Yami's first time actually being a member of the club was a weird one. He wasn't used to the attention he was getting. It was supposed to be about learning how to pour tea, stay attentive to your guest, and how to be polite, but so far it's been girls who are desperate for a date. Some of the other members seemed like they were having a good time with their guests, but for now, Yami's table was empty.

He had two European style teacups on his table, as well as a small kettle and a few other things pertaining to tea. The young looking poison artisan sat on the side of the table that allowed him to face the door of the room that the club was allowed to occupy. Yami had a notepad on his table, using his free time to go over doseage of a new poison he was working on, and with a free hand that wasn't involved in calculations, he was idly pushing and flicking a square of sugar around the tablecloth.

The host club, a rather peculiar club to have in Edo Bugei considering its emphasis on more traditional, eastern culture. Today Matsushina was asked to come and see their day to day activity; by the seniors of the Host Club. Perhaps he could take away from the experience and learn a thing or two about being a host. If not, he could make himself acquainted with other students that he has never met or talked to before, a good opportunity otherwise.

Matsu was a special guest and as such, he was escorted by several female hostess in training, of course, such a thing happening amidst the already crowded place would attract quite a lot of attention; furthermore, if his reputation and looks is considered it would, in reality, cause utter chaos to unfold, but fortunately nothing of the sort is happening. Perhaps because his general attire - one he's wearing at the moment -doesn't stand out like it usually does, but maybe his effeminate, child-like physical features could attract unnecessary attention to himself.

He was searching for an empty table, for himself, and eventually found what he was looking for, but apparently it wasn't empty as the other side of the table is occupied by a host? A rather unique-looking one, in fact.

"Excuse me, may I take a seat here?" He waits patiently for response before doing anything further. Soft-spoken as always, he tried not to be rude as to interrupt the boy from what he's focusing on doing currently.

Not paying too much attention, his eyes widened and he scribbled a decimal number that seemed rather small along with a few words that seemed like medical conditions. He circled it and looked up proudly before being surprised that someone was standing there. He quickly flipped his small notebook closed and stuffed it into a penguin backpack that was next to him. Yami stood up abruptly and bowed. "Forgive me sir, please let me get that for you." Yami came around the side of the table and pulled the chair out for his new guest. "Would you like some tea?" After his guest sit he would try, in vein, to scoot the chair in due to his small stature and not particularly well defined muscles.

He then lifted the tea kettle and waited to see if his guest even wanted any of it. Yami seemed exceptionally nervous and it would be obvious that he wasn't used to doing this kind of thing yet. "Please, tell me about yourself, welcome to the Host Club," all spoken out of order.

Matsushina was partly surprised by how quick the host before him reacted and partly impressed by how he conduct himself, there's many type of hosts after all. The one in front of him is also new, it seems, to doing a host's work, but he isn't doing as bad as some others - as he can see in the room. He wonder where there hasn't been any customer or anyone looking for this particular boy? Could it be he doesn't stand out due to his small figure?

The reason doesn't actually matter, Matsu was about to find out why for himself.

Matsushina nodded and thanked him, "thank you". He sit himself down on the chair that was pulled out for him by this host, he would push his chair that he's sitting on closer to the table. Looking at his attempt to scoot the chair; in vain, no less, Matsushina thought that he shouldn't make him do that. "It's fine, I can push the chair in by myself"

"Of course, I would like to have a taste of the tea made by the host club." A smile of honest curiosity was emblazoned on his face, plastered and beamed directly at the host who is taking care of him at the moment.

His intention, his statement, every bit of them was genuine, and straightforward.

Understanding that it must be nerve-wrecking, Matsushina also acted out of order. After all, he's barely used to communication; being the introvert that he is, who hardly knows much in that regard, if at all.

"What would you like to know about me?" Asked Matsu in a teasing tone. The back of his hands were cushioning his chin, and his elbows are resting on the table, with his hands supporting his head high.

"No, but seriously, if there's anything you want to know - feel free to ask. " Gently spoken as it was, the way he responded would probably open more possibilities to their discussion.

It's possible Matsu could improve his communicative skill.

