go by. Japan was a lovely place all things considered and with the war over the country felt so quiet. The silence soon gave way to the City of Kaga. Kai was rather jealous of the place, the lack of crowds was one thing the assassin would enjoy immensely.

Kai stepped off the bus and looked around at the beautiful city and smiled a little. He took a deep breath. The air felt a lot clear than Edo's. The Hitokiri felt more alive here. Actually... this had been his first vacation in a long time, well there was his injury, but this one he enjoyed. "Tis, much more linerating that the Edo crowds.."

Now, it was Roshi's turn to be taken off-guard when Kai mentioned him to be good husband material for some lucky lady. True, the artist had eyes for Suishoku, but what the young warrior had done was basically call him a stud. That got Roshi right in the feels, man, big goofy grin and all.

"Yeah, so what am I worried about? I should be completely fine!"

With the statement that they should reconvene with the rest of the group, Roshi stood up with an over-the-top salute and a "Very good, sir!", getting back into the spirit of things. This was suppose to be a happy occasion, after all. They were celebrating their victory and everything else. He made an effort to be in just about every group picture with a grandiose pose, and was taking pictures of the countryside as the bus took them along.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Meanwhile, on a later train bound for Kaga...

...Player Two has joined in, as well.

She sat sat in silence, listening to music from her phone and watching the scenery pass by, keeping her mind off of things for the time being. Though her injuries were no longer severe, she was asked to change bandages regularly for a while, yet, and try to stay off of her feet for extended periods of time. This was their recommendation after she had refused to stay down and instead defend the hospital she'd been in when the Ikko Ikki were attacking.

There'd been no danger to her from the so-called monks - Each strike while she was still recovering from everything she'd endured from the earthquake was potentially lethal, with her power - but the exercise had set back her recovery to a degree. Muscles screaming, nerves on fire - Makoto hadn't cared at the time, but right now it was damn inconvenient...and there was an itch under the bandages she couldn't get to.

You might ask yourself, what was she doing here alone, her legs still somewhat weak and walking a bit of a chore? The answer was simple: It was time to officially register her name to that of the Maeda Clan, Scion of Maeda Toshiie, just as agreed. Her relic - her Yari - was right beside her, wrapped up so as to keep anyone from worrying. The Clan people had promised to meet her there at the station with a car. Good thing... She was gonna need it.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Back with the group, the bus had reached Kaga proper. The place was made of serious beauty, so naturally the artist was taking pictures. He wanted to use this as inspiration for painting scenery later. As Yumiko bid them welcome, proclaiming it's beauty, Roshi spoke out.

"A true masterpiece,
This blessed place of respite,
A home among homes."

He gave Suishoku and Yumiko a bow. He was genuinely entranced by the sight of this place. He was getting so many ideas here, like covering an entire building in mural painted in the memories of the town and surrounding countryside.

Going over the welcome pleasantries and pride, Suishoku nodded in approval that they found the city more at eased than Edo. The population was mostly the citizens and the castle town residents so there weren’t many other clan dignitaries and trade. Streets were wider mostly for carting goods and also felt wider from lack of crowds. Now that everyone has gone through the base entry of Kanezawa, Suishoku cleared her throught to reveal what she had in mind.

“Now that we’re here, there will be some detours but the city has come along. There might be a few homes missing since we don’t exactly have the mass funding to rebuild as quickly as Edo but folks here get the job done. That being side, however, we will be stopping by the Maeda castle briefly. Yumiko’s lives closer in the area to handle a few pointers.”

She then walked away from the group to get her directional bearings and pointed south east from where the station faced.

“This way is the castle. The station here hides it a little but we’ll be able to spot it over some neighborhoods. There isn’t full guarantee we’ll have an audience with Lord Maeda but we’ll see how it goes,” she spoke lightly of their unoffical second father figure of the province. Hopefully he isn’t in a wily mood most Maeda bloodline tends to have from time to time.

“After we visit the castle as it’s local garden parks, I plan to have us visit a rental kimono shop for a boat tour. We’ll take the river due south of the castle andt back into the main commerce where we’ll have our lunch and shopping. I hope everyone has a bit of allowance but if someone is short, I’ll help out.”

There was promise in that as Suishoku made sure to bring extra spending cash on herself. The girl tapped her chest confidently and turned to Yumiko. “I hope you don’t mind that we’ll be heading near your folks place. I’m still not heavily familiar of the castle area the closer we get if that’s okay woth you handling that portion.”

