"Pardon?" Her eyes asked as the cup lowered half empty for her posture to more accurately face him than when speaking into her cup or toward the line of bottles behind the counter than to face him any longer than she had to. Polite formalities of bearing to hear the voice of another and their own selfish words where even she didn't even need her training in the Infiltration track to turn invisible during it. Having a clan title to finally complete who Eiji is finally gave Mika something to view more fully of what this human had attachments to in this life.

She heard of the troubles of his clan and of a sibling he grew to resent along with a father who no longer showed favor. Mika watched his form face hers and she stared at him in examination. The parallels were there in many ways but her lips neither smiled nor frowned from how there were aspects that weren't like hers. Eiji here felt to rebel against his family and go against them because of their neglect. Judging by his drinking habits to the bottle may he have suffered this far longer than her terms. It would be a year now since what she thought to have lived for and had purpose for came falling apart with that earthquake which broke move than Edo's concrete.

"How unfortunate," she spoke in soft acknowledgement than pity. The robes around her were straightened again, not that they needed to, as Mika now felt slightly compelled to share a bit of what she harbored. "They treated you so yet saved you the burden of thinking there was purpose then proving those falsehoods." Mika wanted to become a clan adviser and make up for her naive brother's half. To ensure the Honda clan kept strong and need not suffer from traitors and the like who may use her brother's kindness and chivalry for their own ends. All her mind could think of now was how none of that got her anywhere. Neither closer to her family and even to be left behind in confusion and anger.

Silence came somewhere while being lost in thoughts that it left her stunned to be asked how she was or what he meant by holding up. Mika's head blinked then tilted slightly. The words were that foreign to her that even the people that dress her up and go out to these parties don't ever ask her in that manner beyond if she had free time.

"In, your terms of speaking," Mika attempted to keep herself from being over bearing though it's obvious her formal front wasn't holding up like before. Without going too heavily in details of what her childhood was to the things she specifically did, Mika attempted to keep them brief as though these too were of little importance. "I keep living from one day to the next. My body seems to want to continue this much. Looking for answers and none and sometimes...not wanting tomorrow."

"Just survivng huh? Yeah ive been at that point before sometimes its all you can do." Eiji said as he looked up to the cieling, his balloon still dangling from his back. "I also get not wanting tomorrow to come, believe me there are some days i think about where my life is headed, and what ive had to do to stay alive and i don't want crawl out of bed in the morning. Then i think about who might have to take my place in my next mission if i don't show up, so i force myself out of bed grab my things and head out." Eiji said as he started to smile he felt a little warmer inside as the whiskey started hitting him. "If you ever feel like its one of those days where you dont want tomorrow to come by all means give me and gramps a visit. Talking about it can help!" Eiji said with a big, warm smile " though i don't know if i can relate to every problem might have but i can sure as hell listen to ya, also that is a very pretty kimono you are wearing, didya pick it out your self? Also when you are not in school you in any clubs? How about any hobbies?" He asked genuinely. He wasn't sure how she might respond but he should at least try to get her to open up more

This was certainly strange and not what Mika had assumed it would go. It may have been the starvation of purpose and lack of general human sense. As a daughter of half the country’s military power was there a sort of requirement that she could not, can not, be weak. However, sheer strength wasn’t nature’s gift for her. A lot of such nutrients went to her twin making him the stronger candidate while her studies were confined to room lectures and the arts. The odd sympathy from him and similar circumstances did make the boy feel a touch of common ground than say another girl who made the matter difficult to listen to all together.

One thing that did stand out strangely ws his take on missions. Either some fear of someone else filling in made it confusing if he cared about the mission content or the person assigned to taking his place. Oddly considerate from a person who just polished off a bottle. Perhaps that bottle was what got him to speak in this manner. “I shall consider the invitation although there may not be many free moments to come this way.” She spoke of the curfew but really, Mika just happened upon this direction and place. Her sense of direction was rather poor when it comes to unfamiliar territories.

The effects of the alcohol started to show now that his speech started to slur a bit. He even asked about her clothes and hobbies. Topics like this would have been unheard of when first walking through the door. Finding his mood easier to swollow, Mika nodded some as the ink balloon had expired behind his back. Losing form and fading to the original drawing of washing smudges in his jacket. “Yes, I do own these and I have been contemplating on quitting several clubs for some time.” Her hobbies were photography and drawing but she didn’t feel like expressing these yet as both works were amature and childish respectively. “The material of your jacket and style suits you.” An attempt at a compliment was given despite drawing on his clothes. As much as Mika tried not to look too thrilled and shocked to hear someone have concern for her, there needed to be some level of fair trade. As for how fair things could go when the person across the bar is gradually undergoing the stages of drunken behavior, Mika began to worry just how exactly to deal with him on her own.

