You know, they said that you could tell a lot about a person by knowing where they'd been before. Where they were going and where they'd already gone often said a lot about the type of person they were and the type of person that they wanted to be.

So it probably said a lot that Miyuki had passed this hallway before.

Five times.

She stopped, sighing as she looked around desperately. She was going to be late and she'd even woken up early to prevent something like this from happening! It was simple really, all she had to do was make it through her own little tour of the building and everything would be good. But no! She had to go and get herself lost, wandering the halls aimlessly without any clue as to where she was going!

Why? Why did they have to make the building so large and hard to navigate? She'd never been inside of a building so fancy and elaborate before without some sort of guide or escort to take her to where she needed to go. This was like a nightmare, one of those ones where you ran as fast as you could but never seemed to actually be traveling in any direction.

It sucked and that was all she could really say about it.

She slumped against the wall, sighing sadly as she looked around. She was looking for the room her lessons would usually be held in. Lessons such as history, language and mathematics. Things a commoner such as herself usually wouldn't get the chance to be taught by the higher class of the country. It was all very surreal, honestly. It was still sinking in just how privileged she was to even have the chance to get lost in the halls of such a building.

She was still lost though.

"Where is it, where is it?" She turned in a complete circle, before sighing and falling to her knees in frustration. She'd have to lose face and ask for help, it seemed.

How dreadful.

"Is anybody around? I seriously need help figuring out where I am." She called out, the hallways fairly empty. It stood to reason that many students would be in classes, but hopefully some would have the time to help her?

Matsu hadn't been in these hallways in a long time. He thought the changes made to them since the Great Kanto Earthquake as just perfect. As such, he sauntered through the hallways to relieve himself of the past, passing-by many students, who in turn bowed their head to him. To which he bows in return and smile in the direction of the students he walked pass. It was clear who he was: Scion of the Honda; who is also part of the Tokugawa, as signified by the Platinum Honda and Tokugawa clan crests emblazoned on his uniform.

Unlike many of the blue-blood in the school, Matsushina isn't a show-off, he naturally commands the respect of those around him--partly because of exploits and achievements as well as his background, whether he likes it or not, much to his own chagrin. Because he isn't really the best person to deal with people in a social manner; for his social understanding is off from the norm. And, he can be pretty awkward in social situations. Unfortunate for him.

Just ahead he overheard someone, he didn't recognize this particular voice. It's not as if he's familiar with every student in the school, but he has seen many faces and heard many different voices due his time spent in the school over the year. Who could this person be? He moved over quickly towards the source of the voice and sighted a girl who just slumped against the wall. He suddenly worry for her well-being, because she appeared distraught.

"Why does this seems like a deja-vu. " He thought to himself.

"No matter," he would quickly approach the girl who fell on her knees, perhaps out of frustration. "I think she might be lost, from how she is behaving... I could be wrong however." He would wave his hand behind the girl who is now on the floor, extending his hand outward in her direction. His lips formed a warm, heartfelt smile.

"Excuse me, who might you be? And, why are you troubled?"

He extended his hand with the thought of helping her up in mind.

The tone of his voice is soft and soothing. Albeit, he looks pretty confused as to why would she be here at this time, his expression is exactly like that of a child trying to read the map. He's just glad he is around and able to find this person in the nick of time. Fortunately, for both of them, he no class to attend at the moment

She glanced up, seeing a hand being thrust into her view. Curious, her eyes traveled across the visage of the stranger that had offered her their hand to use to help herself stand up. Who on earth was this stranger that had decided to show her some sort of kindness? Maybe they were another commoner like herself that had gotten into Bugei by being a scion? That'd be nice, to find somebody else like herself here. Prove that she wasn't alone in being so out of her element. She was a merchant's daughter, not a samurai.

A glance at her savior revealed that, no, they were not in fact a commoner, if the Honda and Tokugawa clan crests were anything to go by. In fact, the girl that had come to her aid was practically the opposite of a commoner if she was wearing the crests with any sort of legitimacy. She couldn't take the hand of a girl so far above her own station!

