It was raining hard, harder than Kai could remember. Kai sat silently in the hospital bed, beside him rested a purple stuffed bear Kurome had sent him. It remained untouched as Kai continued to stare gazing towards the mountains in the distance. He had barely spoken a word since the death of Masumi, he felt if he did he would breakdown. He couldn't bring himself to utter his fallen friend's name. The words felt like poison... was he even worthy of mention his name? His hands clenched the blankets of his bed so hard his nails cut into his palms causing the sheets to redden slightly with blood.

He was not alone in his room, with him sat three people, Aizen, Shingen, and Shinji, his fellow Hitokiri. This was indeed a odd sight to those not in on the group as the Hitokiri were always apart on mission rarely getting leave to gather. However, Kai had precious intel on the leader of the Ikko group that had attacked him and the Shogun, thus the Hitokiri had gathered. They sat in silence, Shinji looked at Kai with a worried look the usually upbeat attitude sucked out of the boy. Aizen stood by the windows staring outside. Shingen by the door to the hall way.

"Izuki.. I realize this is hard for you..." Aizen said the usual cold voice filled with subtle hints of concern. "But... we need to get back out there as soon as possible. The Ikko are moving quickly." He turned to Shingen. "Shingen's going to be dispatched in 4 days times to prepare forces in the north."

Shinji spoke next. "Shouldn't we.... give Kai a moment to rest and regain his strength I mean.. Mas-." He stopped talking turning to look towards Kai. "He..lost someone special..."

Shingen let out a sad sigh and shook his head. "Sadly we don't get the luxury, you know that Shinji. We need to push forward and so does Kai, if he doesn't then he'll never find peace or get the vengeance he craves."

Kai spoke softly. "I will kill him."

This had been the first time Kai spoke since they had arrived. "I will erase him and his damned rebels from the face of this Earth. I will take everything he holds dear, everything he believes in and I will crush it." His hands shook but his eye remained cold and dead as he watched the rain, the ghost of Masumi hanging out his window. "History will not remember him. He will be forgotten in the ashes of time. I swear it." His voice held deadly certainty.

Aizen looked towards Kai his eyes filled with sad disapproval. "We can't be acting rashly Izuki. We need to maintain a clear focus."

Kai turned to look at him. "Fine." He climbed out of the bed and stood looking out the window. Shinji made a motion to stop him but Shingen threw his arm out to stop him shaking his head. Shinji backed down his eyes narrowing at the feeling of uselessness.

Kai spoke again. "He was fast, silver hair, long smooth voice and soulless blue eyes. He was skilled on par with me, maybe even a little better. His style was quick and calculated, he was a scion as well his relic involved white light constructs. He is extremely dangerous."

Aizen nodded. "We have a name Shin Kazuma, directly from the Shogun himself in fact."

Kai turned to look at Aizen narrowing his eye. The eye-patch he now wore was his own relic, the eye-patch of Date Masamune. "Shin Kazuma... Tch..." He took a deep breath, he had his target's name now. "What do we know about him?"

Aizen shook his head. "We can't talk about it in public. It's best we all leave and give you your needed rest and we will discuss this as a whole once you've been released."

Kai turned away not making a sound as Shinj stood up opened his mouth then shut it turning and leaving. Shingen put a hand on Kai's shoulder and squeezed in a supportive way before leaving with Aizen follow suit.

A nurse entered not soon asfter. "Uh Izuki-Sama... you're assigned healer is arriving now a one Yuubae Suishoku."

"Send her in..." Kai said coldly.

Suishoku sighed with her umbrella and an additional rain poncho underneath thrown over her school uniform. The day just looked horribly gloomy and the amount of rain wasn't helping either. The weather mentioned it as an early monsoon rains or something but that could have been the lightest news to be heard. The last five days had been strictly low key in a sense. Unlike the higher names who took part in the mission who were whisked away into the confines of Edo castle or something as a lock down, students such as herself were given orders to keep quiet about the whole mess that took place five days ago. No one was to talk to each other about the mission or to any other student.

