"Looks that way," Suishoku lamented as she took her remaining pellets to reload the game gun. To fail at this game of shooting was actually wounding her pride a little as an archer despite the rifle in her hand. Getting bested by a gimmick stall was like ten times the rival teasing from the artillery club in her mind. She sucked in a breath as she pitted away another pellet round into the gun and cocked it ready for another around. This wasn't so much about getting those masks anymore nor the rival game between her and Nobu.
A cool air passing through the fair grounds helped calm her head as she stood up and took another attempt at the red star. If she followed the philosophy of kyudou then, if she stayed calm, her arrow, pellet bullet in this case, would find its way to her target. Their shots have been getting closer so there was some positive in this. Only a few rounds left to try and one of these had to succeed.
Three shots left.
The muzzle of the rifle lowered as she watched the star zip about on its track. They've stared at this randomize path but it started to become a little clear on where the star had to make pivots since the star had yet to stop and back track on the same line. With that in mind, she raised the gun and took aim at the track she saw the star head down on. Tracing the path with her eyes, she paused and quietly pulled the trigger. The pellet zipped over the counter and hit the space just a moment before the star would pass by. The timing of the lowered fuse had that small window of latency but seeing where her previous shot was too slow and this one being a bit ahead, Suishoku now had a better idea on what the fire if she were to pin the star.
"Two shots miss," reminded the keeper.
"We're getting close. Maybe if we chased after each other's shots, we might be able to have one of us hit the center," she plotted out an idea just to have one of them win the masks. Although, it would be neat to have both their shots hit. If timed right, even with the small lag between the sound of the black powder going off and their pellet hitting the tarp, both shots could hit but the next person to fire would have to hit the star.
Either way, Suishoku smiled with some recovered confidence and took up arms staring down the rifle sights. Two shots left, four shots between them; this was bound to work! Her trigger finger waited till the star moved to another track similar to the previous one she shot at. The red star jerked upwards, spin in place then down a 45 degree angle. As it dipped for the next point, Suishoku lined up her shot at the intersection and fired again to signal for Nobu to take the follow up.
