Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Bu sat down on the bleachers next to the sparring ring and sighed with pure satisfaction. She reached over for her water bottle and took a sip before spraying it over her face. The cold felt really good in contrast against the hot bruises that were forming already. But even the sting of those were a pleasure of their own. Through crop top and work out shorts, her skin gave off a healthy glow, at least, the parts of it that weren't darkening with imminent bruising. But hey, that was why she even bothered in the ring.

It was getting harder to find people in her bracket to fight, not because she was good or anything, but because she tended to go a little wild. She enjoyed getting hit and enjoyed hitting back, it was less sparring and more actual fighting with her which meant that she didn't really want to go looking for people who were more skilled than she was either. The end goal was to share some bruises and have a laugh. Annoyingly, most people didn't want to laugh after a fight, more's the pity.

A little pain was the point after all. She sucked down a little more water. That was one reason she didn't practice with her artifact. She hadn't met anyone who could punch her consistently and make her feel it. That'd probably take a master or maybe another scion with super strength. There was that one little gang boy but he only managed like one punch in twenty. That wasn't enough to satisfy her. She really wanted to test her limits with her power, maybe unlock it's secret potential, and she wasn't going to get that sparring with normal people. In the meantime, she'd just take her hits like a regular soft person.

She set her water bottle down and picked up her hand towel, her hair comb slid onto the bleacher with a clink. She had probably done enough for today and she still wanted to run into town for some quick shopping. Bu began to towel her face, then her armpits, belly, and legs. Her gaze rose to watch some other kids sparring. She smiled, there really was nothing like a good fight. Shame they didn't really allow for big group fights. Ten on ten, five on one, could be fun just double teaming somebody, one to hold them down while the other pounded away. Her smile twisted into a smirk. Something a bit more realistic than the one on one swordplay the school liked to do. She wasn't very good with swords, give her a handful of razor blades or her bike chain any day.

Bu pulled the scrunch i.e. Off and let her hair cascade down her back. It was finally recovering after the nasty fight during the war. At least those were. Her upper arms from elbow to shoulder were still covered in burn scars. She removed the comb from the bench and slipped it up underneath her hair and twisted it into a long ponytail, clipping it in place. That was better, she still felt sore and that was good. It was one of the few ways she still could.

Ash wandered into the area with a look on his face that was akin to a kid on Christmas. Seeing the fighting and blood and sweat made him excited that he may find a strong opponent to test his abilities with. He stepped off to an area that had a few lockers and removed the upper body attire of his clothing, leaving it all in one of the lockers available. He moved over next to an empty ring and started to stretch his muscles. He started with his neck and worked his way down to his arms, back and so on.

He stepped into an empty spar area, and looked around to see if anyone wanted to have a quick match, but noticed that everyone around was either already beaten up badly, or they looked at him nervously, knowing what Ash does to people. He was known to frequent the training areas and sparing arenas, and quite a few people have either seen him fight, or had the misfortune of being on the receiving end of it in a spar.

To Bu, sitting in the bleachers, would see that everyone was giving Ash space and refusing to challenge him, and it was obvious that Ash was a little disappointed. He walked over to another person who was warming up and started asking them if they wanted to spar. They just shook their head and looked incredibly nervous before putting their hands up and backing away from him. Ash sighed and started to throw some warm up punches by himself.

Bu was starting to feel, not clean, but clear in the head. The afterglow was almost as fun as building up to the main event. Her eyes caught a figure moving around, an eager guy looking for a fight. Looked like nobody here was willing to give him one. Shame about that, people could be so cruel. Everyone deserved a chance to hurt for awhile. "Hey, hey you. Whipcord." she called to the black haired guy walking around and waved him over.

"You're late to the party, doncha know." she said, her Fukushima accent slightly coming out. "You come around ten minutes ago and you could have given me a bit of a spar." She pushed off with her hands and rose to stand. She ambled towards him. "Could have been fun, you look pretty strong." She grinned, flashing teeth. "You punch any good?"

