The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 11/01/2017 The dust has cleared after a fierce clash against the rebel Ikko Ikki monks. Now, as a tense period of calm spread over the island nation of Japan the students of Edo Bugei must figure out how to proceed in life after experience such intense conflicts and such deep loss.

Osore was holding himself up with his ironwood staff, obviously very weakened and frail. His legs seemed to refuse to work, which wasn't that unusual, but they seemed especially uncooperative at this moment. Sweat poured off of his forehead, and his eyes were closed. His breathing was unusually heavy as if he had run a mile and he had a small coughing fit that wracked his entire body painfully.

After taking a deep breath that seemed to shake his body as well, he would call out, "Who is still here," another shaky inhale, "Is everyone ok?" He would start to lift himself up with his cane, his small fire spirits floating around him as if worried. They had failed their job to keep him safe and seemed to understand that something happened, but were at a loss as to what that was. One of them brushed against his hand, and after reflexively drawing back Osore reached his hand out and touched the spirit on the top of it's being and pet it briefly, comforting it and shushing it as it's strange whispers seemed to be spewing out of it at a more rapid rate than normal.

His vision was dark which made him sigh a breath of relief. He wasn't used to sight and it was painful for him to process these 'colors' and 'shapes'. He started to mutter something to himself about a being of earthen color as dry as dead leaves, but left it at that unless questioned. He was trying to figure out how he managed to do what he did, all the while the death he saw happen stabbed into his mind and caused him great worry.

The world was dark, everything was crushing her. It was like being in a cave when the walls came in except also the opposite. The nothing, the emptiness was trapping her. But she had the stone. Bu didn't know where it had come from but it was her anchor. She wasn't falling, she was just there. You couldn't fall if there was nothing to fall toward. Maybe this was what space was like. A vast empty expanse, the only thing around was what you brought with you. Well if she was alone in the universe, that meant she was the only thing that mattered. She was the center of the universe.

The center of the universe was cold and she kind of wished that she hadn't had to give up her jacket for the punch, that said, it had felt good at the time. Like, really good. She started to giggle with a deep, throaty sound. "Bitch can't handle a friendly tap to the jaw." She shouted out to the void. Then she was flat on the ground outside. She sat up and shook her head. Everything felt weird. Her head, her arms, her chest, not her legs. They didn't feel like anything.

Oh god, why couldn't she feel her legs? She looked down and realized they were completely covered in stone and then felt a bit silly. Bu got up and the stone crumbled into sand as she did. It seemed like nothing had really changed when she went into the void and came back out. A testament to her willpower, of course. The others were starting to stir as well.

"Who's killing themselves now, assholes?" She shouted at the two girls and guy, then flipped up both middle fingers for good measure. "Ah beat you, me, none of y'all zombie bitches gonna keep this girl down." She started walking off and away from the other three, middle fingers still held high and waving. "Keep your fucking shirt, Ah don't need anything from you. Ah got my own damn sexy self." She shouted and then started humming the bars to some song while randomly shouting "savior of the universe".

Every remaining moment of the confrontation with the enemy who defied reality itself was supremely intense. All of the intensity and hatred which the corpse threw at her was returned in equal measure by the ex-miko. That scream may have demanded the deaths of all the living, but in Kumori's eyes burned a fury which retorted an intention to defend them all. This.. abomination.. it would pass, as would the villains who had raised their hands against Edo this day. As everything crumbled she grinned fiercely. Victory.

"The kami forsake you, demon," she growled, even as she became more aware of those around her again.

One, the boy, seemed to be having a good deal of trouble in the wake of battle. Nothing to be surprised by there as this had been a far more difficult fight than any of them had likely reckoned. One of the girls was quite upset and shouting for some reason; far too noisy for Kumori's liking. They were all alive, but these other students probably had seen her viciousness laid bare this day. The unrelenting fury and viciousness of a living weapon.. that was what she was. All she was useful for - only in fighting and destroying the enemies of order and the kami themselves was Nakamura Kumori capable of saving lives. Eliminate the darkness before it could harm others. Fight it in the place of others so they would not have to behold it themselves.

