Kasai Souta of the Kasai Clan
HAIR: Black short hair that has various degrees of effort put into taming depending on the situation, though typically untamed and wild while clean.
EYES: Blue eyes.
BODY TYPE: Lithe without much definition.
STYLE: In terms of clothing, Souta is more or less always messy. Often when he wakes up and prepares for school, he simply forgets to properly do some buttons or will not take the time to straighten up his uniform. However when he attends more serious meetings with others, he will take the time to properly groom and dress himself respectfully, clearly capable of doing so if he wishes. Souta also mainly tries to wear older traditional clothes decorated with the Kasai emblem when possible as he adores the elaborate designs of an era long past. Whenever he is shopping in the city or wishing to not draw attention though, he will wear normal casual clothes. Even when in his school uniform, he might often have his top undone a bit and the legs of his pants rolled up.
OTHER: Souta mainly just suffers from being both short and slightly feminine looking along with young features, making people believe he is younger than he is. Often he is mistaken for someone a few years too small for Edo except for people who know him. His rather childish nature does nothing to help with this problem either.
A fairly kind spirit typically, Souta tries to do his best to get along with others and simply avoid conflict when he can. He enjoys simply goofing around and not having to worry too much about the little things. He can come off as incredibly affectionate to people he is familiar with, not afraid to give hugs to new and old friends alike. He also tries to do his best to encourage others towards their best, acting as a beacon of sunshine for others when he can. Despite this, he can be plenty fierce when he is put to battle. He can enjoy playing around with some people in or out of combat, but does his best to remain respectful in both forms. In addition, he holds life dearly and will try to avoid taking it whenever the option is possible.
LIKES: Sweets (deserts, candy, and other treats), members of either the Date or Kasai family, playing games, being shown proper respect, benevolent acts.
DISLIKES: Falling into the plans of others, needless confrontation, members from the Uesugi clan, waiting on others, complete disrespect for his family name, needlessly cruel actions.
AMBITIONS: For the most part, Souta is only concerned with the survival of his clan regardless of what must be done. However, he also hopes for one day to be recognized as a magnificent strategist and for his people to be renowned for their power.

WEAPON: Souta mainly uses his relic as a weapon similar to a club or baton although he tries to avoid direct combat. If he is forced into a fight however, Souta isn't afraid to take advantage of his small frame and agility in order to avoid attacks. Because of this however, he also cannot hit very hard himself and cannot withstand many blows either meaning he tries to avoid close combat when possible.
RELIC: The relic itself is a large Kiseru pipe refitted with weights and metal to make it a proficient weapon. In addition, it can still be used as a pipe for smoking although such a thing is only typically done once a generation to help preserve the value of the relic.
RELIC OWNER: Kasai, Harutane
OWNER HISTORY: One of the leaders of the clan during the Sengoku period, Harutane was a skilled tactician who kept his enemies constantly defensive with powerful shock and awe strategies. When he got older, he acquired the Kiseru believing it was a good luck charm and would smoke from it before each battle. After he passed, it was given to the next head who made a tradition of passing it once a new leader of the Kasai was selected. As part of a tradition, each clan head will smoke once from the pipe, believing that by doing so they can become closer with the spirits of their ancestors and accomplish the unimaginable.
ACTIVATED ABILITY 1: Smoke Attack - Souta channels energy from his pipe before it produces a light smoke in front of him. This smoke shifts and alters until it takes the shape of a floating blade that hardens within the air. He can then launch this blade to a maximum of three meters from himself to try attacking an enemy with it. After this attack, the blades dissipate. (One turn cooldown.)
ACTIVATED ABILITY 2: Ashen Soldier - Similarly to the last ability, smoke once more rises from the pipe although in much greater amount. Souta then proclaims a weapon and before him a faceless figure made of dark ash forms and solidifies before him. This figure will begin to attack any hostiles that Souta wills for and can move up to 10 meters from Souta. However, it is not difficult to defeat as it attacks without sense of self preservation and vanishes from merely a strike, mainly meant for surprise attacks or distractions. If the figure is not vanquished, it dissipates into a puff of smoke by itself in two turns. (Three turn cooldown.)