Due to certain baseless accusations, people rarely visited Yami at the host club, much less were genuinely curious about the tea he served. The kind he had ready was an English earl grey with orange rind mixed in to give it a fruity flavor. The young looking host picked up the tea kettle and carefully poured some of the freshly brewed tea into the cup that was in front of his guest. A bit of it spilled out and settled in the coaster underneath. This make Yami a bit flustered and he finished pouring the tea and set the kettle down gently.

After offering sugar, honey, and other sweeteners, he poured his own and added at least 5 lumps of sugar, possibly more. The young host had a bit of a sweet tooth, though that was an understatement. Yami would finally ask, "Lets start this up with introductions. My name is Hatakeyama, Yami. I am 15 years old, and I'm in the...," he hesitated for a moment, "Medical track." He finished his small introduction before leaning forward and waited for an introduction from his guest.

He was observing every single thing his host is doing. It was certainly good to be able to learn from merely watching him, but it does seem quite difficult to do. And that's when Matsu noticed the fragrance of the tea, it was a smell he's very accustomed to, this tea is common beyond the borders of Japan. He had tasted them on a few occasions during political travels with his father who often acted as Ambassador for Japan. From the smell, this tea can be easily identified by his memory as "Earl Grey". He continued to keep his gaze set on the cup as tea is being poured, he lightly inhaled the billowing steam from the cup. It's almost like seeing a cup of hot chocolate placed in front of him.

It was a nostalgic sight, tea serving. It reminds him of "home". His host interrupted his trip down memory lane by offering him different choices of items to add to the tea, from sugar to honey and various other sweeteners. He choose honey and milk, without adding any sugar. He actually has moderation on sweet things, but in reality he's quite the sweet tooth, as much as the host before him who casually added numerous lumps of sugar into his cup.

As the host started to introduce himself, he paid his attention carefully.

Looking at the host, Yami, leaning forward and waiting he saw no reason to hesitate.

"Introductions is it then? Well, my name is Honda, Matsushina." He took a moment of respite before continuing with his brief introduction. "I am 15 years old, and I'm in the Cavalry track".

"It's nice to meet you, Yami. " He said coolly as he's eyeing the cup of tea before him.

Taking a moment to appreciate the warmth exuded by the tea before taking a sip.

"Honda is a rather large clan, isn't it? What part of the family are you in?" He knew a very small amount about the Honda clan, embarrassingly small. This was bad for a business heir, because the Hatakehama family was owed money, favors, and goods from many of the families around Japan. A cart would arrive at the table with a silver lid on the top of it, pushed by a handsome looking blond gentleman.

He lifted the lid, and underneath was several flavors of a cupcake looking thing with very delicious looking frosting on the tops. There were brown ones and pink ones and even green ones, each one a different flavor and frosting design, though identifiably the same treat. It looked as though the server was smiling smugly at Yami, as if daring him not to take one, and Yami's face showed great strain from not immediately reaching for one. He very quietly and quickly spoke, "Please, guests first, have a pastry." He looked slightly defeated at offering his guest first, further showing his sweet tooth.

"Ah, yeah... It's a very large clan on its own, and its actual size is even larger - actually, I don't know. Mostly due to having strong ties, because of innumerable marriages in the past, to the Tokugawa Clan and even the Emperor's family line; but that's a story for another time." He chuckled lightly, it's almost as if he's giving brief lesson of history about the Honda Clan. "As for me, I am a part of the main family - I'm the scion of Honda Clan, heir of the clan's current Head, who happen to be my father." With his explanation, there can be no tone of pride to be found. In fact, the opposite, he was trying to imply that it's nothing of an issue, or anything worth mentioning or even that big of a thing at all. He doesn't like to show off, unlike most scions and students.

"I'd be willing to explain more should you want to find out more". He nodded to himself.

Such is his level of humility. Perhaps his most notable trait when conversing with him.

"As for you? May I know what clan are you from? Perhaps I may know a bit of it's history with Honda clan, in the present at least." He sounds as if he's trying his best to support the host.

As it seems there's a tension - sign of bad relationship - between him and other servers.

His tone of voice is indicative of his growing curiosity, he's clearly intrigued by the young host before him. However, he soon noticed that the host readied cupcakes for the both of them, much to his joy.

He eyed them for a while before drinking again, and waiting very calmly for his answer.