Looking at the bodies of those whom the ninja had slain, she knew her duty was now to them. Who else would pray to the kami for their souls? She sheathed her blade and began to utter prayers for them, making a point to condemn the enemy in the same breath. Only once she had said her peace quietly for them did she look to Osore and Kurome.

"There is still a fight in the castle.. I will go.." she announced, but when she started to limp toward the remaining fight, the exhaustion hit her and she keeled over, landing on her back.

Kurome blinked and looked around, finding herself back in Edo's courtyard. Had she been here the whole time? It was hard to remember, but the corpses, and her shadows were gone. Her activated ability had worn off the same time as the corpses were defeated... so she hoped. The girl kneeled on the ground and picked up the fox mask. This was her token of victory now, her mask. She would add it to her collection of masks.

The elite looked to the distance to see Edo castle burning and felt a sense of sadness, while a war was progressing on top of the main tower. She looked down at the fox mask in her hands, and looked around at her colleagues, who seemed very confused.

It was just an illusion, after all. Kurome smirked and nodded. What a great power to have, an illusion over your mind to make you see and feel things that were not there. She looked down at herself to confirm that, yes, she was not sliced up as she had thought and felt. She was whole still, save for her wound in her side from the ninja's kunai.

Kurome grimaced and grabbed her side, feeling the wetness and heat of her blood slowly dripping out of the deep gash. She had fought so hard she almost forgot about it. She ripped off the long sleeve of her kimono and tied it around her waist, mostly as a bandaid to soak up the blood.

Suddenly she felt a vibration and quickly turned around in defense, only for her to register that it was her phone. She pulled her phone out and read the messages asking about their location, a status report, etc. She texted back quickly "It's done." And sent the message, then she sent another one to Kai. "Are you ok?" She asked, hoping he was fine. She also hoped the princess was fine.

Kurome looked up at the sky as she heard some of the students attempting to leave. "Stay." She said outloud. "Rest. We've done well." The girl looked at her students and nodded. "We need to save our energy for whatever comes next. Stay, backup is coming."

YOU ALL GET NEW MUSIC THIS POST!

With all four having overcome the suicide illusion their mission was complete. In spite of the battle being waged at the top of the now burning Edo Castle the area around Edo Castle itself was secure. All four of them would get a series of texts asking them to stay put and not go near Edo Tower. Instead their new mission was to make sure no enemies entered the castle grounds and to try and keep what parts of the castle they could manage, as secure as possible.

All eyes in Edo would now be drawn to the top of Edo tower as massive blasts of energy permeated the sky line. Whatever was happening atop Edo Castle was quicky becoming an absolute death match with no one being able to tell who was causing what massive blast or explosion. Regardless, however, the war for Edo was drawing to an end. Now the group simply had to wait it out.

Bu was in a very foul mood and had no desire to wait for anybody, but the insistent and constant buzzing in her phone meant that she had to either sort it out or turn it off. Maybe she'd slip it into airplane mode but maybe it was also important. She reached into her pocket and pulled it out to find a large amount of messages from the school. She frowned at this, she wasn't on a mission, she'd deleted the damn tracking app they'd made her put on for them. That they could still contact her when she was shopping was not a pleasing sign.

She ignored the messages and stopped to send a message to her mom not to worry, she was fine so far. It would give her mother a reason not to worry, less worrying meant few angry messages later. Finishing that, it was time to brave the school's demanding bullshit, most of it was orders for students to stay in place and avoid the tower. She was tempted to ignore it and go back to shopping, probably could get a pretty good deal with the city destroyed, a bit of a five fingered discount. Although, they would probably track her phone and figure out she'd been there anyway so maybe not.

She groaned extra loud, just to make sure the universe knew she was exhasperated and leaned up against a wall. That was a mistake, reminding her of the nasty burns on her upper arms. Maybe not shopping then, maybe she'd go raid a pharmay or the clinic. She needed some burn cream to be sure.

All of Kumori's willpower hadn't been quite enough to even keep her on her feet. Moments after breaking the illusion of their insidious foe she'd tried to head toward the next battle. Even as she lay on the ground after her legs had given out, she still desired to keep fighting on. What good was she if she wasn't battling those who wished to deal harm to the innocent? Her mind was clear enough, and she reasoned that if she could think she could get off the ground. If she could get off the ground she could walk.. if she could walk she could fight.