Having laid out the surface goals of the trip, Suishoku waited for anything Yumiko wanted to say and as well as the others before signaling that their walk to the castle had begun. The walk from here to the castle will be light in both traffic and distance so there’s breathing room after the bus and train ride. What she didn’t mention was how Kanezawa was closer to the Osaka of sweets. The Kaga area took extra care in crafting confection snacks and teas, but most snacks, that it’s a rivalry in art to make beautiful and creative treats. Sea food is also on the raise in terms of snow crab dishes. Accessories and goods were in the fad work and play versatility in textiles designs ranging commonly in seashells, gold, silver and gold flecks accenting virtually any product.

The bus ride was hardly the most interesting thing. There was more scenery to see, more of the country, more proof that nature was pretty good at surviving disasters too. But Kire wasn't interested in taking a nature walk for fun. At best, it might be a good chance to relax and get some shut eye. Still, it also sounded like this trip would have a lot of the same aspects of classic school trips, including the obtrusive scheduling. He'd have to figure out some way to make that go in his favor.

Seeing the Maeda castle sounded like political busywork, but maybe he could see some of their old weaonry. Proper relics that weren't magic, just well made swords and armor that had lasted the ages. Probably wouldn't be allowed to take them apart though. As for the river tour, maybe he could fake a stomach bug or something to get left behind. Water was cold and miserable and the last thing he needed was more of this trip reminding him of the damn sword mission. What he needed was something to take his mind off of the past.

The best he could do, unfortunately, was just browse the shops as they passed. Window shopping, but with less interest and less shopping. Occasionally he'd see a shop with metalwork in the Windows but it was so very standard when it wasn't unnecessarily gaudy. That was kind of a harsh judgment from somebody who named his blades and experimented all the time, but while fancy weapons made a point, most of these seemed more like decorations on a wall than anything of real use.

Maybe he'd go inside and have a better look around later. Perhaps they could impress or even inspire him. He had to admit, most of his dislike came from the abundance of gold. Gold was an easy way to make something flashy and expensive, but you weren't going to get much use out of it except if you were courting some scion. He'd been told it was a key aspect in making weaponry that could help them channel their abilities, but he'd never bothered to try. After all, he had no use for it and none of them had asked..

Nobuyori hadn't even noticed someone looking at him. His mind was elsewhere. In his mind he still couldn't completely forget about how hard they had fought to protect Kaga, nor how different it looked now. As Yumiko and Suishoku introduced them to Kaga he could feel himself gradually relax.

Getting out and entering Kanazawa Nobuyori found it strange that Kire hadn't talked much. Perhaps like him Kire had a lot on his mind. Though the boy had always been the quiet type, at least in the Prince's experience. After Roshi telling the girls had great they did at introducing the area Suishoku mapped out the plan for the trip. Last time he had been here the Prince really didn't get to see much of the city since he had been whisked away to the Maeda clan's castle, and was stationed outside during the fight.
"It will be nice to actually see the castle and city without war." he said quietly to himself.

"The plan sounds lovely." he said to Suishoku and Yumiko with a smile. The group was mostly together, but currently he felt focused on Suishoku and Kire, as well as how the city was recovering. He barely even noticed the Todo girl in their midst. Though likely if she approached him he would remember she was their.

************************************************

Yumiko blushed a bit at Roshi's haiku. It was lovely, and of course the small girl always loved poetry. Looking at the city around them she gladly took in the familiar air of the town. This was where she and Suishoku had both grown up. To her this town was everything. Turning around to try and talk with the others and tell them more about the city she began to think about just how many of the students had actually come along and how focused on her all of them happened to be. She wanted to tell them all about the city, but where could she start? How do you explain the most important place in the world to you, to others, and do it justice?

Fortunately for her, at this point, Suishoku took the lead. She mapped out the plan for exploring the city and Yumiko nodded along in agreement. In her head she mentally thanked her Senpai. Yumiko really wanted everyone to see her city and wanted to have this trip happen. Unfortunately, she just wasn't sure how to begin. She wanted to tell them about poetry and the history of the city, but the group had come for a tour, and plenty of time for that would come later. For now she let Suishoku take the lead and followed, seeing the beautiful Maeda clan castle in the distance. Much like Nobuyori she was curious to see how much the city had recovered from the battle during the war with the Ikko. Though she heard from her parents that for the most part it was like the city was never in a battle at all at this point.
"I hope you all will enjoy the beauty of Lord Maeda's home!" she said cheerfully as the group walked, able to clearly see the large castle in the distance.

