Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 02/17/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. They have come to learn more about the state of Japan, the Shogunate, and it's Scions. We will be having a Lunar New Year's celebration, a school dance, and a combat tournament with them!

Hideyoshi stood in one of the Bugei's firing ranges with a frown on his face as he stared moodily at a wooden box that was laid out before him. He refused to even open the cursed thing just yet knowing what was awaiting him inside. After the events at the family shrine he realised that it might be useful to have a back up weapon that he could carry regularly with him, another sidearm to use for a variety of situations and to always have on him. It had also become quite apparent that his best bet at this stage was a firearm to make up for the range issues he had.

After all, carrying around his bow and arrows all the time wasn't exactly practical.

But still, he hated guns on principle, and the fact that all logic told him to get one was extremely frustrating for the young Tokugawa. Not to mention he didn't really know much about modern firearms, and which ones might be useful for him to carry. He had asked some of the Tokugawa retainers to gather up a selection of the weapons and deliver them here with the appropriate accessories and ammunition so he could pick something out that was... well, less distasteful. He doubted he'd find one that he legitimately liked, but Hideyoshi was a practical young man.

Now he just had to wait for his self-appointed 'tutor' in all things related to the loud and obnoxious.

Kitsu strolled into the firing range like a king. He had recently helped to quell a gang war and solidify his clan being brought back to life, at least in his eyes. He felt the need to practice his gunmanship and to see if he could find any new abilities with his pistol. As he entered, he noticed his new significant other standing in one of the lanes with a sour look. "What's wrong little bunny? That looks is usually reserved for when you see me," Kitsu called out.

As he approached he saw a small box. "Awwww, did Daddy buy you a peashooter or a slingshot?" He couldn't help but tease the smaller boy. He took a position at the neighboring firing lane and pulled out his own Tanegashima pistol and began to clean it carefully, pulling all of the parts off of the gun individually until he had a stock, barrel, and parts of the firing mechanism in front of him. He carefully checked the barrel and then cleaned it with a thick wad of cotton on a string. He sent the string down the barrel and puled the cotton wad through with the string. The cotton didn't have much on it, but was noticeably darker than when it went in. Black powder was pretty messy after all. Kitsu usually had the smell of it on him.

After cleaning his firing pan and all of the other bits and pieces, he assembled it all again, and prepared it to fire. He placed a flint onto the firing mechanism and cocked it back. Placing three small cloth wads into his gun's barrels, he slid the tamping rod out from below the three barrels. He pushed the wads down and tamped them roughly before sliding the tamping rod back into it's small hole. He aimed carefully at the paper target down range, and fired all three shots at once.

There was a pressure wave that felt like wind as soon as the projectiles left the barrel, making it obvious that his pistol was unusual. Both Kitsu and Hideyoshi's hair would be blown as if in a wind, and the red-headed Iga's clothing would be blown as if by a violent gust. Kitsu's whole body leaned backwards and his arm moved slightly with the recoil. The black .50 caliber rounds rocketed down field and struck the paper in a triangle pattern around three inches away from the bulls-eye, and Kitsu let out a 'tch' noise when he saw the results, and started to rotate his arm, stretching the muscles in his shoulder and bicep.

Hideyoshi shot Kitsu a look as it seemed the redhead couldn't help tease him almost reflexively. "Don't be an ass, you're making me regret asking for your assistance in this sort of thing," he stated with frown. He understood that the larger teen had a thing about how he was perceived by others, but they were currently alone on the range so there was no need for that sort of attitude in Hideyoshi's mind.

He folded his slim arms over his chest as Kitsu went through the motions of preparing and firing his monstrously large gun, the smell of gun smoke filling his nostrils as his hair was buffeted behind him by the pressure of the shot. The deafening bang left his ears ringing slightly, the frown on his face intensifying somewhat without turning into a full on pout.

"If you're done?" the small teen asked with a little bit of his old acerbic attitude leaking into his voice, a tone he generally didn't take with Kitsu anymore, but he really disliked firearms. "I don't know anything about these things, and you said you'd help me, or should I find one of my family's retainers?"

With that said he turned moodily to the box and unlatched it, throwing open the lid to reveal a number of different pistols laying in silk, the various accessories needed to fire them carefully packaged in a neat and ordered fashion. Each gun had a little label attached telling what model it was, all of them seemed American. A Cogswell Pepperbox, a Colt New Navy Revolver, an Old Model Remington, and a LeMat Revolver.

He sighed to himself, wondering just what he had gotten himself into this time. Was he really going to go through with this?

Kitsu looked at Hideyoshi. "I'm an ass sometimes. It's a thing." He would then look down at the guns in the box before pointing at each one one at a time, saying for each, "Crap, crap, garbage, garbage." He said it with a smile on his face, obviously teasing. "If you plan to use one of these in combat, you'll need one of two things, a world record reload speed, or preloaded ammunition." He would show Hideyoshi one of his own preloaded wads that held packing material, black powder, and a bullet.

