Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 04/01/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. They have come to learn more about the state of Japan, the Shogunate, and it's Scions. We will be having a Lunar New Year's celebration, a school dance, and a combat tournament with them!

“Let’s...continue on like this,” is what he wanted to say as well. Her head was so light but felt good against his shoulder as he rested his head a bit against hers. Right now the rest of the world really didn't matter as long as she was next to him.
"This is perfect." he said quietly and lightly kissed her forehead before putting his head back where he felt it belonged, resting against hers. The only thing that would have made the evening better was if the small river in front of them had actually been his beloved Lake Biwa, but he was willing to let that one slide.

He knew if his bodyguards where present they would surely snicker, and his sister would likely take a million pictures from far away, thinking she wasn't seen but making too much noise to not be obvious. That was just how she was after all. Constantly wanting Suishoku and Nobuyori to be together. It was cute though, and certainly Nobuyori had always felt the same. In the entire world maybe his sister, or his bodyguards, really did understand him best. After all his father had never been around enough too, and his mother surely understood him but didn't really say much in that regards. She was busy next to his father most of the time after all.

"I hope, back in Omi, they are celebrating the holiday season like this. Mom, Dad, Kaori, and the others." he said, his voice soft and warm. More than anything, he loved his province. Even with Suishoku, she would obviously know that Omi had to always been the biggest thing on his mind. It was the curse he had to shoulder as lord of the province. Though as he said it, he lightly rubbed Suishoku's hand. It was his final wish for his province for the night, as his focus drifted back from miles away, to the cute girl next to him.

Her head nodded slowly in agreement as to not slide off him. This night was oddly perfect that it felt like a dream. The worries she had faded and the awkwardness of bringing them to him wasn’t as much of a nuisance as assumed. Their open affection left Suishoku blushing, not wanting to move away incase this was all but a dream as she snuck a kiss on his neck. Yet, where to go from here?

Her eyes opened to look out at the river before them on this evening. Omi would indeed celebrate in their own way and possibly out on the lake no less. Where would her folks be? Nobu’s warmth stayed off the evening chills when thinking of home. Her parents must be together somewhere or where father had taken her along to a company party for brief entertainment. That’s how most celebrations were as far as she could remember. The town and city would be as festive as it always had been. And in the quiet hours would the adults share a drink and say their hopes and expectations as the children were put to bed. Sharing this news to them may throw them to the moon of having a direct line to a province lord in as delicately handled as ever.

“They very well could. Call tomorrow and ask?” It was a thought to save for tomorrow if he did wanted to but it was into the evening now. Not many fireworks seem to light the sky as before, however late now is. Perhaps the only largest event to worry over now was would the dorm curfew if either of them chose to remember that.

His skin jumped a bit as she kissed his neck. The Prince now blushed just as much as his new girlfriend. The two of them would look like fools if anyone saw them right now. Two teenagers with extremely red faces in spite of the cold out. As the sounds of festival goers and fireworks gradually started fading away Nobuyori kissed Suisoku's forehead and looked up at the sky. The stars in the sky looked beautiful.
"They very well could. Call tomorrow and ask?” she said with a cute voice. Nobuyori smiled and held her closer.
"Yeah, I think we both should."

He was curious to hear what her parents would be doing as well. He had heard nothing but good things about them, and briefly saw them at the Maeda clan's castle. He wanted to formally meet them someday. He also hoped Suishoku could have a proper conversation with Nobuyori's father. Right now though, the night was drawing late. Both would need to go back to the dorms soon. Even a festival meant that the curfew was extended but not completely abolished.
"I guess we should go back soon." he whispered as he looked over at the cute girl curled against him.
"I'm sure the trains are still running." he whispered in case she was starting to drift off to sleep. Sometimes he really hated the Bugie's curfew policy. He also wished one of them could teleport.