LOCKED ACTIVATED ABILITY 3: Ember Troops - This time, the pot begins to stir with life as faint flickers of flame stir within the Kiseru pipe. The whole area around Souta becomes enveloped in a thick smoke obscuring any vision. After a second has passed, the smoke dissipates to reveal a squadron of five troops behind him made of fiery embers and ash. These troops immediately rush forward at the enemy and begin to fight fiercely. For ten seconds (i.e. their initial post), they attempt to grapple onto the enemies at any cost. Unlike before, they will shift around things that attack them, enveloping them and trapping them within themselves. Once one round after summoning has passed, they suddenly explode in a meter wide range enveloping anyone unlucky enough in the blast. (Five turn cooldown.)
PASSIVE 1: Ancestor's Guidance - Whenever Souta takes the field of battle with his relic, he gains an unusual calm even as a situation becomes dire which allows him to continue forming and executing plans even as he endures blows, his mind becoming overclocked in order to try figuring out the best solution he can.
LOCKED PASSIVE 2: Ancestor's Secrets - Expanding on the guidance, this sense of calm expands Souta's mental capabilities as he becomes capable of manifesting three blades with Smoke Attack now and an additional soldier from Ashen Soldier.
LOCKED AWAKENED MODE COLOR: A yellow, wispy aura
AWAKENED ATTACK: Pot of Ashes - Once more, smoke leaks from Souta's pipe before swirling around him in a thick blanket that spread out roughly in three meters each direction. This smoke obscures any vision into the area while being inside allows faint silhouettes of others to be seen. From within, the same faceless soldiers from before stir around and attack any who are caught within, shifting through the smoke like angered spirits. For ten seconds, any hostiles caught within the smoke or who enter the smoke will suddenly feel themselves both pushed and pulled downward by the cloud as these being attacks all foes within. After a few more seconds, any enemies who did not escape from the smoke are suddenly ignited and burned cleanly through into ashes while the smoke begins to dissipate. Souta himself suffers a heavy exhaustion from this himself and is rendered unconscious from it from such a tremendous toll on his body as well as as well as fatigue afterwards.
• Father: Kasai, Gen'ichi

• Uncle: Kasai, Hikaru
BACKGROUND: As a young boy who had been born into the Kasai clan in the Hitachi province, the latest in a long line of people who would receive the family name. Ever since he was young, his family had high expectations for him. He was born a member of the Kasai after all and would one day need to take over the family when his father deemed him ready. Because of this, much of his early childhood was teaching and mental training to prepare him for such an ordeal. The initial hope would be that he would slowly be indoctrinated as the perfect heir.
Yet as time passed, it would seem he had no interest in most such stuff. It was not often Souta would ask for things, yet in turn he expected little to be asked of him. He attended his lessons for as long as he felt like before he would end up sneaking off to play. During practice, he showed great promise yet never wished to commit to his training, making him easily defeated much to his parents chagrin. For a while, the Kasai family wondered if perhaps Souta would never be ready to assume the mantle of leadership. He seemed to have little interest in such things in the first place and he struggled with the concept of duty far more than others. They worried that the family under his leadership would only collapse.
Then one day when he was around seven, he was visited by one of his uncle Hikaru. As a child, Souta had never seen much of this uncle as his father and him had apparently had a falling out before he was born. Yet now all of a sudden, this strange man presented himself before the young heir and offered to take him to the city of Joetsu. Just glancing over, Souta could see why his dad wouldn't like his uncle. He held a fairly unkept appearance that made him look lazy, his breath smelled heavily of alcohol, and his stature was far more relaxed than Souta's father would ever allow him. He didn't seem like very much at all to look at, though his height was somewhat intimidating. When his parents arrived, his father seemed to already know of the situation and bid Souta a good trip. Souta had no idea why his father would suddenly want him to be around this sort of man, but he followed regardless.
So Souta and Hikaru set off for the Echigo province, entering while still dressed in the formal wear that brazenly showed off their family symbols. Souta himself did not yet know any better, barely knowing anything of the Uesugi in the first place at that age except for his family despised them. His uncle however moved with a proud step as they took their time to stroll from one place to another. For the most part, it had been a fairly fun day as Souta took in the sights of the city and it's people, wondering why they could ever be hated by the Kasai. During these trips, his uncles attempted to speak to him repeatedly about how serious his position was and what it would mean to be the leader. Unfortunately, most of it just kind of flew over the lax nature of the young Souta. Hikaru would wonder if this trip would be a waste. It wouldn't be long before trouble would find them however. Just before the end of their trips through Joetsu, they would find themselves stopped by a pair of strange men.