He slid the capsules into the front of his three barrels and slid out the tamping rod, and tamping each one down once into their respective barrels. He then slid the rod back in place, put some black powder into the firing pan, and handed his gun to Hideyoshi. "I submit to you, using a single shot pistol with a fast reload, instead of these newfangled dohickies." The overclocked function wouldn't work if Hideyoshi decided to fire the gun since it was Kitsu's personal relic ability, but the gun would still pack a bit of a punch from having more black powder loaded into it than normal.

"Try and tone down the ass-itude with me then," the smaller boy grumbled, slender arms crossed over his chest as he stared at the redhead with a raised eyebrow. He had known what he was getting into when he had agreed to date Kitsu, but he had hoped to see more of the awkwardly shy boy than the pain in the backside version of his overly energetic boyfriend.

He watched impassively as the other teen belittled the weapons he had been given to test, the eyebrow never lowering from it's position raised above its' twin. "You do remember I'm not looking for a primary weapon, but a backup, right?" he commented after Kitsu had finished his little spiel, poking him in the chest pointedly, "I still intend to use my blades as my main weapons. The crappy garbage is just for insurance, in case I get kidnapped for example..." he trailed off with a pointed look.

"Are you asking me to handle your gun?" the dark haired youth inquired as he took the massive pistol that was offered to him, carefully inspecting it visually before pointing it down range with both hands gripping it as carefully as he could, before pulling the trigger with a slight grimace. The bullet hit the target, but it was fairly clear that Hideyoshi wasn't exactly a marksman with a gun, though his skill with a bow was quite good.

Perhaps it was just his distaste for firearms that made it so much harder for him to use them properly?

Kitsu wrapped his arms around the smaller frame of Hideyoshi and gripped the gun around the younger boy's hands, touching the gun and allowing the power of his relic to flow. The hammer locked back and powder and a bullet seemed to fill the gun from thin air. "Try it like this...take a stance closer to this...and hold your arms like this..." He moved Hideyoshi's arms and legs with his own arms and legs, before leaning in almost uncomfortable, or comfortably, close and whispering, "Then pull the trigger..."

Hands still tingling from the first attempt at firing the oversized gun, Hideyoshi frowned as he felt the larger boy press up against him and help adjust his grip, forcibly moving the Tokugawa's smaller frame into a different stance in a way that he might have protested had it been someone else... or had Kitsu done anything other than actually try and help him learn how to use a gun.

A shiver went down his spine at the whisper directly in his ear, and his finger clenched back reflexively, exploding with power as the bullet within slammed into the nearest target. With the change in stance, as well as the bracing provided by his boyfriend, the shot was closer to the center than he had gotten it previously.

"I don't think I'm made to use a weapon like this..." he said once the ringing in his ears ended, "it's a bit too large, too powerful, for what I need." He didn't move from where he was standing though, it was the perfect excuse for them to be closer than usual without him feeling the need to act all defensive about it.

Not that he'd admit that he liked being held like this or anything.

Kitsu took his pistol and sheathed it. He tenderly slid a hands down to Hideyoshi's waist while he waited for him to pick a different gun. "I suppose we'll just have to pick a smaller weapon for you then," He still spoke quietly. "That's a shame that you can't handle my large gun." The innuendo would be very clear, but he would still wait patiently for Hideyoshi to pick something else up.

He would continue teasing though. "Maybe a little derenger would do you best, little bunny?"

Trying to ignore the feeling of Kitsu's hands running down his sides, Hideyoshi tried to resist the urge to stomp on Kitsu's foot for the bad example of innuendo, opting instead to simply scowl in the direction of the larger boy for a few moments.

"I didn't say I can't handle it, just that I wouldn't use it," he retorted, opting to try and stomp on the other's pride for at least a little bit. "And if I'm a bunny, it's that one that bites people's heads off..." he added grumpily, picking up the nearest pistol and examining it.

The LeMat revolver looked a bit different from the other two that shared its' basic form, and Hideyoshi couldn't help but try and figure out how he might use such a weapon in the ways that he wanted.

With Kitsu's hands still on his hip he took the stance used before, aimed, and fired. The recoil wasn't nearly as bad on this one as it was on Kitsu's monstrosity, and the practice with more modern weapons meant that he was slowly getting closer to being on target.

"Bah..." the Tokugawa boy grumped, knowing that guns were incredibly useful but disliking them on principle. Even if he had started associating the scent of gun oil and black powder with warm hugs, companionship.... and obnoxious statements.

Kitsu watched from over Hideyoshi's shoulder as he tested out another firearm. He was concerned that his Tokugawa boyfriend was unable to settle on any of the weapons. "You know, you could try something more modern..." he was more thinking out loud.