Her masked head nodded little, holding him to stay off the small ting of nervousness while resting on him a bit. The padding of his Azai coat on his shoulders felt amazingly comfy right now that it was getting hard to keep her eyes open while thinking of what tomorrow could be like. It would be the both of them sharing this news. Of course, Suishoku wouldn't be hiding away from that and that it would be proper that they both should stay this together but there was that worry about her own folks. The worry that her folks may take advantage of the set up and the worry of keeping a work front with them when it came to grades and safety. All this would need to be plotted out carefully compared to sharing a call with Nobu's family. Between her own parents and Nobu's, the Azai's would be the easier of the two.

But this was all for another day as they held each other closely and whisper warmly to eachother. The comforting setting a sweet temptation to eek out every minute, every second, longer but there was always the Bugei curfew. This was pretty much set in stone and neither of them could play off as being 'bad' students to play hooky for the night. A weary yawn left her and she nuzzled her head into his shoulder. "I guess," she sighed, hugging him like a pillow when stubbornly leaving bed. Not even the new dorm set up helped either now that both gender rooms were physically separated than in a singular building. "But we'll see each other in the morning." That one positive being more than enough to spur a bit more movement on her part.

"Also, it's going to be a long walk if we miss the last train," she chuckled as if daring him to miss on purpose. Suishoku moved her head off his shoulder first for them both to stand up. Her hands let go of Nobu for a moment as she stretched in attempting to wake herself up for the walk.

"But we'll see each other in the morning." as those words the young Azai smiled. Of course they would. For all he was concerned she could see him any time she wanted and he would be happy.
"Also, it's going to be a long walk if we miss the last train," she taunted. He wanted to miss it. More than anything he wanted to forget the train as an excuse to spend far more time with her. Unfortunately it wasn't him. Nobuyori was an arrogant boy externally, but the fact was that internally he was both extremely caring of people below his station, and also very strongly believed in law and justice. He wanted to miss the train but if he did then no doubt they would both get in trouble, and would both return to the dorms extremely exhausted.

As Suishoku stood up and stretched, finally taking her arms off of Nobu he leaned in. Rubbing his nose a bit against hers he pulled her close and kissed her lips with a large smile on his face. Just this tonight, for this moment, he didn't need to be SUCH a paladin. With a sly smile on his face he looked in her eyes.
"If we miss the train, it will endly horribly for both of us. we should go." he said as a kind smile and warm look of affection appeared upon his face. His hair and jacket looked more ruffled than usual due to the light wind, the games earlier, and also from Suishoku herself. No doubt on the way to the train he would start adjusting his hair and robes. He loved Suishoku but he was forced to maintain an appearance.

Forced may have been wrong though. The truth was that he really enjoy looking put together and clean. It made him stand out more, which in many ways was what he wanted. At first due to wanting to be clearly above others, but later on so Suishoku would always be able to find and notice him. It was strange to think it started with him being offended at her touching him like it was nothing. Him, someone who for so long before moving to the Bugei was considered above everyone since he was the prince of the land. Yet being at the Bugei had changed so much. He was no longer the biggest, most beautiful bird in the flock, and even met people who either didn't know who he was or didn't care at all. Thus since coming to Edo he had tried even harder to stand out.

Her body flinched with her outstretched arms stiffening above her head then bending gradually downward to hug Nobu's back for support. It was very likely she would have fallen over as much as her heart was feeling as Suishoku's face turn red hot in his arms. "Ah...Mmnm," she stammered against and welcomed his warm lips that continued to ward the evening chills away. That sly smile of his surprisingly looked handsome on him tonight adding more to her flustering. Her hands slid down to rest on his shoulders and a bit lower to the mid-back of his clan jacket while hugging him in reluctant to leave his hold. With hand naturally holding each other and a light hearted smile as she whispered to his lips what could possibly be the most dangerous thing for them to do tonight. "A shame that we can't spend a brief night at a local inn instead of returning," Suishoku admitted with less fear and more of a light sigh that it wasn't an option to.