Yami had taken out his notebook on the side and wrote down Matsu's family name. He made another note to call to ask about debt to see if he was owed anything, though this would read strictly as 'call parents.' He put his pencil down and quickly shoved one of the mini-cupcakes into his mouth, frosting smushing around on his face. He then gave an angry look at the server before he walked off, leaving the tray near the table.

Hearing how modest his guest was about his lineage, he would do well to mind his place with his own. "I am part of the main branch of the Hatakeyama clan. We deal with overseas shipping and trade. My family owns a small potions and elixirs establishment." The Wicked Brews potions shop that Yami was talking about was small, but known for its reliable mixtures. Those in the criminal world or around the academy who have heard the whispers know that they are into more dangerous chemistry however, mixing poisons, smoke grenades, and other chemical mixtures using natural toxins and pure ingredients. "The academy saw my potential to help a great many people with the medicinal mixtures we create, and wanted to ensure that I follow in the footsteps of my parents." He looked down into his cup of tea and rubbed the rim with his thumb.

"I see...So, you're from the Hatakeyama clan, and it's main branch no less; meaning I can assume you're likely a heir candidate. And, you say your family deals with overseas shipping and trade, that's similar to the Li Clan." He looked at the notebook that was laid to the side of Yami, before paying his attention back to Yami. He would finally take one of the mini-cupcakes and have a taste of them himself, he seemed to enjoy it; he was smiling. He wiped the frosting sweets around his mouth in a formal manner with his handkerchief.

"I guess we're similar in that regard, well, the academy also saw my potential to become a future leader of the country, just like my father and mother. Both of whom graduated from Edo Bugei themselves. They also wanted me to follow in their footsteps to become an exemplary samurai that everyone else can aspire to be."
He looked into the distance and, reminisced briefly about his parents who are currently away for work; he certainly misses them. But he knows he must remain here and continue with his education, so that he doesn't get left behind by his peers. He also showed more restrained interest than previously in what Yami is mentioning: Potions and Elixirs, supposedly the Hatakeyama's specialty, among other things. It should be clear that Matsu wanted to know more.

"My family for generations served in the military, directly related to the Shogunate; as it's guardian and marshal of its military. Half of the country's military power belongs to the Honda; the other half the Maeda, and almost every Military Generals that currently serve Shogunate hails from the Honda Clan, along with my father, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Shogunate's army." His explanation was straight to the point.

"To become a suitable successor to vast amount of power, authority and responsibility, I must work hard." Matsu said, with a tone of great determination - he's unwavering in his path and goal.

Yami listened with great interest. This person's family had served the shogunate just as his own did, though in probably different ways. There's not an easy way to explain that your family helped the shogunate via underground criminal organizations that specialized in poisoning high ranking members of society. Well...besides just saying that exact sentence, but it's probably not a good idea still.

"The Hatakeyama family has helped in their own way. We'll just say that the Shogunate has allowed a blind eye for our family. We more or less have been trusted to act as we see fit for the safety of the country." It was at this point that Yami intentionally covered the poison calculations that were on the page of his notebook still by resting his hand over the top of it casually. "Thus we'll just say that quite a few families owe us. Either for past deeds or more current ones."

Matsu listened attentively to what is being conveyed to him. He liked what he heard about the Hatakeyama family, indeed, learning more about other families that are Shogunate loyalists is always a good thing; perhaps he can find an ally in them in the future, an idea that he considered for a while.

In case any events like the Ikko Ikki invasion were to happen again.

He would want to have the aid of clans like Hatakeyama that has worked with the Shogunate through different ways than most clan; namely, underground work, to find information about the shogunate's enemies.

"Oh yeah, I have heard of that...At least the Hatakeyama have tabs on which clans owe them, which is a good thing honestly." All things considered it's good to know who you can and can't trust among them.

He nodded.

"So, what made you decide to become a host? Or, well, a host in training?"
Matsu believe this is required for their conversation to move along well, and for Yami to be more at ease with their conversation.

Yami took a sip of his tea before answering. "My parents thought it would be a good idea to learn how to discuss business, politics, and the like in a setting that wasn't exclusively the shop front." His only other interaction with business and politics discussion was in the underground market that he and his family was involved in a swell. Not the best place to learn business tactics though.

He pondered a question for a moment before asking it semi-hesitantly. "So if your family is heavily military, are you going to try to keep up with your father and become a general or something?"