So she planted a hand to either side of her prone form to gain purchase from which to get back into the fight. All of her body ached, and those parts of her that had been burned a bit stung on top of it. Her relic blunted some of the pain but she was definitely still feeling the effects of the battle. It wasn't as bad as the last major battle she'd fought in, where she'd been hospitalized for a while. At that time she'd still been an innocent child who was optimistic of the chances that her music and good nature could help keep the peace and make people happy. Now she thought she knew better. Music didn't stop people from dying and good intentions were no defense against the dangers of their world.

Kumori slowly struggled to a knee, then gritted her teeth as she pushed herself back onto her feet. She would need some rest at some point and she knew as much in the back of her mind. Even being told to stay away from the battle at the Tower only did so much to calm her. Should someone attempt to attack here again she would make them regret it. Her swords went back in their sheaths though. The edge was wearing off a little, and as she regained awareness of her body's limitations Kumori elected to take a seat on the ground nearby.

"If any more come, I will personally cut them down," she said grimly, "The enemy, I mean.. "

The girl paused and sighed, "Too many of own who need prayers said for them.. it is the way of our world."

The sounds of keypads beeping on their cellular devices accompanied with groans and comments of determination or taunting the enemy who had vanished assured him that they were all very much alive. His own cellular device buzzed and he reached into the pocket of his robe and felt around. After pulling it out, a bland, female robot voice read out the message aloud and instructed him what button to push to begin a voice reply.

He staggered over to a small statue that was in the area, and put his back against it before sliding down to the ground roughly into a sitting position. Sweat was pouring off his face and dripping down onto the screen of the phone. Illusion or not, being that close to dying defeated his frail body even more than normal situations. Being as malnourished as he was made him physically weak and ill most days, and this situation reminded him why he viewed combat as being beneath him. Such a dirty task, what with the blood, dirt, sweat and tears...

He pushed the button on his phone that let him speak a message, and he inhaled sharply, his lungs feeling like they may explode. "Our enemy vanished after a debilitating attack that left myself exhausted beyond continuing combat. Requesting medical assistance, non-emergency." He waited as the message was read back to him to check for errors, after this he said, "Send." His phone buzzed to knowledge the message sending. He would inhale sharply again, as if his body was trying to force him to not breath. The psychological torture he received seemed to be sending his body into shock, and as a response, his head bobbed down as he lost consciousness.

Kurome rolled her eyes at the command to not go to Edo tower. She was tired, all of the energy spent on this fight had drained out of her like a broken pipe. The girl looked again at the fox mask and frowned. This guy was similar to her, almost too similar. She fondly wondered if this was his artifact, as hers was also a mask. She reached up to touch her mask ,staring down at the fox mask. If only she had the power to mimic other people's relic powers...perhaps she could sneak into the group.

Kurome looked up and around at the others. In fact, they were the only ones around who knew the fox masked man had been defeated in battle. slipped the fox mask over her own head, surprised that it fit rather well, nestled against her own demon mask.

She looked, again, at the others, through the fox mask this time. They were all exhausted and tired. She knew that, while their hearts were pure and their efforts were true, they were not going to be any help at Edo tower. Knowing that they wouldn't run off and try to be heroes, Kurome sunk to the ground, in an attempt to rest, especially since her side was bleeding out.

This would be a long recovery. She looked to the red sky and hoped the Princess was okay, especially after all of this. She hoped their efforts were not in vain.

As the students tried to rest massive bursts of energy shot out from Edo Castle. As it seemed like all of Edo Castle would be engulfed in flames and blinding white light it wouldn't be long until the fight was over, and it would be another half hour after that when emergency forces showed up to make sure the students would be alright. Fortunately Kurome's side would stop bleeding after a bit of emergency care and extra pressure.

The situation in Edo was a grave reminder of the current, fragile state of the nation. Decades of peace had made the samurai of the nation untrained and unguarded. No doubt this event would change the face of Japan forever more.