While she had less of a reputation to loose, Suishoku was aware that this could be problematic for her friend as a lord to be. The sheer implications of it all when the two may as well be sleeping in separate futons the whole time. Another shame was how the girls and the boy's dorms were far more separated by physical buildings than a simple side wings in a singular building. Meeting up again tomorrow couldn't come any faster thanks to these worries of just making it back to the school. At least then everywhere was in walking distance.

Having said that, Suishoku giggled and kisses him softly in a quick and playful sort. They'll never reach the trains any quicker at this rate with them trying to stall each other in some manner and form. "Mm, so what will you do with your mask?" She kept a hold of one of his hands, ready for a walk to the train as a finger pointed to the lopsided mask that sat on the prince's head. Even her own was a bit shuffled around thanks to spending this evening becoming closer to Nobu she didn't think would be possible for a long time. "I'm thinking of hanging mine somewhere for safe keeping till another festival occasion."

As Suishoku talked of an inn Nobuyori's face turned completely red. Due to the way she had whispered it all that popped into his head was lewd thoughts he wouldn't dare give voice too. Instead as she wrapped her fingers in his and they started walking towards the train station he focused completely on her question about what he would do with the mask he had won, gulping a little as he tried to focus his rather stubborn brain elsewhere and away from the thoughts and images flooding into his brain.

Walking to the train station holding hands was already enough to kill the poor boy after what she had whispered.
"I think I will hang mine up in on one of the walls in my dorm. Probably put some kind of nail in the wall and hang it by the string from the nail." he said as he nodded confidently to no one in particular to reaffirm his answer. He had thought at first of hanging it by the top of the mask but was sure it would eventually break the mask. At least a string, if broken, could just be re-strung at some point. Thinking about it even made him raise his hand to the mask hanging on the side of his face. It was clearly a kind of cheap carnival mask but it was still fairly nice to have. It would look kind of funny in his dorm.

"Hey," he started to say as they approached the train station. Looking at the last trains running he prepared to get on the train that was bound for the station near Edo Bugei. As he was about to get on the train he finished his thought.
"Tonight, is really special. I haven't been this happy since you came to visit Omi." he said and got on the train. The memories of that night, and the ones of this night, both made him happy. She fit so well beside him that it was like two people that had always been meant for one another. At least that is how the love struck young prince chose to look at things. Even in his home and in his castle she fit so well that even his bodyguards and family had asked about her often.

She giggled and leaned on his arm as they walked as her offer of an inn somehow quieted him a bit. Obviously it flushed him so and even she was blushing from teasing him that way. Of course neither of them would do anything nor dare to without becoming blushing messes. Suishoku quivered while holding back a giggle of how sleeping arrangements would just be two futons side by side or something. Partly she did listen to his plans of simply hanging it on the wall thanks to some slight repeating on Nobu's part. The masts were rather Noh style in a way so it sounded reasonable enough to hang them as such. Hers would go right next to the one from the Noh class in her dorm room in a similar display fashion. It would be very unlikely she'll start a collection of them like Kono-sensei but it will be a start.

The station came into view, amazingly enough to have walked this far so closely, with the times display with a few trains still running at this hour. Narrowly missing the last one with a few circuits making their final runs. A taxi ride would be a bit expensive as a last resort if one was ever found. Nobu caught her attention for something making her blink curiously but nothing came from him just yet. Instead, Suishoku smiled and blew a foggy breath into the air to have made it in time as they walked pasted the gates and stood waiting at the platform for the train to arrive with doors opened. She released her hold on Nobu for him to go first due to the door sizes when he paused as though remembering what he wanted to say earlier.

"Tonight, is really special. I haven't been this happy since you came to visit Omi." He disappeared into the train car with those parting words leaving her standing on the platform smiling softly with memories of that brief vacation of Omi flooding in. The trip was really something in seeing how her friend acted at home. His home in general felt almost like visiting family somehow and more than just a sleep over at a friend's house. Everyone treated her well despite coming clean to Nobu's mother of her real background that it remained a top choice to visit again just to learn more.