There was a gun that was compact yet large enough to cause some decent damage, but Kitsu only saw it in his magazine, it was incredibly expensive due to shipping costs. He let go of the little bunny's hips and pulled a small magazine out from his kimono, presenting it to Hide. The name on the cover simply said 'guns' in a military stencil, and there were women and men on the front cover all scantily clad and holding various firearms.

He had marked several pages, one of which Kitsu would specifically point out. "It's made by this company overseas in America. It had special ammo and it was in what they call a 'magazine', which is a box you put into the gun." At this point, magazine guns weren't popular or well known seeing that they were dealing with revolvers and powder guns today.

Hideyoshi fired a second shot with the gun in his hand, slowly getting a feel for the recoil and method of aiming with such a weapon. He put the LeMat down and reached for another weapon, this time the pepperbox. It took him only a single shot to put the gun back in the box in disgust, that one was obviously meant for very close range, at which point Hideyoshi would have certainly been using his swords.

That gun definitely was not for him.

The young Tokugawa was distracted from his inner musing by Kitsu, who had let go of him in order to put a magazine in his face. He couldn't help but snort in repressed amusement at the fact the larger boy was carrying around such 'literature', it was so quintessentially Kitsu. Part erotic, part violent, it showed what was likely the boy's two favourite things in the world.

Violet eyes looked down at the image shown to him, examining the weapon that Kitsu identified, not too sure what to think. It looked a bit like the guns he was used to seeing, but different as well in minor ways. "I think I've seen a gun like this somewhere, but a two handed one..." he muttered before shrugging, "what makes this 'magazine' so special?"

Even if he didn't choose one of the guns that he'd been presented with, he'd probably still need to practice with them, but he was curious as to why the redhead had suggested this other weapon.

Kitsu gasped comically when his magazine was questioned. "How....DARE you! This is THE QUINTESSENTIAL maga-- nah, it's not really special. Just thought you might like it. He shrugged and threw the magazine over his shoulder lazily. "However the GUN magazine contains several rounds of ammo that you can fire without reloading. Then to reload it's a push of a button and slide in a new one."

"You would need a lot of money to import a gun and ammo like that, and it's not like you have a supremely rich family to buy you things..." Another coy smile at the very clear poke to his powerful family.

Besides, bunny, I'm just trying to help is all. Not my fault that I'm a little exotic." As he said the word exotic he struck a flirty pose in his kimono.

Hideyoshi could only stare with a raised eyebrow at Kitsu's dramatic act, the expression on his face clearly expressing the query 'why do I put up with you?' with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer.

That said, the idea of the weapon certainly had merit, multishot and ease of use were definitely high on his priority list, since it was meant to be a backup weapon for use when all others had failed him. Not to mention the excellent surprise it would be to see him wield such a weapon, considering his quite vocal distaste for guns in general it was unlikely anyone would suspect him of having one secreted away on his person.

"Exotic? More like dork," the young Tokugawa said dismissively with a slight smirk as he turned away from Kitsu, reaching into the box and pulling out a different pistol. Even if he wasn't going to choose any of these ones it was a waste if he didn't utilise this chance to at least practice using such a weapon. He didn't want to finally settle on a firearm only to end up misusing it out of sheer inexperience.

"I can't help but think you're only dating me because you want access to rare and expensive guns," he teased as he aimed the next pistol, firing twice in rapid succession and getting closer to the bullseye. It was getting easier to use this thing, even if he sttill hated it.

Kitsu's ego visibly deflated at being called a dork. He folded his arms in a comical pout. "Not a dork...," he said quietly. "You're the one dating someone who smells like gunpowder on a daily basis, Mr. I hate guns."

He did enjoy watching the young Tokugawa fire guns, it warmed his heart to see people enjoying them. There was a certain allure to firearms, something about the smell, the sound, the feel...something about them was just so beautiful in their own way. He was taken aback by his boyfriend's next comment, however.

"Hey. You having access to high power guns is definitely in the top 5 reasons why I'm dating you, but definitely not the main or even top reason..." His honesty was blunt as it usually is, but his folded arms and irritated facial expression showed that he was actually a little insulted by the comment. It seemed as though Hideyoshi had finally found a way to tease him back after so many months of them knowing each other.

"You were like a kicked puppy, even I'm not so cruel to ignore that," Hideyoshi replied with a smirk, glancing at a small sheet of paper that explained how to reload each of the weapons that had been presented to him. Deciding to take a break from firing, he began the process of reloading each one, fumbling with the powder and shot but staring down at the task with a determined look.

It wasn't easy, the pepperbox pistol in particular was a real pest and he managed to get gunpowder everywhere in the process. The revolvers were somewhat easier, with the built in lever to tamp the shot into the cylinder, but overall it was not particularly pleasant. Still, it was better than that class he had taken which had him using old matchlock guns.

"Well then, maybe you should tell me what the main reasons are, so I don't get the wrong idea," he said, the building frustration evident in his voice as he continued reloading. It was messy and irritating, but eventually he managed it and tried to brush the spilled gunpowder off his clothes in agitation.
