Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 06/01/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. Making friends and learning about Edo Culture is their current aim! In other news it is also time for the school dance event! Please bring your characters along!

"Hmm... more just to prove to yourself?" She asked, not understanding but having an idea. This guy sounded to be in a rough spot and just getting into Bugei wasn't good enough to validate much. She listened to him explain his worldly views, how he carried himself in this life, and much of it made her want to frown at him. She wanted to encourage him but knew that for just meeting, those words were just air. This wasn't just a time for hopeful words that lacked backup or lofty words of praise. Those need to be as grounded as Yemon's thoughts.

"Those are good choices," she then complimented with a nod. Becoming a diplomat or a spy would be easier to grant a more outside view of the world than just the current home base. "Consider possibly going into a service later on with a merchant or a foreign escort. A client that travels a lot would take you on a world tour if their business needed it." But in the end did their world in Edo did have some rules. The students may live an almost open college life of dorms and transport passes to go around Edo as they wished but not everything was free. This all came with being students of Edo Bugei. Teachers, Headmaster, and the Shogun all sat above their heads and any wrong doings would be treated as a crime or treason.

"Thanks. I can't waste their hopes but to be truthful, I'm not some insane hard worker aiming to be the Ace of anything. Just doing what I can to, ultimately, keep surviving. If not for the help found here then I would just be a traumatized first year." Suishoku smiled faintly. Her fears of the Shogun and being constantly watched as a Scion has gone down significantly to put up a more casual front but there wouldn't be words of love from living in Edo. Edo is safer for most of the time but it wasn't home.

"For teachers, if they look strict, expect a strict front from them. I've yet to meet an overly soft teacher who looked like a Shogun's general. If they expect you to learn, just do your best to take in the lesson. Some are nice like the sensei for language and kyudou or the school nurse. I would say the headmaster is as well but he's got his own front for maintaining the school and its ties to the Shogunate." Suishoku chuckled a bit and took a breath to mostly calm herself after memories of first year surfaced too much. She didn't want to appear desperate for ideas when it comes to the dreaded first student teacher lesson. "Still not sure. Maybe archery? Field rescue? Flower arrangement? Which do you think would interest you more, Yemon? Most Elite years train others in the profession of their weapon but I don't see many would want to join a lesson on that from me."

Speaking of weapons, Yemon had fiddled with that large case of his enough to unlock it. Her head started craning to get a view of its contents. Inside was a blade that had the shape of a sword but with a strange mini prong in the middle. Must be something to keep blades from getting to close to the wielder. The way he started to poke it in a shy manner made her worry if it was a relic. Worrying made her imagination wander a bit. Maybe it's a berserk relic or something! "Um... Is... something wrong with it? Do you need to see smithy? We have some student craftsmen over at the club building." Or broken. Yeah...maybe it's broken.

Yemon blinked as he looked at the future teacher. He brought a hand up to rub at his face to move anything else he had on it out of the way and sighed with a yawn. He thought about what was going on and just didn't really care much. "Flower arrangement seems fun, archery, is kind of useless when you can shoot someone with a gun. Field rescue seems a little above my pay scale for lack of a better metaphor." Yemon responded to her first inquiry.

"Merchant or a Foreign Escort, sounds like I'm destined for that smuggling business aren't I?" He joked and shifted as he looked at her and then back at his Zwei. He was always going to keep surviving, if only to make get in someone else's way at a later time. He found that to be one of the finer points of his life to be absolutely vague. Yemon wriggled his nose, instead of reaching over and scratching it from the drying sweat.

"Oh, this?" He asked and looked at the case again and then at miss Suishoku. "There's nothing wrong with it. I almost got it taken away by the authorities on my way here. Now I'm scared it's gonna vanish. It's not very interesting, it's just made using an entirely different style of smithing and was a gift. So I'd feel like a jerk if I did lose it. Other than that, it's just a sword with different practical applications." He said explaining his non-relic weapon. Yemon had never actually seen a relic.