The ringing toll of the train's doors about to close made got her moving again to jump into the train before it would leave her behind in that memory daze. Its doors closed behind her and it started moving again as she walked through the car to find where Nobu was to sit with him for the last of their journey to the dorms. She would find him near the window, giving him a light smile while leaning on one of the standing poles in the train for support as the whole thing gently shook and rocked ever so slightly. "Tonight truly has been special," she agreed and slid next to him after some time thinking of how much tonight was special. "I have you to thank for all this." Words alone just couldn't grasp the full picture or if something was in the air that started it all. All that she could say that tonight was very special to her as well and that being with him made it easier to forget the more dire things of the world which may be what summed up how Suishoku felt tonight was special to her. "Everything feels at peace with you."

"Everything feels at peace with you." the words certainly gave Nobuyori a warm sense of pride. He hadn't felt like he had done much himself. It was only working with Suishoku that made the night so wonderful. letting his eyes droop a bit a slight yawn escaped the prince's mouth.
"I hope that feeling never changes." he said back with a smile. Now that he was finally sitting down on a train, on the way back to school, the late hour was slowly starting to seep into him. His pores felt a bit clogged, his eyes seemed in rebellion at being open for so long, and his skin had goosebumps both from Suishoku and from the cold earlier. Moving around in his seat to get his blood pumping a bit again he looked up at the top of the train. The various advertisements above the windows, and the city that starting moving quicker and quick as the train left the station towards the school.

Yawning again he moved in closer to Suishoku. He didn't want their to be much distance between the two of them right now. Both because they needed each others warmth at the moment, but also because after everything that had happened tonight it felt wrong to suddenly put space between their bodies now. He wanted to make sure they stayed close until they at least got to the Bugei. In which case they couldn't be as tight against one another for obvious reasons related to both rumors, and the ninja in training students who would likely see them and then start those rumors. For now, as lights flashed from outside buildings into the train car, he was content. In spite of how could he was, the night was still amazing.

"Edo really is beautiful some nights." he said to her as he rested his head half against her shoulder and half against the seat.
"Don't you think?" he asked, closing his eyes for a few seconds before opening them back up. He forgot for a few seconds he couldn't sleep on the train. He needed to remember it, and stay awake. No doubt Suishoku was probably feeling similar ways both about how happy she was, but also about the large amount of sleepiness that such comfort brought on in the late evening hours.

Smiles were all around as she nodded with the same wish. She wished things were this peaceful a bit longer but even if they may not stay that way for long, Suishoku hoped to maintain this with him. Her back rested into their booth seat with the train sounds becoming rhythmic. Not much music played at this time so it was just the noise from the train and each other. She could feel her eyes wanting to close then opening them to stay awake in a snap only to droop half closed. That tugging lure for sleep somewhat harder to ignore now that they're inside an enclosed train car creating a warm pocket compared to just the two of them moments before. The slight weight on her shoulder didn't feel like a bother at all but did make her feel a bit more sleepy.

"Mm, Edo sure can be," Suishoku nodded slowly, eyes feeling heavy. Edo had its moments of being beautiful that it's rare to see them at night thanks to their strict hours. The fear of ninjas and spies didn't help much either since her curtains back at the dorms were kept shut of prying eyes thus eliminating more of glances toward Edo's evening lights. Her hand reached for her phone to set a small alarm for their stop before hugging Nobu's arm tiredly as though to not part from him when waking up later. It'll be a few stations before arriving near Bugei so a quick nap won't hurt. "Maybe in a few years the curfew won't matter anymore," she tried not to yawn her words while resting in their booth but it was too late. Before she could even continue what more she wanted to comment about Edo's night life and seeing the other districts together some day, Suishoku had fallen asleep. The chilly night and long walks of keeping each other warm took its toll on her.