She scrambled to her feet without taking the offered hand, bowing deeply at the waist. Dear god, she hoped she hadn't offended somebody so far above her. She wasn't even wearing the Date clan crest, she probably appeared as the commoner that she was.

"A-ah! I'm so sorry! Please forgive me!" It wasn't exactly pleading, but the request was very clearly spoken with some slight desperation. This was what she'd wanted to avoid. Now she'd looked weak and stupid in front of somebody clearly important. "My name is Shirafune Miyuki, miss."

She coughed, cautiously rising out of her bow. She was so glad that her father had given her a few etiquette lessons, having had to deal with higher status customers before. "I-I found myself lost. The halls of this place are so big, I've never been inside of a building this grand before."

"I see...She is a" Matsushina heaved a sigh and shook his head; pushing the thought away, as he watched the girl stand up by herself. At least he wasn't offering his help in vain, she regained her senses somewhat. He chuckled lightly. "I'm a boy, despite how I look". He realized the girl might have been over-thinking "station, status and position". He glanced at her to get a better look of her, pitying her in a way, but at the same time he wants to reassure her. That, especially with him, anything concerning social status is not a problem in any way.

"It's okay, miss. You've done nothing wrong at all for me to forgive. " He nodded his head in approval of her etiquette, she is polite and well-mannered - but awkward like him; her upbringing must have been very good he thought. "What a nice name, as for me, my name is Honda Matsushina. You may call me Matsu, if you want to".

He made another glance in her direction as she mentioned "getting lost". He laughed this time: "Don't worry about that, Shirafune-san. I have gotten lost as well; on my first day here. It isn't really a big deal after all."

He walked passed her and looked outside of the hallways window.

"Come, follow me, I will show you the way and around the first floor. "

She grit her teeth behind her lips, hearing the sigh that the girl...or uh, boy, had let out. To her, the sigh was heavy and dissapointed. She'd upset this person already and even got he-his gender wrong. Gosh, it was going to be so hard to think of somebody so pretty and feminine as a boy and not a girl! She let out a shaky breath to try and rein in her her nerves, a fist clenching and unclenching at her side. What a disaster today was already.

"I am so sorry, Honda-sama." She bowed again. Even if he'd said to call him Matsu, there was no way she could refer to somebody so closely after only just meeting them. It was times like this that she wished she'd taken the Date name, or taken to wearing the Date clan crest with her at all times. That would at least give her a little social standing, right?

She hooked her hands together behind her back, blinking at his offer to show her around. Did that mean that he was a fellow first year student? Also, why was he wearing the Tokugawa crest as well as the Honda crest? Was he being supported by both clans? What sort of prodigious talent was he?

"I ah, I would be honored to follow you, Honda-sama! Please lead the way!" She supposed she shouldn't look upon an act of kindness in suspicion. The boy seemed genuinely interested in helping and being kind. Would he have been as kind had she been wearing the Date crest? Would he have been nicer? It was hard to say, really, but she liked to think that he was possibly always as kind.

"I-if you don't mind the question, how long have you attended Bugei, Honda-sama?"

"As I said it's fine Shirafune-san". He got worried of her again, she seemed so out-of-place and deferential towards him. It almost made him uncomfortable, but he will try to accommodate for her to the best of his ability. It was his duty as a man after all, and a fellow Edo Bugei student. So, that she will be able to fit in Edo Bugei.

"I'm a first year student, what year are you in?" He was curious to know this from the start, but before he didn't have the chance to ask her. Now, he finally managed to speak up more. Hoping to help her feel more comfortable with him. It almost appears that she was looking and musing about why he has two crests adorned on his uniform - he finally noticed that it makes him really stand out - it can't be helped, most, if not all of his uniform have the tokugawa or honda crest fixed on them, he would look at her before continuing. Seeing a non-noble like her is refreshing.