He certainly had the muscles for it, and he'd gone straight to sparring rather than the usual weapon warm ups. The world needed more proper fighters, down and dirty in the dirt and mud scrapping. None of this boring guns and arrows. Heck, even if she accepted that a bit of pipe or length of chain was good, it wasn't as satisfying as flesh to flesh contact. "I already put my hair up though. More's the pity." She said, though with the subtle hint that she might be convinced to enjoy a bit of a fight anyway.

Ash walked over and listened to how he was a little late to some sort of party. He looked around for a second and saw no cake or party hats, as were traditional for that kind of thing. He decided not to make a point of it because it was sure to be a saying of some sort. He was then asked what kind of punch he could throw. He wasn't sure how to answer this question, because he didn't really....do........that.

He instead held his hand out for his soon to be opponent to shake it. If and when she took his hand, he would squeeze a spot in her hand that would send a small bolt of lightning up her arm. He would then answer, "Ash doesn't punch like people punch." Bu probably wouldn't feel it as pain, but more a reflexive need to pull her hand back that could be easily resisted, but would definitely be odd.

Well, this guy didn't seem to be the talkative sort. That was weird. But Bu could live with that, even if he wasn't the kind of guy who yakked your ear off, he might be a pretty good fighter. She could be loud enough for two people, she could be loud enough for a bunch of people depending on who you asked. If he wanted to act like the strong silent type, all that mattered was he could back up the strong side of it. Bu took his hand.

She didn't immediately regret it, not exactly. She felt that, felt it through her skin and up her arm. Rather than flinch away from it, as most might, she instinctively clenched down on his hand hard suddenly and hard. At the same time, a thin layer of stone seemed to grow from her skin and was just starting to spread over his fingers before she took control over herself again and pulled back. The little bit of stone fell away like a very fine layer of sand. "Damn, you ain't kidding. What the hell was that, some kind of magic power?"

Ash was taken aback just a bit when he felt the strength that this person had. He was less surprised when he saw the thing layer of stone. Ash can not help but see a Scion." He smiled. He was questioned about if he used magic or not. He had never been compared to another scion in his ability before and it tickled a funny-bone somewhere in him that he wasn't ready for. He tried to hold in his laugh, but ended up still letting out a small chuckle. "No, no, no. Ash does not have magic. Ash is not a scion like others, but has special..." he tried to remember the word knowledge, and muttered the Ainu word 'ram' a few times before blurting out, "Special smart!" He obviously meant knowledge or something along those lines, but was unable to think of the Japanese word currently.

"Ash can give you a demonstration, yes?" It was an invite to fight, and hopefully a clear enough one.

So he could talk properly, well, for a given value of properly. Maybe he was foreign or something and hadn't really learned the language, maybe he was just stupid. Whatever, didn't matter. Bu didn't mind an idiot, it wasn't like she had to babysit him after all. Or teach him anything either, seemed he knew enough to make the prospect of a fight an interesting one and probably very unpredictable. She grinned and tilted her head.

"Well, magic or not, you've got something going on with you. Ah think this could be a good bit of fun." She put her fingers together and cracked her knuckles. "But I suppose the question is, should I let my hair down for this." She considered his frame. "Maybe I let you choose. You say you can't punch very hard, so maybe I should go a little softer so you've got something that bends when you hit it." She focused a little and a layer of rock, thicker this time, grew from her skin to cover her arms up slightly past her elbows. Then she held it up. "Otherwise, you'll be hitting something a lot like this. Don't know if your not magic can handle it."

Ash could punch hard, but it wasn't in his normal fighting style. Punching was for dire emergencies, and he hadn't quite learned all there is to know about his fighting style, such as the legendary hammer fist or energy imparting. Both being very dangerous and possibly unobtainable techniques that Dim Mak practitioners use on tough opponents. Until Ash can spend years perfecting his art, he will have to settle with basic fighting.