"Speaking of my jacket, what did you draw on it?" He said as he wiggled out of it turning it around to see the face she had drew on it, though it was a bit smudged it was still on there. "I take it you like to draw?" He said as he put his jacket back on. "Yeah its hardened leather, had it made that like that, way more comfortable to wear in a fight than armor, and it can stop a knife pretty well to." He said as he grabbed his bottle and leaned over the counter putting it on the floor behind the bar. "Im on campus a lot as well, just find me, not many people have a red jacket like mine, or even better.." he said as he pulled out his phone. "I can give you my number." As he said this he held out his phone. The screen came to life as his number displayed his phone, he had forgotten he had his embarrassing phone background, a group picture of his favorite adolescent show, the mighty transforming samurai rangers. He retracted his arm and started speaking again. "Yeah I'm on it all the time so ..... just text whenever......" His face turned a slight hue of red as he just realized she had probably seen his phone background. "So uh what do you like to draw?" He asked as he pretended she didn't see or question what she just saw.

Just what would she find him for? Mika's eyes wondered this and for now couldn't find an answer to that. It wasn't like with Kire where she could go to him about her knife or offer to take pictures of his swords for this counsel of craftsmen to be judged so what did Eiji have to offer? Her head nodded mutely to show that he is correct about her drawing but there was a twinge in her brow of mild frustration concerning drawing. Mika drew often and doodled but there wasn't much advancement in her artistic talents.

His adamant behavior to even share numbers was just too honest. His phone was held out to her even making her almost feel bad for considering declining. Her eyes shifted a little to her tea but what could she ever lose in this? The people in her clubs just use her to cover their drinks so far and, whenever the Honda clan ever does give her a call, the Honda's only ask if she's doing well in school still or whatever was she doing in her life for taking some petty mission here or how Kyoto was before catching word that the group is considered banned from the city. A more perfect target to get at the Honda clan was through her brother but Eiji didn't ask any of that. Unsure of where this could go at all with a dead-end person such as herself currently, Mika felt to see if there was anything to lose. Another traitor to wrong her would be a proper guess.

She left her bar stool again and approached him to look the phone over as the font was a bit too small to read from afar. Her own phone was taken out with just a picture of scarves hanging in the breeze to enter in her personal number. While doing this, her eyes widened a bit once obtaining the number to find a queer background in Eiji's phone. A ranger show like in those amusement parks and malls but these costumes weren't very familiar given the lack of children shows in sheltered clan lives or television not airing political news. Mika wouldn't be able to identify who these colored rangers exactly are. "I'll consider a time," Mika replied while standing next to him. With her hands held together before her lap, her thumb quickly tapped his number to send a brief but empty text. His phone would light up with a series of numbers and a randomly tapped (?) icon in it. This was her number.

"Nothing in particular to mention. I... let my pen wander." She stood about to his chest height as Eiji remained sitting in the bar stool. Speaking to him from across five chairs at the bar didn't seem like an action to continue so she moved to be this close and took a seat a stool away from him when feeling tired of standing. "That picture on your phone. Do you watch those at the mall?" Mika remembered a few shows like the people dressed on his phone happened to take place and wanted to know if that is what he does to have this picture at all. The last one she saw was about a womanizing overlord in tight leather pants though then these colorful soldiers.

" I uh ... yeah. Well not at the mall, it's a anime." He explained. Just when he couldnt sound even more like a dork he goes and out does himself.
Well if he had went this far he had might as well explain it to her. "Well basically they run around and fight supervillains each episode. Good animation and soundtrack, they are kinda like scions except more flashy. They also turn into robots sometimes. Dumb I know but it's fun to watch" he said as he looked up at the clock. Just about to hit ten o'clock. He looked back down at his phone and proceeded to reply to the message he had just gotten with a thumbs up. "I feel like an ass for saying, but I forgot what time Is curfew again?" He had long forgotten what time he was supposed to no longer be out, but he hardly felt like mika shared that sentiment and he didn't want to put her in hot water by keeping her out past curfew.