It was hard to not really keep it low key. Keen eyed students had their suspicions that something happened due to a few members during Higan-E went missing to dead silence. The least her or anyone else could do was not say a word of what really happened against those Ikko monks. Nothing felt good or right since. A suicide watch was even placed thanks to all these depressing emotions hanging in the air and now, it had to rain. What was to be cheerful about? The question made Suishoku furrow her brows together. A hard question to answer. That mess of a mission led to the death of Masumi, literally disarmed the Shogun, burned down a shrine, killed several soldiers and wounded many exhausted students all in the span of one evening. Now in sworn secrecy did she also have to hide an item that should have been turned in to the castle; Masumi's fan.

She took it upon herself to take something of his belongings to give to Yumiko. The girl obviously had feelings for him but it was such a delicate matter that it was hard to really bring it up. Yumiko shut herself down and became damn near lifeless. How could she possibly give the fan to her in that state of mind!? The last thing Suishoku wanted to cause was another death if the heartbroken girl opted for suicide. The very thought made her curse herself for bringing taking the fan in the first place but that wasn't the only reason. Suishoku wanted to curse at Masumi as well for dying like that. He pushed himself on that death march just to show he can do it. That he wasn't sickly. Masumi wanted to make a name for himself and that was in death would he had been able to. The selfishness of the whole mess made Suishoku angry at the dead man making her more unable to complete the self appointed delivery. The last five days was the fan wrapped up and thrown to a corner of her dorm room in a fit. She wasn't ready to come to terms just yet.

After school today did she receive a text of her assignment. As a new Elite, she was now tied up into private lines and started to get messages unlike the normal school ones for the last two years. It was still a new promotion for her but was told it was granted by recognition of skill. This never occurred to her that her healing relic would help her get to such a position so this became a fine spike on the road. She was told to go to one of the hospitals in Central Edo; address included. A quick train ride from the dorms sponsored by Izuki-senpai brought her to a district of seemingly apartment buildings. A sign at the bottom bore the hospital markings.

She left her umbrella at the door and hung up her rain poncho in the hallway before signing herself in at the guest counter. The clerk behind the counter gave her the room and floor number for Izuki-senpai's room and left the girl on her way with a nurse escort. It was pretty dark out and usually dinner nor night time for many patients. Even in the stark clean hallway could the rain still be heard. It was really coming down. Susihoku looked to the doors while following behind the nurse guide. After the battle, she was somewhat aware that Izuki-senpai was also injured at the time but didn't know any further than that. It would be the first time since, well, that summer when appointed to Elite had they directly met. She didn't have the slightest clue how he'll be. The worse case scenario was Izuki-senpai's fan girls behind around. Those people can get pretty dangerous in their own right.

The hallway remained surprisingly empty as they neared the door. Suishoku assumed it to be the door before them as one left the room. That blonde Shinji! She stared at him for a moment but he didn't seem to recognize that she was there. His mood more sullen for the first time. Following after were two more men who stepped out with solemn looks about them. Older, built, and an air Suishoku didn't feel comfortable with about them. She stood to the side to let them pass with care to avoid direct eye contact. The two men felt of death from the looks on their faces. She waited patiently in the hallway for the nurse to return. Once she did was she granted entry.

She bowed to the nurse in thanks and entered the room. "You..called for me?" She asked, unsure of how to put it. The newbie Elite stood in her uniform in the room as the door closed behind her with a click. Her eyes roamed the room while waiting for an answer. Izuki-senpai held his back to her and stared outside the window. A purple teddy bear rested near the bed and a few chairs were moved about since those three men came and went. The most odd thing to her about the room was the lack of other gifts. "The...fan girls don't know you're here, senpai?" Her question rolled off and sounded more confused by statement. So strange for a lack of an abundance of in hospital gifts with the behavior of his admirers. They could possibly be back at school and piling high on his work desk but that was a hunch.