Without any official representation upon their uniforms, the shady pair of guys would present themselves before the young heir, explaining that he would be handed over and no harm would come. Souta, for possibly the first time in his life, felt a sense of fear as he stumbled back and fell to the ground. He trembled on the ground wondering just what he would do to get out of this situation. As one of the men approached however, Hikaru's hulking frame moved to stand between the men and his nephew. He gave the pair one deal. They would either run or die. For a moment, everyone except the uncle had hesitated. But quickly a realization dawned upon all of them. This crazy man wasn't even bearing any weapons to defend himself with. With slight snickers escaping the two fiends, they quickly drew from their clothes a pair of knives as they warned Hikaru to get out of the way.
Yet the older man would not yield. He stood firmly in place and his piercing gaze only remained trained on the two thugs. Not wanting to lose out on a possible fortune in ransoms, the two men charged at the same time. Souta covered his eyes as he screamed, crying as he couldn't bear to watch what might happen. For the next few moments, he could hear a struggle. A few more past and all he heard was rough grunting and the repeated thud of something slamming. When everything had fell silent, Souta was shaking in place before giving a light jump as he felt someone grab him. He looked up to see his uncle standing there, smiling down at him. He had blood on his hands and as Souta tried to look to where the men had been, he felt his gaze forcefully pulled back to his uncle who lifted him and carried him back towards their home. He tried to fight back his tears which only continued to flow down his face as he clung tightly to his uncle. Soon enough he had calmed enough to gather his nerve and glanced over to see his uncle's blood soaking through the shoulder of his fabric. He began to shook again before he quietly asked why his uncle, the man who he had not even met before today, had done that. Why would he let himself get injured to protect the young boy he had only just met today like that?
His uncle simply chuckled and responded that it was his duty. One day the little prince Souta would be the new ruler of the Hitachi province. A lot of people would look to him to handle trouble and for strength. It was a duty and an honor reserved solely for the young man which his uncle would help see through. Souta didn't say anything else as he thought on that, tears once more forming in his eyes as he wished that he hadn't been so naive up until now. In order to keep the kid calmed though, he suddenly produced a small bar of half eaten chocolate for the child. Reluctantly, Souta took it and began to nibble on it while they would return home. After having his uncle's wound treated, the family expressed their thanks that nothing too serious happened and Gen'ichi shared a knowing gaze Hikaru, speaking without ever muttering a word. The next day when things had become more calm, Souta found himself clinging tightly to his uncle and thanking him deeply for what had been done. For a little while, the two were unable to be separated as the young man had developed adoration for the type of man his uncle was.
More than anything now, Souta found himself wanting to gain for himself the same sense of pride and duty his uncle had exhibited. Much less often would he skip out on his studies, he began to train himself much harder, and he took every chance to fulfill what his parents asked of him. He took the time to learn more about the family history and their rivalries, learning how the date were clearly their allies and the Uesugi were nothing but trouble. He performed admirably when tested on his mental prowess, his new found motivation helping him excel. His parents were impressed at the transformation. He still would sometimes exhibit the same reckless behavior, but for the most part Souta seemed to be shaping up fine as he grew older. His uncle would come and visit every so often to help try keep the young man humbled, often bringing sugary snacks with him which the two would greedily devour. Eventually Souta would grow into a wise teenager, still exhibiting much of his younger energy which was now focused to meeting his goals. As he came of age, Souta's father decided the young man would go to Edo Bugei to have him become even greater and perhaps show his strength.
But before Souta would depart, his father quickly took him into his private study which had before been off limits. There various artifacts and relics from another time sat, neatly preserved as if they hadn't aged at all. Souta was brought before each one with the hope that one might activate for him. As he picked up various firearms and blades, none seemed to react as his father had hoped. Confused and unsure, Souta glanced around before curiously trying to lift up the Kasai's kiseru, the only remaining object. Gen'ichi partially hoped it wouldn't react, worried about sending it off somewhere uncertain. Yet as Souta picked i up, a faint glow came from the object while a light smoked pooled within the pot. Souta looked up to his father and smiled as he finally found the one relic meant for him. With reluctance, his father gave an approving nod and began to make the preparations to send his son off. Setting off to Edo Bugei, he had a mix of things flowing through his mind. But at the forefront, he thought only of how he would make his clan proud.