Luck had smiled on the Todo student once again, as the Azai heir didn't notice them lurking nearby. Added to that the tour guides of their group had a plan in place that did sound enjoyable. That was in the back of the Todo heir's mind, though, with the Azai prince so close by. Avoiding his notice had seemed like an important course of action to avoid embarrassment or a very awkward trip. Standing so close by without saying anything didn't seem proper or polite, though, but.. what did you do in this kind of situation? Out of their depth, they turned to friends in their mind to try and find an example. Only one stood out - Junko. Junko probably would have been able to give some advice on this kind of situation, but Junko was back in Edo.

Maybe the best thing to do was to ask what Junko might do in an awkward situation like this. Maybe be sociable - the feminine Junko would have been confident enough to make small talk with people. It was getting hard not to say something when the Azai heir was commenting on things which provoked similar reflection from them. They'd been through so much in the past year that had been incredibly trying and challenging.. it was nice to have this chance to relax. So against earlier judgement, the Todo student decided they had to try and participate a little more.

"It is nice, isn't it?" they mused, loud enough that anyone around could hear. Then they quickly changed the subject out of nervousness, "The plan sounds very nice too.. we're going to rent kimono before the boat tour? I.. haven't worn one in a while. I look forward to it."

There was a slight blush as they realized how bland and generic that sounded. Well, better to not make a total fool of themselves or out themselves entirely. Right?

----

Eriko wasn't aware of the particular troubles which had occurred in Kaga before the trip up here. She had heard there were troubles all around the country which Edo Bugei students had needed to respond to, of course. When you were an Elite those rumors and reports were often close at hand. As the plan for the next few steps was revealed she realized that she'd need to be in more formal mode than originally planned. Visiting a clan castle might not have been meant in that way, but she wasn't just any student. She was not only the future leader of the Yamana clan, but also possibly a shogunate princess by marriage in the future. A proper bearing was mandatory in her mind.

She once again turned to the poet girl for any indication of what the visit would entail. Probably nothing more than taking in the sights of the Maeda castle grounds. The Maeda lord was almost certainly going to be tending to more pressing matters than a group of students on holiday. However she couldn't be totally sure that this would be the case, and some kind of representative of the clan from the castle may still be present. Eriko needed a better idea of what awaited them there, other than a potential audience, so she decided inquiring further was the best choice.

"How likely is it that we might see the lord at least in passing?" she asked of the poet girl, trying to hide the nervousness she felt as a result of her thoughts, "I guess I need to get used to meeting important people, but it's still kind of new for me."

The tour continued and Roshi noted, with some dismay, that Kaga did not get the same attention to rebuilding that you could expect in Edo. Granted, Edo was Edo, but Kaga was the center of the Maeda Clan, which - as you know - was quite strong a clan to be in. How many Maeda Scions were there right now? It was a shame that such a beautiful city had financial troubles, resource problems, and so on. Roshi was part of the rebuild effort, personally. He remembered the fires of Edo, not to mention the earthwuake aftermath. He couldn't stand the sight of it in that state.

Their tour was going to take them through the finer points of the city, however. Roshi practically wanted to put his camera on automatic and cartwheel down a street to gain a kaleidoscope of color. There was uhhh...some mention of needing some spending money when they reached a particular point. Borrow some cash? Yes, that was Roshi, probably. He got whatever he did by working for it, so leftovers didn't always happen in great quantity. One of the others remarked on the wearing of kimono and not having done so in a while.

"I can't say that I've really done so much, myself. I'll have to borrow a bit, for my part. Heh heh..."

For now, though, he was enjoying the sight of Lord Maeda's castle.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The train stopped. Time to get off. Makoto carefully brought herself to her feet, using her covered yari to keep herself steady. She would limp her way over to one of the exits, no rush. She just had to keep on her feet...and remember not to accidentally hit anyone. Her passive power with this thing allowed her attacks to increase in proportion with the harm her body has taken. Still on the injured list, that basically meant that she could clock someone out-cold without trying too hard right now. Making her way out onto the train platform, she started looking for an official vehicle.