"To answer the question you may or may not have, I'm a descendant of both clans, potential candidate for Tokugawa and heir of Honda. My parents were arranged to marry in good faith of the Honda Clan's fealty, time-honored familial tie and age-old marriage tradition with the Tokugawa, especially that of the Shogun's family line."

He smiled, "so, did that answer your question? About my pedigree".

Matsushina would turn around to face her.

"I believe I have been here for more than a year now, the exact time I don't really recall, since there's so many things that had happened. So, I would say, a year and give a few months. I think that's about right".

He turned back, but remained in the same place for a little while.

"Let's go then, Shirafune-san. The classes are near, you weren't exactly lost, you just didn't read the classes' signs"

He would point high up at the signs that indicates the different classes.

He was a first year just like her! That made her feel just a little bit better, because that meant that he probably could recall the times that he would get lost in the halls and wouldn't judge her too harshly for it. Of course, he might still be angry at her for getting his gender wrong, so she'd have to tread carefully when dealing with him for a while. Still, he seemed nice and friendly enough. He was still her better though, so she'd have to still refer to him as formally as she could.

"I-I am a first year student as well, Honda-sama."

And then he spoke up about his lineage and she suddenly felt very out of place again, gulping. He was the Honda clan's heir and a descendant of the Tokugawa clan too!? She shouldn't even be in the presence of somebody with such a strong and powerful bloodline, let alone being guided around a building such as this by him! She let out a sound that was halfway between a whimper and actually speaking, nodding her head rapidly at his story.

A clan heir? She was talking to a clan heir? Some people would give up so much for this opportunity! What was she supposed to say? Was she dressed too informally in her uniform?

And he was about a year her senior too! This just seemed to get worse and worse, especially as he started pointing out signs above the classrooms. Now she looked unintelligent too! What did she even say now? "S-so are you a scion too?" She asked finally, hands clasped behind her back. Gods she was so nervous.

"And, I see, so we're in the same year. It's nice to know that. " He hummed softly as he lead her along after pointing at the signs. "As you should know the first floor is meant for the first years, here, along the hallways, you will find every single one of your classes Shirafune-san". He nodded at his own good retention of the floor information, normally he isn't so informative, the complete opposite, he was usually so reserved and indifferent.

Pointing and walking pass a couple of classes before finally making a full stop. "Regarding what I told you just now. Don't fret, my lineage doesn't mean I should treat anyone else as below me. I'm quite unlike the other heirs, I don't particularly like the segregation and ill-treatment of non-nobles; I like to know more about lower caste people".

"And, to answer your question, yes I am a scion - are you perhaps a scion as well Shirafune-san?"

His expression, from cheerful, turned gloomy for a good minute.

But he was once again jovial. "Well, moving on then. "

He pointed at the stairs. His steps as he marched on airy and dainty.

"Here is the stair case that leads to the second floor, for the second year students, it's brand-new from the recent repair - if you know about the Kanto Earthquake that devastated nearly the entirety of Edo".

"All in all there is three floors, and at the very top is the roof, maybe I will take you there some time".

So all of the first year things were hosted on the first floor? That actually made a lot of sense, it was quite the simple, yet genius layout of rooms and lessons. Perhaps it wouldn't be so hard to find where she was going in the future, especially with such a tour happening now?

She did wonder why the heir to the Honda clan was so interested in the lower caste, considering his own social status and the type of lifestyle he probably lived. It didn't make sense to be interested in the people that had a lot less than you did, unless he liked to hand out charity to those less fortunate than himself? That would seem to be in keeping with his character, from what she had seen of him. He seemed like a kind person.

"Ah, yes I'm a scion. I only recently discovered it though." She smiled and nodded, noting the change in his expression with a huge notice to stay cautious. Apparently he didn't like talking about being a scion, or something about it unsettled him. "And it would be an honor to accompany you up there, Honda-sama."