“So this is an anime as well,” her eyes looked interested that this was something on television and not strictly a live action. She was more familiar seeing the characters on stage that the girl held her chin in wonder if the cartoon held up. Eiji seemed to vouch on their behalf in consideration of detail. Her hand then lowered to follow his gaze to the nearest close, also to identify its location as he brought up the curfew.

“Unless there is a holiday beither of us are aware of, it would be ten,” she stated pointedly without much concern. A took at Eiji gave her the reasons to talk their walk through any questions about this meeting. All they had to do was carry on a bit calmly when explaining to the staff. That is, if any staff felt to provide a light interrogation of their truancy. “Do you intent on returning?” Mika asked with a slight cock of her head. This talk about other things has lightened up her mood to speak more frankly than with political restraint.

"Well not really, but you shouldn't have to walk back by your self." Eiji said as he looked back up at the clock. His head was abuzz in excuses to use should they get caught and questioned. He stood up and stretched his legs before turning back to the old man behind the bar. "I'll flip the open sign back to closed on my way out" Eiji said to the man, this was met with a small nod and the man retreating behind the counter, with the sound of stairs being climbed echoing in the back. Eiji walked over to the door and held it open for mika, locking the lock and flipping the sign on her way out. "We will have to stop somewhere so I can buy some cheap mints and cologne."

“I would not mind an escort in these late hours,” Mika agreed. She was more thankful to have a guide back to the school at all but didn’t want to let that on now of all times. She backed away, her tea ling finished and waited to see what would he do. The crass behavior seemed absent as though a different person as she bowed to the owner and exited the store with him. “A frequent haunt,” the girl continued to observe and note these odd things about him. His resentment then assisting her as a guilt exchange. Usually she could take this much in and more before the Edo earthquake but the Honda girl has since been reevaluating her surroundings as if more things were out to betray her.

She strolled behind Eiji as he stated their return trip needing a stop. “Whatever needs to be done,” Mika agreed as it’s too time consuming to wash that stench away. Hardly a complaint rose from her since leaving. “Consider a bath upon return,” she advised but knows it may be declined. First order of business was returning to the school after these mints of his. Mika followed him like this and putting up with the scent of whiskey around him to an extent. Her eyes often wandered the dark alleys and side streets though but with Eiji’s red jacket in view, he made for a near perfect guide.

"Yeah I am, i bought that place with some money I my family had put away for me when i was born, all it was doing was collecting interest. Plus his old landlord whom I bought it from was a real jackass. Apparently gramps has owned that place for forty years. He doesn't make a whole lot, but it's what he likes doing, besides he lets me drink there."
Eiji said as he strolled along walking back to the school. "Yeah, I'll take a bath in the morning, I'm feeling pretty buzzed right now and sitting in tub would sober me up." He said with a slight grin on his face. "Though I would appreciate it if you didn't tell any one about my bad habit. It really is some bullshit, I'm old enough to pick up a sword and die for my country but I can't drink." He said as he came up to a mini mart. He entered as the clerk greeted the both of them. He tilted his head back to address mika as he walked. "If you want a candy bar or soda get one If you want." He said as he picked out his cheap cologne and mints he had also picked out a cola and a bag of pretzels. He would walk up to the front and wait for mika before opening his wallet and buying all of the items.

“Bought?” She coughed at the idea that he actually owned that property in Edo. Typical matters of purchasing usually kept within ones largest influence. She didn’t, tried not to anyway, to press about it. The Shogunate may have just allowed it to pass since the location and purpose of business was a drinking outlet. Though knowing Eiji drank plenty of times before made her sigh into her kimono sleeves when feinting a yawn.

“When did you take up that hobby?” Mika asked while watching his back seay slightly. When he wasn’t lioking she motions her hands together in a brief prayer to the kami to have him pass out in his room. She wouldn’t have the strength to properly drag him back. “Not tell anyone? How rhetorical.” Mika pointed out with a scoff. Hardly anyone approached her for no more than her brother or being a drink ticket these days. To be asked about anything else was laughable in a bitter way. They soon entered a store and Eiji went to do his shopping. When telling her it was okay to grab a snack of some kind, Mika covered her mouth with a kimono sleeve to ponder this when her eyes just leered at him. I am not a child. Mika’s disappointing look started this before walking away to occupy herself at the magazine rack to read on recent events at the local malls than partake in candy on top of the tea. In it were scattered fashion trends and introduced new phone modles. Near the back was an event schedule of mall shows and tv listings with names similar to the ranger Eiji mentioned. This one was advertising defenders themed around Taoism with onmyoujin like powers and elements.

