Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 04/01/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. They have come to learn more about the state of Japan, the Shogunate, and it's Scions. We will be having a Lunar New Year's celebration, a school dance, and a combat tournament with them!

For some the Lunar New Year was a time for small gathering, a bit of prayer, tea, and focusing on one's self. Not at one of the massive temples in Northern Edo but a humble, smaller shrine in Western Edo. This was the type of place Hoshi had come too today. Western Edo was a fancy place mostly for Shogunate officials, the rich, the elderly, and other various nobles. However it also had small temples, tea houses, and a beautiful library.

Among the many sites in Western Edo, however, one stood out. It was a Chinese man in beautiful blue and gold clothing with a large gold peacock on the back of his sky blue jacket over a blue shirt. The man was Zihao Men, the inheritor of Cao Cao of Wei and one of the Chinese Scions that was currently staying at Edo Bugei. It was clear he hadn't noticed Hoshi yet but was more so just walking around the area. His arms crossed and a rather unpleasant look upon his face he seemed absolutely lost. It was also strange to see him without his female bodyguard. It was likely he had come to Western Edo to explore and was now unsure of how to return to the school, or any train station for that matter. After all, for the sake of beauty Western Edo had never been well marked. This was mostly due to the resident's fear that signs everywhere would disturb the beauty of the large mansion house districts.

It was late morning as crowed gathered at Edos' Northern Temple District to pray for the new year. Lots of people had come from office workers, to farmers, to students, to samurai alike. The area's monks seemed to usher people along to make sure no one lingered too long or anyone with a hang over caused an argument. After all even drunken people and those with diseases, as well as the homeless, had come to pray. It was the monk's jobs to make sure everyone got to give their wishes to the Gods.

Among the crowd was someone who caught the attention of quite a few people. A Chinese man dressed in fine robes had come to join in. He seemed familiar with the temple district and Edo and politely bowed to everyone. Anyone from Edo Bugei would quickly recognize him as the Head Teacher of the Chinese students that currently stayed on campus, Sun Yi Huang. The man had a very formal air about him. However, it was strange to see him by himself. It seemed since he had arrived in Edo it was Headmaster Hosokawa that had always been by his side. Though just like everyone else he had come in fine black and gold robes and nice glasses to pray for the new year, since he was too far away from his beloved homeland to pray at a Chinese temple.

The air current gathered and parted, swayed and broken by powerful slashes and stabbing movements from a halberd wielded with precision and grace. The small girl wielding it then quickly spun backwards, turned her body and the weapon around, and cut the air again. It was early, first thing in the morning on the Eve of the Lunar New Year and while that evening she would be seeing fireworks (though she didn't know it yet) for now she had woken up even before the dawn train with her weapon out in the field behind the school's main building.

She had on fairly loose clothing and was training hard. Her eyes seemed focused but her clothing made it seem like she hadn't done laundry in years. It wasn't so much that she chose to wear sweat pants and a hoodie in combat, but more so that due to Edo's seaside location and cold morning air she chose the outfit to keep herself warm at first. Later on she would probably lose it for the t-shirt and shorts underneath after the sun had risen, but for now, sweats.

The Headmaster of Edo Bugei looked deeply concerned. Over the past few months he had been going over various documents collected from the Ikko Ikki's attack on the city of Edo. This included student, Shogunate, and civilian reports. Out of all of them one report seemed particularly problematic. Sakuma, Eiji had apparently caused quite a lot of concern during his fight against the English speaking student. His death threats and absolute rage seemed also psychotic according to the reports the Headmaster had received.

It seemed that not only had the boy escaped with the scythe of the defeated Englishman, a possible relic, but also seemed to discord his persona he had taken on during the fight. It was as though the savage Eiji the headmaster had heard about was completely removed from the regular student. Regardless of how he looked at it, it was very troubling and he needed to speak with Eiji about the occurrence.

Thus, after school on a Thursday, a short message was sent to Eiji calling him to the Headmaster's office. The headmaster would be sitting in his office in a long, black ronin style outfit with beautiful white and red flowers on it as he waited for the boy to enter his large, well decorated office.

A war memorial stood in Edo. It was a memorial for all those that had died while fighting against the Ikko Ikki last year. One memorial had been made in every part of Edo and this memorial currently sat in the Central Edo park around the Shogun's castle. It was a beautiful amber stone equal in size to about seven men in the shape of a beautiful bird coming out of an egg. It was meant to symbolize Edo rising back up. Around the base of the egg, carved into beautiful white marble one could read the names of various townspeople, officials, and students that had lost their lives fighting the Ikko.

Two very unlikely people stood near one another looking at this memorial. One of them was Soujuro. A metsuke who worked in Western Edo. He had a young daughter he worked hard to put through school, and was often seen in dirt robes due to giving all of his money to her education. Due to most of this comrades parishing in the Earthquake and Ikko attacks the past two years had seen a rapid number of advancements up the Metsuke ranks for the still dirty looking samurai. Placing flowers in front of the memorial he said a prayer to Buddha and gave a deep bow to the names of his fallen comrades. The same ones that had always mocked him now felt missed, since he knew he would never see them again.

Behind him was one of the Chinese students and the inheritor of Xiahou Dun, Yiting. It was rare to see her away from her lord Zihao, but today the strong looking woman had come to see the famous memorial to the fallen and read their names. Back in China she was considered an upper class warrior and deep in her heart she respect others who gave their lives for their lords and their country. She thought while visiting Edo, the least she could do was visit various memorials. After all, word of the Edo Battle had quickly reached China's nobility and warriors alike. Some of them even jealous they could not fight off the Ikko terrorists themselves.