"Maybe in a few years the curfew won't matter anymore," she said sleepily after agreeing with her new boyfriend on how pretty Edo could be at times. Though as Nobuyori looked over at her to ask her something else she had already fallen asleep, leaning against him. The tired prince smiled a bit. The train was moving slow and still had other stops, so it wasn't as thought it hurt anything. In Nobuyori's eyes it was even pretty nice to have her asleep like this. He wanted to take a picture but he had become too tired to move. Between everything that had already happened, and how comfortable he was right now, sleep was quickly dragging the young Azai away from the waking world. In a final, desperate battle, he tried to stay awake, only to fail.

The two had both fallen asleep as the train kept going. Fortunately no one really got on the training this late in the evening anyway. Many people had already gone home with their families or friends, and any Bugei students that had stayed out this late either tried sneaking back to the school or laying low somewhere or another in town. Even as the doors opened at one stop or another no one got in. Save for one stop.

As the train came to a stop two stations away from the one for the Bugei an older looking gentleman with bags under his eyes gazed at the two with calm eyes. He was wearing a long brown trench coat and had a book in one arm as he looked at the two sleeping students. Shaking his head a bit he smiled. Dr. Naganori Shirasu stepped away from the train. Pulling out his phone he didn't take a picture of the two or anything such things. Instead he summoned a taxi. Walking away from the station he looked back at the train briefly.
"Well, that certainly is one way to relax." he said aloud to himself as he walked back towards the street to wait for his ride.
"At least those kids can relax, after all this time." and with that gazed at his copy of "war and peace".

The visions of the train they were on faded and lit back into view in her dream. Its rocking motions looping. If only they could rest like this for the night. If only this train won't reach the school. Suishoku thought these tightly while hugging Nobu's arm in her sleep of just the two of them together. Who knew being in the comforts of something like this felt so safe. No anxiety or worries could touch them it seemed. When the train doors opened and closed, there would be a brief shuffling but not more than that from the draft.

She dreamed of what Edo was like before fully getting introduced to the school. That dream of a big city and how the people were. In a second there would be Nobu on the roof practicing his talismans and scrolls. She smiled at how serious he looked but had that air of assurance along with his proud self. A real introduction of what a young soon to be clan lord was yet it never occur to her that, when seeing this memory again, did he seem rather smart in his looks. His coat making him more ceremonious that she instantly thought he was an onmoyjin without even knowing for certain if those talismans were simply special slips of paper or of real power. The parts of him that made her gravitate to him without any second guesses or thoughts on why.

A few years later, here they now were. Almost like any other day but with more closeness than playful interactions and respectful care. Suishoku smiled fondly at the memory as something rumbled in her pocket. The alarm for their nap made her head slip a little to his chest in a tired daze before picking her phone to turn it off. "Five more minutes," she mumbled and searched the station monitor overhead. A train icon drew closer to the stop just outside of Edo Bugei. "Mm, hey," Suishoku shifted her mask behind her head as she turned to the sleeping Nobu and whispered in his ear while shaking his shoulders a little to stir him. "Last stop, Nobu. Wakey wakey." She tried coaxing him as the train announcer read off their line station to the two passenger aboard.

Nobu was resting well. As he slept his thoughts drifted back to their trip to Lake Biwa. Suishoku had taken a ride with he and Yumiko on the train. On the train they had shared food and laughed, enjoying the scenery as they arrived on Omi and greeted by Nobuyori's guards. Then being taken to the Azai clan's castle, getting food at a fancy restaurant, and spending a large chunk of the evening on the lake. All of it played in Nobuyori's head as over and over he focused on Suishoku's smile. It was a cute smile he never wanted to lose.

As his dream played out he heard her sweetly whispering to him.
"Last stop, Nobu. Wakey wakey." and that a quiet
"huh?" escape the Prince as he slowly opened his eyes, blinking a few times to adjust to the world around him. Still feeling Suishoku close to him he looked at the train sign to see they had already arrived near the school. Closing his eyes he squeezed them a bit hoping he was still in a dream before opening his eyes completely and pouting a bit.
"I guess, we should get up." he said groggily. The night was almost over, and it was a shame. Though he knew he wouldn't forget this night any time soon.