“I suppose this would do,” her hands closed the booklet and brought it to the register instead with his mints and cologne. “It seemed like worth the read.”

Eiji sprayed some of the cologne on himself before putting it in his front pocket. "Which hobby are you referring to? Because I've only bought land once." He said as he waited a moment to think it over. "Ohhhh, yeah no I started when I was thirteen." He then opened his bag of pretzels and began eating them. He hoped she wouldn't press forward on the matter, it was a young age to start something like that but he really did not like talking about it. He glanced back at the magazine she had gotten. "I think it's mostly reruns this week." He said as he looked over mika again. Something about her form, he couldnt imagine her on the battlefield.

They had walked for a while, and at last the school was in sight, though still a ten minute walk away they had found their way back, Eiji took this time to throw a few mints into his mouth before asking mika, " hey if we get stopped would you kindly do the talking? I have a knack for digging myself in a deeper hole when in a pinch"

A long look searched Eiji over of what a thirteen year old drinker would be. Boys grew fast later but he couldn’t have stayed far from who she saw before her. They exited with their purchases with the magazine in her hand while he nursed his hangover. His steps became less wobbly in their progress to the school while she tried to remember the way under the street lights they pased under. He commented on the tv guide on the magazine she picked up in them being reruns. Edo’s economic blow would encourage a few reruns and then some but this matter was brand new to Mika. To think he knew right away that this was already aired before had her raise a brow in his following of these shows. “So what is the most recent ones now, or to come?”

Their school was up the last hill with one last advisory from Eiji. “I have some words in mind,” she explained as he did his best to cover up signs of drinking. Given he was drinking at a younger age since then it’s doubtful how certain adults did not know, or the mentsuke know. They passed the gates with little incident and went for the dorms. One of the dorm teachers could be seen ushering a few strays into the building then laying eyes on the new pair.

“Out late again, Honda. Although odd to see you return with another student,” one of the two staffers for the men’s dorm handled the doors this time. Skeptical of the pair given one being a particular troublemaker. By appearances did it look like she dragged him back to the dorms. “Keeping this one in line?” He asked jokingly.

“He is actually my escort for the evening,” Mika corrected as fact. “Pray the other girls have made it back earlier than I.”

“I’ll have a word with the women’s dorm teacher if they have.”

Mika’s head bowed and ushered Eiji and herself into the main dorm lobby without another word as the men’s dorm teacher headed out to meet any more stragglers at the school gate. For now did they avoid one staff member.

"Well I think the most recent episode six hundred and fifty five." He said as he walked with her. He breathed a sigh of relief when she said she would handle the talking. He pulled out his sunglasses from his free pocket and put them on.
As they arrived on campus Eiji saw one of the dorm teachers, he appreciated Mika talking to him, but he started grinding his teeth when he labeled him a troublemaker, he wasn't wrong but it still pissed him off. As the pair walked into the main dorm. He turned to her and spoke. "Well then mika I think I'll head to my room, bullshit for a little while and get some sleep." He said as he rubbed one of his temples. "See you around mika." He said with a smile and a wave as he started making his way to the boys side

The production of the show was surprisingly lengthy despite the events. Mika looked at him genuinely surprised and considered researching a bit about how they amassed such a longevity when they arrived at the cross roads of their destinations. He gave a brief summary of what his intentions would be so she too nodded at this fashion and likely won't sleep just yet. "Very well. This evening has been most refreshing despite certain aspects prior," she spoke more of what issues that brought them to that location in the first place. "I do appreciate your time in being this evening's escort." With that to his farewell, she bowed deeply to that odd smile he gave. Did he really enjoy this?

Mika considered and pondered if that was true or not on her way to the dorm bath house to wash off some sweat and whatever else she picked up from her wanderings and the bar. The bar may not have been the biggest offender but the sharp scent of whiskey would keep her up. Before make her preparations of a nightly cleansing, Mika texted one last time before secluding herself to the baths then dorm room.

If not at your own inconvenience, would it be possible to provide direction to that establishment another day? The tea was most helpful and company.

When thinking about how the night went, it has been so long that there was any place else that wasn't her dorm room. If the trend of these continue then it wouldn't be too hard to slip away and hide out somewhere that's much more quieter. Now thinking on his small place a bit more, Mika came to a mild realization as she entered the empty bath. She didn't recall if she paid for the tea she ordered nor the name of said establishment.