Kai didn't turn around to greet Suishoku, he kept staring outside at the window as the rain hammered down against the glass slowly washing the ghost of Masumi away. He tore his eyes away from the downpour turning to her as she spoke of fangirls. His eye showed little to no amusement at the joke and a clear hint of displeasure at the word. Suishoku was actually one of the few people in Japan that knew where Kai was. Kai was considered top priority right now due to his encounter with the silver haired man. He took a moment before responding softening his voice to not give away the rage bubbling inside him.

"No one knows I'm here, at least not many people do." He moved to his bed sitting down on the sheets gently. He felt semi bad for the girl. She was summoned at short notice in the pouring rain to come tend to him. "I'm sorry if this is a bother to you.. but the Shogunate has assigned you to over see the treatment of my right eye which as you know was injured in my duel against the silver haired man." He shifted a bit flashes of the fight echoing in his mind making him uncomfortable.

"The doctors at this hospital and even some flown in from others can do nothing about my right eye. However, one scion Doctor from Edo suggested you be assigned to heal me as you showed great skill during the earthquake earlier this year."
He moved his hands beginning to carefully remove the bandages covering his eye.

As the bandages fell away Suishoku would note that his face was still as handsome as ever, In-fact the fresh scar that ran down his right eye added a bit more to his looks. The eyelid fluttered as Kai struggled to lift it before hissing at the stinging pain. "The Doctors say some sight may remain, but the healing process could take years." He looked at her his cold blue eye starting into her. "I don't have years I need to be able to get back to my work."

He sat back up slowly brushing hair away from his injured eye wanting her to have a clear view of it at all times. "Do you believe you can help me like the Doctor claimed you can? It's fine if you don't believe you can Yuubae-San." He nodded quietly hoping she would answer back positively staying in this damned room was killing him. He felt trapped and alone 24/7 he was eager to get out as soon as he could.

She stood by the entry way of the hospital room, watching Izuki-senpai's pack and the empty room between them. It was how she first came into contact with him before during her detention service as an office assistant, a room between them and the uncertainty of advancing further without granted permission. This time, Suishoku wasn't as nervous as she was before but the manner of being here had a different sense of unease. There wasn't the feeling of being punished or thought lowly of but the air that filled the room between them seemed tense.

He didn't reply in kind to the joke she made and Suishoku admitted it was tasteless on her part for saying such words about his fan club. Not many knew Izuki-senpai was held up here in this room but Suishoku found it strange that he still remained here. The man stood at the window looking very whole in form to her that something was amiss for him to still be here. Was he that gravely wounded at the shrine? Her head turned to look at the most out of place teddy bear near the bed in wonder of why was kind enough to send him that when Izuki spoke to her finally. For calling this summons a hindrance would be the last thing she would have described it. Strange and odd would have been better words with a word of thanks being second.

"It's not a hindrance, erm, Izuki-senpai," Suishoku replied quickly to show that she was paying attention. The second was how to address him. "What happened to your right eye?" Suishoku hardly caught a glimpse of his injured body when taken away so this was news to her. Her head followed the hitoriki as he moved from the window to his bed where he sat down finally. The head bandages over his right eye slowly became undone. Under his unkempt hair was discolored scaring flesh forming a neat line upon his eye. Izuki's act of trying to open it made her visibly wince at the attempt in empathy for the vital organ. This was also accompanied by a piercing look form this steel eyes; a look of impatience to match his words. Izuki-senpai doesn't have years and neither does Edo if it were to lose another one of its guardians.

"Do you believe you can help me like the Doctor claimed you can? It's fine if you don't believe you can Yuubae-San."

Suishoku ground the heels of her shoe into the titled floors as he asked this. Her mind quickly wondered what sort of doctor even recommended her. Nurse Aki? It was so odd to be recommended by someone she hardly knew but it has been this way since being chosen as an Elite. Now she had to act the part but Suishoku is still just a girl and student to the school. In this case, it was haphazard in finding the right behavior for each situation. The girl gauged the senior's composure before deeming it safe to leave the door entry to have a look at his eye in question. Kai sitting on the bed made this easy for her to be on the same eyelevel. The cut looked to have done down the eye lid and possibly deep enough to catch his retinas. This wasn't a good sign, she frowned while observing, and there were some stitches done as well. There really wasn't much to tell at face value.