"What were your classes like the past few years? Anything that seemed a little hard?" He asked, still trying to pick her brain for what he should look out for.

"I guess flower arrangement it is then. Thanks for the input, Yemon," she bowed her head a little in thanks. The vocal opinion honestly helped clear up much of her mental worries she tends to think herself into circles for. The whole process often times conflicted with what she could do but never in certainty if it would be something other students would want to do. Much like how basic first aid is taught to many students and combat training did working into those areas for additional classes felt redundant in hindsight of their daily lives.

He joked and shifted in his seat that she only hoped to have been in light of it. The thought came to her mind because of travel rather than due to his upbringing in Satsuma. Yemon went further to explain about his unique weapon choice and a brief story of how it nearly got taken away. "Did they really? Normally proof of being a student would be enough in most cases," Suishoku replied in a bit of shock. It's not the fault of the authorities though after the number of sleeper agents that turned on people during the Ikko outbreak some months ago made today's security more second guessing.

"Ah. Recently a close friend of mine helped make a new weapon for me after losing it some time ago so I can only sample some of that feeling." Which was true in that she'd feel rather disappointed in herself to not only lose a second weapon but one crafted by Roshi. If she could avoid it then it would be to make better efforts to prevent it from breaking too.

Suishoku continued to be a slight open book when talking to Yemon. Her emotions rolled on her sleeves when handling each question one at a time. "Oh, mostly lectures and practical work after second year. Once you are certain of what track you want to be do lessons tends to shift toward that. Otherwise you'll be stuck as a second year performing the chore academic classes and basic training. You're welcome to shadow in to get a feel of what the classes and goals are like but you'll never make progress without submitting in writing what you're planning to be. Oh, by the way, you're still free to change tracks after selecting one." Her finger raise and shook gently in the air to further highlight this point.

"In terms of classes, what you find hard is what your challenge would be. In an active example, my life before Bugei was being a citizen in Kaga. I lacked actual training and education outside of the standard public school in Kanezawa before coming here. Therefore, due to zero combat experience to speak of along with general historical and public speaking with superiors, I dreaded every class related to them. Missions done were also a crippling fear before being forced to get my act together. Now, no one really has to have a rude awakening to figure out what's needed to do but helping each other out would make for a slightly easier time here in Bugei."

Yemon shut the case again and stood up when Miss Suishoku was done with her in depth point of some variation on pick a specific course track. Yemon really had no reason to do that yet and honestly it was a bit out of his depth. If he thought he would survive, he probably would think about it a little harder. He gave the young woman a polite bow and nodded his head. "I appreciate all the information and time, but for now I feel like if I don't go get lost enough to find my way around. I probably wont make it to any of my classes on time." Yemon said before excusing himself.

"Thank you again, appreciate it. Helpful. I'm going to go explore the campus. Have a wonderful day." Then Yemon lifted the case and started walking out of the cafeteria, one hand in his pockets to pull out his headset and slide one into his left ear as he carried his case in his right hand. He was already humming something as he headed back towards the entrance of the main building, aiming to take a few random paths around the school in order to figure out what was up with the layout.

"Wait," she turned around in her seat as he got up and headed for the exit. "isn't that just more delays?" Suishoku wasn't too keen if he just wanted to be lazy or take his time but if he's out wandering around aimlessly on the campus then that was a concern to her. Taking her vase under her arm, she got up and jogged a bit before walking by their right side as they hummed. She wasn't fully believing they were just going to get a lay of the land while just roaming around.

"Look, at least understand that your first year classes are on the ground floor area. So there isn't much to it there," she attempted to reason to save maybe some time of them not arriving to class constantly late. "If you wanted a tour or something, it's not a problem. But there is something about you I'd like to know, if that's fine with you. Edo Bugei is, well, different but you didn't take offense about the whole smugging thing, did you?" The girl held the vase by it's polished lip while trailing along to make sure Yemon didn't find trouble. "What would you do if someone wanted to duel with you? Your weapon case would attract attention if you, say, went toward the Bugei club area. Those students are rather rowdy to experiment with anything new."