She didn't say anything about the earthquake that had struck the region. There wasn't a whole lot she could say about it, in all honesty. She'd heard that it'd been a pretty bad thing and that lots of people had been hurt thanks to damages that it'd caused, but she didn't quite know the extent of how badly it had hit Bugei.

Matsushina bobbed his head from side to side, looking around he stopped in front of the staircase after explaining briefly about need-to-know, or rather, essential information about the floors. He looked at her.

"Now, do you have any question Shirafune-san? Before we move on to the second floor?"

"So, you recently became a scion. I hope you will be able to master it quickly, all the recent events that lead up to current conflict that will plunge the whole nation into war after so long. I really don't like it one bit, after the time of peace we managed to achieve. No matter, we, the Shogunate, will definitely vanquish them from our land".

His expression now filled with regret, but he's trying his best not to appear upset. Dismissing the negative thought he had in mind, he would beam a smile at her, in attempt to cheer himself up and lighten the mood.

"Now, let's go then. " Using hand gesture to say "move"

He would take to the steps, but before that he stopped again.

"Well then, thank you for your willingness in accompanying me Shirafune-san"

His gaze should probably meet hers, it was filled with compassion for her. Something about her made him want to try harder for everyone else, a rekindled sense of self, something he had lost in a previous event. His eyes, much to his surprise, welled up and almost in tears. He quickly wiped his face. "To the second floor we go".

Yuubae Suishoku rubbed her tired eyes after a lengthy medical lecture and exited the more tatami styled class room from the castle fashioned third floor. New years, new ranks, new homeroom. It was so different than what she was accustomed to for her second year and all that jumped the shark to land in the most questionable of places. She smoothed the skirt of her Elite uniform and rested her arm on her school duffle bag like a cast sling as she bowed to her instructor and headed out. It's hard not to hide being an Elite thanks to the drastic and slightly decorated version of uniform dress compared to the more simplistic pencil skirt style and doubled breasted blazer. They even added a patch for it to represent what clain the student hailed from or sponsored. Her sponsor was the Maeda, the country's westward half of the military. All this added to complications that were far too great to ignore that all Suishoku resorted to now was pretending the marks weren't there and pray no one brought it up. Futile efforts on her part.

For now, she took each day as they were and reason with herself that she's just a newbie of this position so their actual actives thus far has been akin to student council helpers of aiding in tours or general student day to day assistance during events. Today was going to be neither of those. From now and later were a few hours till doing her club activities for the day then head for the student dorms. Still so much to learn. It's all scientific names more than actual first response like before. Going to need so much studying just to keep up with those doctors and apothecaries. The girl scratched her head and started making her way to the stairs heading downward to the second floor.

Yuubae continued to rub some sleep from her eyes as she looked around for the second floor vending machine for some coffee milk. Her hand pulled back some of her sandal wood hair that has grown out a little and kept down, partly covering her ears. Upon sight of the vending machine she sought for, her pace quickened to gingerly stand before it for her adored coffee milk. "What could I ever do without you?~" She hummed softly and fished for her wallet to go purchase two cans.

Did she have any questions? No, not really. She knew all she needed to know, but there was something that was sort of bugging her about the way the school was laid out. First year and second year lessons were kept apart, third years too. Were they supposed to be segregated from people in different years for some sort of reason? Maybe so that they didn't cheat exams or teach each other things before the teachers did any teaching?

"Oh. The talk of war makes me really nervous." She admitted, shaking her head as the Honda heir talked about the potential of war and the fight against the enemies of the Shogunate. "I've never even seen combat before. I much prefer to heal than to actually cause people any harm." That probably gave away the nature of her abilities as a scion a little too easily, but that wasn't too bad, right?

She slowly clambered up the stairs after the boy, noting with immense confusion the fact that his eyes began to tear up, briefly wondering if she'd said something that would upset him. She didn't remember being rude or mentioning something that could affect somebody of his status in such an upsetting way.

