Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 06/01/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. Making friends and learning about Edo Culture is their current aim! In other news it is also time for the school dance event! Please bring your characters along!

The streets were lined with all kinds of shops; their wares presented with pride. Filled with the usual hustle and bustle of people buying and selling stuff, even the air had a special taste to it, a mix of products from all across the country. And to one particular girl those never before seen sights were a miracle itself.

Ever since she was born, Naomi has never seen a street market. Her family was hardly one to conduct grocery shopping: their retainers took care of such matters themselves. The life of luxury was a blissful one, but so was the ignorance.

“Naomi-sama,” said an aged old man, arching his back in a deep bow. He was wearing simple linen clothes, his head bald and his skin slightly tanned from all the days he spent in the sun. “It’s such a happy occasion for you to visit this old fool’s shop!”

His name was Saizo. For generations, this old man’s family worked for the Niwa, selling their wares and managing the shop located in the Edo. They were proud of this honour and carried themselves with pride. As for the Niwa themselves. To them, this establishment was profitable, but nothing more than that.

“It is as I see,” muttered Naomi under her breath as she passed through the place as if she owned it. In her case, though, she did own it. To be more precise, her family owned it. “In recent times, sales from this shop became less than a year before, didn’t they? My father and brothers may be more interested in tactics and strategies, but I have both time and desire to skim through the reports. Believe me, they don’t look so well.”

Not even looking at the distressed shop-keeper, she continued marching through the shop. Looking at the displayed products - fine tea lives, exotic spices and other things gained from other countries – she couldn’t quite contain her gasp. As Saizo fell on his knees, she plainly said.

“Please, don’t act so dramatic. While the situation might seem poor, I’m sure we can find a way to make some profits. What I have in mind, for now, is some quick restructuring.”

To anyone passing outside, loud outcry could be heard easily. A man’s voice filled with anguish and tears.

“I beg you, Naomi-sama! My family owned this place for centuries! Do not take it away from me! It’s all I have left! I beg you!” Inside the shop, an old man on his knees was crying his eyes out, clutching a young girl’s kimono, her gaze desolate of any mercy.

I'm interested in creating a character that does not belong to one of the clans but acts more like a personal attendant or even a retainer to someone else. That is to say, someone who isn't a personal assassin or something of sorts.

<br>HAIR: Naomi has dull black hair she keeps in a simple bob-cut.
<br>HEIGHT: 150 cm (4’11’’)
<br>BODY TYPE: 46 kg. (101 lbs)
<br>STYLE: Her choice of daily attire mainly consists of western clothes like blouses, pencil skirts and such. She prefers to wear the usual school uniform if she could help it.
<br>OTHER: She has dull, sleepy expression most of the time.

<div class="content3">
<p><i>"Listen and listen well! It's all about money, money and even more money! I don't want to say I appreciate money more than humans, but money never failed me so far!"</i></p>

<p>Naomi is all about profits, planning and planning her profits. Less of a tactician than her older brothers, she is more interested in the art of economics which makes her quite an oddity among her fellow clansmen. To her, numbers are more trustworthy than humans. No, rather than this, this girl simply finds all humans strange and thus, unreliable. It's akin to a wall she's created between herself and the rest of society. More than anything, she needs clear cut answers than can be provided only with equations and numbers.</p>

<p>As someone who is horrible outside of her chosen sphere, she is notable bad at expressing her emotions or doing even basics of acting. As such, when she gets mad, she barely raises her voice, and when she gets excited, her unemotional tone changes only slightly. That said, once she gets all worked up, she really gets "worked up." Not even bothering with regular niceties or basic prudence, she'll attack anyone brave or stupid enough to earn her wrath.</p>

<p>Since Naomi lived a sheltered life until her moving from her ancestral house, her experience in dealing with people that aren't a part of her family is non-existent. Of course, she can discuss economics just fine, but don't expect her to even attempt a small talk without any outside influence. Notably, she is very susceptible to flirting or any other form of romantic advances that may only exist in her head.</p>
<br>STRENGTHS: Her analytical mind and mental capabilities.
<br>WEAKNESSES: Complete inability to act and general grouchiness.
<br>LIKES: Money, sweets, exotic goods.
<br>DISLIKES: Unpredictability, losing money
<br>AMBITIONS: To bolster the status of her clan.

<div class="content3">
WEAPON: Her weapon of choice is a war fan. Originally, it was used to fend off thrown projectiles. Since it is made of solid steel but does not look like a proper weapon, it can be safely passed around and act as a makeshift club. Of course, Naomi mostly uses it to cool off her head during hot weather. As a third child, she didn't inherit any other instruments.

<div class="content3">
<br>• Father: Niwa Keisuke
<br>• Mother: Niwa Nene
<br>• Brother: Niwa Daisuke
<br>• Brother: Niwa Gorou<br>

<p>As the third child and the only daughter of the Niwa clan, Naomi was both deeply loved, pampered and not expected to do much. To her parents, simply being their sweet and loving girl was more than enough, while her brothers made it pretty clear they won't allow anything to trouble their younger sister. No matter how you look at it, her childhood was a happy one. Even the clan elders were happy to have someone they can marry off in the future to strengthen the bonds without someone else. There wasn't any reason for Naomi to ever be sad, so she never was.</p>

<p>Ever since her younger days, the girl was interested in numbers more than she was in people. In her eyes, all of them were strange, irrational creatures and no matter how hard she tried to rationalise it, the unconditional love her parents gave her was something she was unable to truly comprehend. "You're our precious child," they often said, but it was impossible for her to find anything precious about herself. No, as far as she saw, she was fairly average.</p>