"I don't know." Suishoku replied in a concerning soft voice while being inches away from Kai's face. If this were a situation outside of this meeting, she too would blush to be this close to the senior but now wasn't the time and neither was her mindset for being summoned here. Still, it was a marvel to wonder how he still managed to possess a fair complexion after being placed in this room for five days. If he were to take up a mask, Suishoku was certain he'd make his fan swoon with ease. "My healing has restored tissue thus far and helped the body with accelerated growth in repairing organs. For an eye though, it's not something I've practiced closely on." Suishoku need to be honest with Kai on this even if he may have gone out of his way to do a background research on her in his spare time. This was also to reinstate the relic's limitations to her. Regrown limbs are a fantasy of what her powers can do. The body doesn't just regrow limbs. "But, I have read that the eye is a strong organ and how it can heal minor scratches by itself." But scratches are minor things to have a sword cut. It must be doing as best as possible to recover but the deep wound can possibly infected or just too much to heal from. The worst case Suishoku feared was a complete loss of the eye as if it was taken out of the skull. That's something far beyond her and its unknown science to just regrow an eye since there's no such thing as eye seeds. So long as the organ is still there then something can be done.

"I'll do a test application," Suishoku started her plan of how to tend to Kai. Her plan consisted of slow steps to first test the waters if her abilities would be accepted at all. A dead organ would make this much harder for the both of them. "We can't tell of the full extent of the damage but can't risk the eye to exposure." Her fear that if Kai were to successfully open his eye lids and his eye rolled out dead to the floor in sickening pus and blood, Suishoku would no doubt scream in horror. It shamed her to think of a nightmarish thought and she shuddered in an attempt of throwing the very idea out of the hospital window. Her hand went into the inner breast pocket of her Elite uniform and produced the small sake cup. A relic in design for a woman's hand colored camellia red on the inside and the outside an ivory white.

There weren't many supplies in the room so she went to the side table to take a cotton ball from a supply jar then returned to his side. A sweet scent began to fill the room as the golden liquid started to pool into the sake dish as Suishoku sat on the bed side by Kai. She used the cotton ball in careful movements to dab at his face starting from the top of his scar, the bottom of his scar, and around his eye in slow sweeps so he can follow and feel what she was doing to him. Due to the slight alcohol in the liquid, it may have caused a small burning feeling around his eye as it soaked into his skin. When finished with the first application, Suishoku stop to observe Kai's reaction to the burning sensations from her relic’s tonic before attempting to apply another dab in the same manner; from the top, bottom, and around the wounded eye socket once more.

Kai sat still as she talked and looked over his injuried eye. The way she carried herself during these medical procidures was admirable. He could really see her getting comfortable with these sort of injuries. Part of him however, didn't like the thought of her getting used to this type of stuff. The war, the voilence, hell even the hsptials being filled with the injuried. He felt a small tug of guilty. He wondered if she resented him for allowing her to take part in the ELite year test. It wouldb;t be the first time a student had left him with resentful feelings. He's had a few students drop out of the program due to the stress of it all.

His good eye moved to look up at her as she got to work on his eye. He did his be st to keep still. He listened to everything she said with a solid unyielding blank look. She might be able to help him, this was better than nothing after all. He nodded at her. "Just do what you can. I'm in your hands." He spoke softly hoping his tone gave off complete trust. Trust, the thought of it made him feel uncomfortable, not towards Suihsoku, not at all, but to the world as a whole. Who could they trust now. For the enemy to get that close.. they had to have atleast someone on the inside.