"I chose the medic track so I can help people that are hurt. I'd say it's the only thing I'll be good at. Combat is difficult to come to terms with." She admitted. The weapon she'd chosen was one that could double as a tool designed to aid people. Even her weapon choice said more about her nature.

"Yeah, I am sorry to bring it up. But the potential of war is simply an unavoidable truth. I hope I didn't make you worry with that. " His voice almost sounding sorry. He continue to move up the stairs without flinching, despite his uneven emotional state. He's trying to stay keep a serene and cool image. It would be out-of-character to be upset.

But his head and figure is upright and high-up, he didn't want to bring himself down. And, he must stay calm as well as confident. These days his emotions has been rather erratic. More so than he would like it to be. Though, it's certainly something good, despite it being a new experience; outbursts of emotions, and his inability to control it.

He learn new things about himself every day.

"That's good, you're a kind girl, Shirafune-san. Your position and choice says that. In all of honesty, you're better off not seeing any bloody battles, just like I have. The atrocities; such sights are not for people to see".

"Don't worry about me, I merely had a nostalgia. Sorry, seeing you remind me of something: That I mustn't give up easily. I don't know why that is. However, I am glad, I feel like now my will is unyielding".

He looked at her and extended his hand in her direction, his fingers would form a thumbs up.

The gesture is done to show that he's fine and okay.

"Understandable, it's not easy to get a hang of combat. Even for me, I still think there's a lot for me to learn."

The coins clattered into the dispenser as the machine rolled out the equivalent of an elixir to her school life. She knelt down to pick up the two and unzip her bag in storing the items away. "How much does this leave me though," she muttered while looking at the rest of the funds that'll last her for the month. It didn't look all that great in terms of on hand spending as she plotted on converting some yen bills into coins to see if that would reduce the temptation. Despite the money problems though, the drinks certainly enlightened her mood and started making her way to the next flight of stairs.

She passed by the second floor class rooms. Her eyes flicked back and forth of each door and room number she passed. Each of these facilities all brand new but, for one particular room, her stroll slowed down to a gradual halt. The banner hanging above read class 2-C lecture room. The Elite exhaled softly then stepped back a bit to where she stood near the windows in case some student aid happened to pass by with paperwork. Her mind drifted back to what the room was and continued to be now. This would be the room the medical lectures had taken place. It was the mixed group that provided the general information for those following the Medical Track and help those who wished to advance further to the harder rooms on the third floor. Due to how the school encourages students to have their track selected prior to completing and advancing their second year.

The elite kept a tight lip and reached into her bag. She needed that elixir. The dark brown can popped open from its aluminum pull tab as she took a hard drink of the caffeinated milk. "Still hanging in there," Suishoku would utter to no one physically with her. A glance behind her and out the windows was some of the city skyline of Edo where patches of pink trees can be seen of the sakura slowly coming into blooming season. The held a few memories for her during first year and into the second. Both good and the bad. This was where she was during the earthquake.

It was nice of him to not want her to worry. It was reassuring to know that there were people in the upper caste as compassionate, kind and human as the boy in front of her. But at the end of the day, even those comforts were small in comparison to the knowledge that soon war would be upon them. It made her wonder if they'd send her out to fight, despite being a novice to combat, martial arts and swordmanship. It made her wonder if it was worth making any friends, knowing that there was a chance that they could be killed and snatched away from her soon.

"Even so...my focus is as a field medic." She admitted. Was it foolhardy to sign up for the role that would place her on the battlefield, when she could have just chosen to be a surgeon instead? "I want to be there on the field, keeping my friends alive and protecting them."

She didn't know what to say to the fact that she seemed to remind him of something. She supposed it was probably a compliment, so she blushed and waver one of her hands in front of her face, not really denying it. It was nice to be complimented by somebody so far ahead of her in the hierarchy.

They soon reached the top of the stairs, Miyuki looking around with wide, unbelieving eyes. The second floor was just as beautiful as the first floor. "A-are first years allowed up here? This floor is for second years, right?"