<p>So, instead of thinking about this too much, she threw herself into the world of mathematics. To the Niwa, who prided themselves as skilled tacticians or politicians, such a vigour in studying was welcomed warmly. However, with time it became painfully clear her talents laid not in the battlefield, but outside of it. The things she liked the most were the image of profit rising daily and the usual look of the market near her family mansion. People gaining money. People giving money. This was a truly exciting image to her.</p>

<p>Of course, when she grew old enough to attend the Edo Bugei, she was sent there against her parents' wishes. Mainly, to find and seize potential "assets" by marrying someone in a position of great power, while trying to intermingle with other powerful scions.</p>

<div class="content3">
<br>HAIR: Pitch Black. It’s her natural color, common to her clan. Yu prefers to keep them at a comfortably short length, styling them with a hairpin with an artificial flower.
<br>EYES: Brown. Natural.
<br>HEIGHT: 150 cm. (4’11’’)
<br>WEIGHT: 46 kg. (101 lbs.)
<br>BODY TYPE: Yu has a slim, even fragile body without any noticeable muscles. She doesn’t like to move much without a solid reason.
<br>STYLE: Outside of the academy’s premises, Yu wears rather conservative clothes, and most of them are either western or have strong western influence in them. And yet, most of them are quite archaic, outdated even: corsets, cravats and dress shirts exclusively. In school, she wears a regular, neatly worn uniform. She uses reading glasses.
<br>OTHER: Yu has a small birthmark near her navel. (How indecent!)

<div class="content3">
Yu has a polite, generally friendly attitude and never raises her voice. It’s uncommon to see her emotional, as she looks either bored or sleepy most of the time. In her nature, this girl is a lazy individual that hates to do something she’s not interested in, but has surprisingly strong drive for those that she finds amusing: history, tea ceremonies, literature and antique books. In her own words, she is a person that lives only for her hobbies and would work only to support them, despite all odds.
However, behind her passive exterior lies quite a cunning mind; she has no qualms about playing dirty and won’t hesitate to lie for her benefit. It may be a good thing that Yu isn’t interested in such things as world domination, instead following her petty philosophy of living without regrets, following only one’s desires to the end.
That said, she is still a maiden at heart: she genuinely cherishes her friends and can get easily flustered because of her sheltered life before the enrollment. In fact, she’s never seen a man other than her fellow clansmen before. Thus, things like kissing, or even holding hands are deeply alien to her.

<br>STRENGTHS: Yu has a perfect poker face and above-average intelligence.
<br>WEAKNESSES: Physical Education. Also, her actual cooking skills are horrible.
<br>LIKES: Books, Funds, Rice Crackers, Udon.
<br>DISLIKES: Noise, Disorder, “Justice”, Natto.
<br>AMBITIONS: Yu wants to marry a rich husband and become a full-blown NEET.
<br>FEARS: Corporative Work. Also, heights.</div>

<div class="content3">

<br>RELIC: Iron War Fan.
<br>RELIC OWNER: Niwa Nagahide.
<br>OWNER HISTORY: Niwa Nagahide was a retainer to the Oda Clan and served the legendary Oda Nobunaga since the young age, partaking in many battles, such as the Battle of Nagashino. He also served as an effective governor, tasked with the creation one of the primary castles, Azuchi Castle. After the death of Oda Nobunaga, he gained the control over Echizen and Kaga Provinces. Nagahide died of an illness in 1895.
<br>ACTIVATED ABILITY 1: Yu can grant a slight buff either to herself or to one of her allies, removing their fatigue and sense of pain for three turns, but not the bodily wounds. It works as an anesthetics of sorts. Cooldown: One Turn.
<br>ACTIVATED ABILITY 2: It is a powerful, single-target de-buff that robs an enemy of their bloodlust, lowering their speed and defense for two turns. Cooldown: Three Turns.
<br>LOCKED ACTIVATED ABILITY 3: It is an ability that indiscriminately lockdowns any motions in a ten meters’ radius. However, as a drawback, even Yu cannot move inside this range. Active for two turns.
<br>PASSIVE 1: Her words of encouragement have greater effect on an allied target.
<br>LOCKED PASSIVE 2: She can use an absolute lie, but only on a single person and only one time each. It will be recognized by anyone who heard her speak.
<br>LOCKED Awakened Mode Color: Dark Blue.
<br> AWAKENED ATTACK: Yu can absorb any physical damage and reflect it into a random direction as a burst of kinetic energy.</div>

<div class="content3">
<br>• Father: Niwa Keisuke.
<br>• Mother: Niwa Nene.
<br>• Older Brother: OPEN.

Yu was spoiled by her parents since the young age because of her status as a first daughter they always wanted and, because of her position as the second child and female gender, she was never expected to serve as an heir to the clan, instead being pampered by retainers. Thus, she grew up to be a child that hated to work hard and always tried to find an easy way out of any situation.
And yet, much to her parents’ amazement, she turned out to be a prodigy of slacking off and procrastination, easily dodging her tutors by predicting their actions, preferring to read old books in the clan’s library or simply napping.
Her enrollment into the prestigious Edo Bugei wasn’t meet with much enthusiasm, or any other reaction, as Yu was already used to the fact that most of the choices in her life were already made for her. For her, it was another stepping stone to her ideal: a life where no hard existed. However, because her older brother "had no need for the relic" and "wanted to prove his worth with his own hands" she inherited the family heirloom, much to her dismay, as she planned to be as nondescript as possible.