"I guess, we should go towards the school then." he said quietly as the train finally pulled into the Edo Bugei station, stopping as the train's lights came back on and the words LAST STOP played out over the intercom. Moving his arm as though trying to find something lost in the dark he found Suishoku's fingers and wrapped his finger in hers.
"I guess we should go." he said it more to himself than anything else. He was trying to convince himself he needed to get up and actually go. Even though he didn't want to.

Not even midnight and he’s already in his morning sleepy mood. She smirked when he pouted. It wasn’t the sort of face seen on him too often. Rather than rush did they take their time, Nobua waking up more and her waiting by his side. Their hands held one anothers and the train doors opened. “We’ll still be here,” Suishoku reminded him gently, giving his hand another light squeeze. Reminding them both that this wasn’t a dream.

Leaving the station left their final walk hand in hand. Bugei sat upon a hill giving a slightly better vantage point seemingly overlooking the station and surrounding smaller buildings. The curfew may be what really kept most students in line in the trendy Edo. Suishoku held Nobu’s, partly leading and partly keeping in pace, to the gates. The return to the evening air waking her up with each step. Eventually they would pass the gates and find the path the still dorms. Their lights still kept on and the divided gender dorms dotted with ligts of other late night residents.

Not once letting go, she turned to her significant other in wonder of here on. Nobu looked glum since leaving for the dorms so she thought to keep his mind less on their night ending soon. “After sharing the news to Kaori, what would you like tomorrow?” All she could think of were usual things like most others days before; playing games, hang out for a late breakfast, and so on this classes happened. She wondered if things would be anymore different now than they were no longer being a full time student. “Hmm, maybe make a fort in preparations when Kaori makes her surprise visit?” The fort part, of course, was a joking portion as she chuckled.

Nobu and Suishoku made it to the dorms. Nobuyori was more content than he had been for a long time, and barely even noticed the chilling cold of the evening. After all right now he was on cloud nine, and what was a little cold compared to the cute, warm girl right next to him? As they approached the dorms Nobu still felt a bit glum, but that was when Suishoku spoke of what they would do the next day.
“After sharing the news to Kaori, what would you like tomorrow?” at first this brain hadn't fully registered her words. In truth the young Prince was still dead focused on the here and now. A combination of thinking he was dreaming, and being extremely tired. In spite of her words he still wondered if he would wake up any moment to realize it was a dream.
“Hmm, maybe make a fort in preparations when Kaori makes her surprise visit?” they both chuckled and Nobuyori yawned a bit, looking clearly sleepy.

"I'm sure when we tell her she will be here right away. I don't think it will be much of a surprise." he said laughing a bit more. Tomorrow still felt like a million years from now.
"I don't know if I want to tell her tomorrow. I'll think about it in the morning. Maybe after a nice breakfast?" he asked her with a gaze so warm and caring, in spite of his need for rest. Everything around them didn't matter, and even if others saw them holding hands he was past the point of caring.
"Breakfast, and then whatever you want." he said as he smiled from ear to ear.
"If you want to get lunch in Southern Edo, or play games, or call whomever you'd like, whatever you want." though after the words Nobuyori's eyes squeezed shut for a few moments, nice and tight until he quickly opened them back up.

"I'm sorry." he said as he scratched the back of his head a bit in embarrassment. It was hard to tell at this point if he was blushing because of the cold evening, or if it was because of everything that had happened between them tonight. He hoped the two of them would be a happy couple, and stay together forever. This night seemed too magicly, and the words she had said finally fluttered into his mind.
"I think tonight...is too perfect to be a dream. I could have never made up a night this amazing." he kept eye contact with her and didn't dare to break it. He kept looking into her eyes. The shape, the color, they seemed to perfect as he raised his hand and brushed her hair aside.
"I love you. You are perfect." and rested his hand on her cheek. This late at night, fortunately no one seemed to be around. So it was likely no one would see them. Which even though it wasn't on Nobuyori's mind right now, he would no doubt consider it in the morning. Though that was tomorrow's Nobuyori, and right now he was with the most perfect girl in the world.