He tore himself away from his dark thought to focus back on her closing his good eye as she applied the liquid to his wounded eye. It felt funny, a sort of weird burning sensation that he'd never felt before. THe relic around his neck pulsed a little as if reacting to it. He opened his eye and looked down at it. It looked as if it was glowing ever so faintly, so faintly in fact it may just be a trick of the light. He turned his attnetion back to Suihoku. She'd asked him how this had happened after all.

"Ahh, I'm not surprised you weren't aware of how this happened. It wasn't a very calm situation after all." He straightened himself a little as a wave of pain shot through him. It wasn't physical, it was emotional. It was rage, fear, sadness, and fury all wrapped into one burning sensation as the image of Masumi's fa falling to the ground haunted his mind once more. He tooka deep breath forcing it back for a moment before bringing himself back and answer her fully.

"I was injuried while I protected Kurome, the man.. who attacked us was going to kill or wound her... my body reacted on it's own. I'm quite.. protective over my Elites." He looked down his blue eye filled with more pain than any weapon could inflict. "Allies are hard to come by... and friends atleast in my line of work are all the rarer. That's why this happened. Because.... Because, I didn't want to lose anyone." His hands curled into balled fists as he stared at the blanket.

Of course, he'd failed in that hadn't he? He'd let Masumi die. He's let his brother pass away in front of him as he lay on the ground drifting into darkness! The pain welled up in him again and a single tear travelled down his face. A Hitokiri, a killer, THE assassin of assassins, was crying. But right now, in truth he was none of those things. He was Kai Izuki, a men who had lost part of his family in a random act of violence. Taking a shakey breaht he looked at her his voice now steady as if no emotion had been shown. "Forgive my lack of composure Yuubae-Chan... It's been taxing is all. My eye is already starting to feel better." He wasn't lying, the cronic pain in his eye had indeed started to lessen.

The relic on his neck slowly pulsed more. Kai wondered why, it's never acted like this before? Could it be because the wound was cause by a relic while he was using his own relic and it was now being mended by another relic. After all Scion on Scion combat was rare, well REAL combat was rare as most scions were controlled by the Shogunate who lead them with iron clad rules. He took a calming breath and tried to put the crazy theories behind him.

Being this close to Kai made it easy for her to make note of his eye and condition. The amount of trust he was giving was rather startling enough to make a small redness appear before taking this much more seriously. The man was tense and angry that she assumed he would be the same up close. That wasn't the case at all so Suishoku tried to relax and make this seem as routine as possible for the both of them. Her hand made pauses when it looked like the medication was stringing, so she wouldn't actually dab directly at his eye to make that mess happen, but it granted the medic track student to notice other things.

From his good eye was she able to see the emotions that stirred. The iris darkening and becoming glossy at times of something hurting inside. Many things had happen but this recent one may have been a clue. Their skirmish at the shrine and the loss of several men who accompanied them the whole way. She listened to him speak, her hands again pausing as she began to conjure a second dose after letting the first settle with repairing surface damage.

"Keep your head up," she softly instructed him and began applying the second dabbing as though marking around his eye with a carefully constructed seal from how her hand moved slow and precise. Gradually the man before her shrank from the fearsome hitokiri into someone more relate able. This may be the persona she ignored during her detention with him and it made her feel conflicted of what to do to offer comfort. "And...thank you for telling me. I couldn't tell what was going on ahead while managing with Masumi-san." Saying that man's name now made her unconsciously sigh at the vexing emotions about him. "What was he thinking..." she uttered in disapproval.

His breathing began to shaken so she stopped mid application, unawares of his relic acting strange with her attention more on his physically and emotional state. "Is something the matter...Izuki-san?" Was only right to drop the senpai honorifics now being an Elite and less so of a second year student under him. "We were both there...if it helps you, saying something may also help the emotional toll against your eye from healing more naturally." The emotional state of the body was an odd thing to wonder. Hurt keeps held back the healing process and good moods oddly improved it. It may also have been the strain of silence about the mission for so long that prompted this out of her. An offer to talk of things that could not be said.