Ash shrugged when he was asked preferences. "Ash must learn how to stop powers like that. Please fight how anun* will fight." He substituted an Ainu word for lack of the Japanese phrasing. He motioned for them to head down to one of the fighting areas, and would take up a defensive position that looked very relaxed for someone who was engaging with an unknown opponent such as this. He would wait for the first move and not be goaded or antagonized into attacking first.

*OOC: Ainu word of the day:

Anun (アヌン) - stranger, outsider; another person, someone else('s), not oneself, not one's own. Used to refer to someone other than themselves. (You, they, them, etc)

Bu shrugged, well this waswhat he chose so this was what she'd do. On the plus side, he had managed to do that thing to her arm even through her rather increased pain threshhold so maybe this foreign guy could give her something of a challenge. Plus, the bruises might give him that extra bit of leverage they would both need for a satisfying fight. Plus, she didn't often get to really test out the limits of her artifact, she wouldn't be testing them here exactly but she could practice the more find control aspects of it. She had been told that her lack of concentration was a detriment.

She walked to and onto the mats laid out for sparring while doing a few minor stretches. She made a rule for herself, she would fight the battle without stoning up once. After all, sometimes it wasn't appropriate to hit a person in the face with a brick. She smiled at Ash and bowed. Plus, that thin grit always seemed to be an obvious tell that she wanted to punch a person. It made cheap blows harder to pull off. She stepped back into sparring position and...he didn't attack. "Another one?" she muttered. Well that was fine, she'd just have to start off. Bu lunged looking to get a good grip on his shoulders and pull him down into a rising knee.

Ash watched as his opponent stepped into the arena. He watched her carefully, trying to get a gauge on her body language. From an outside perspective, he was checking her out as if getting ready to flirt with her, but it was much more complex inside of his head. She bowed, and he came out of his stance for a second to return the bow himself, before moving back into the same relaxed form he was in before.

He saw a lunge start, and her hands went to his shoulders. He countered by raising his arms between hers, and slapping them away, disrupting her attempt to hold his shoulders. He lightly jabbed a palm strike at Bu's stomach immediately afterwards. The gentile nature of it would lead Bu to either thing that he was exceptionally weak, or he was intentionally holding back.

The guy knew what he was doing which was kind of expected. A lot of kids at the school had some fighting training even before they had shown up. Even Bu had some experience, but that was in her own special style of back alley brawling. It was a reckless style and her efforts to hop back to avoid the blow to her stomach were not effective, but she didn't even feel it so she assumed he had just missed.

But every fighting style had a weakness, she had to find his and to do that, she just went all out chasing her strengths. Bu jumped up for a flying drop kick to his chest,. There was no landing strategy, she'd just take the landing hard, that was one of the big benefits of her artifact, after all, no bracing meant you didn't telegraph what came next and what came next was Bu sweeping her legs around like a scythe to try and drop Ash. The leaping kick had just been to get him off balance, her real goal was to get him on the ground for the really up close and personal trading blows.

Ash was fine with intercepting the kick to his chest, holding his arms in a blocking pose as she connected her blow. He wasn't prepared for the next attack which swept from the side unexpectedly. It struck him in the shoulder area and definitely knocked him off balance. He wasn't sure what was going to come next, but he needed to find some way to gain the upper hand again. He used the unbalancing strike against him and fell to the ground, rolling as he did so. This put him right back up on his feet.

He braced himself and watched carefully to see if he could find another opening as before. He wasn't very far away from his opponent though, and this would give him a lessened reaction time to whatever Bu was going to throw at him next. His mind raced, though he kept telling himself to stop and pay attention, he knew a cluttered mind would lead to his defeat. He readied himself for another strike, moving back into his defensive stance. Scions are tough.

Bu leaped over to where he'd landed to straddle him but he'd moved over and back to his feet. She quickly scrabbled up towards him. This guy wouldn't stay down. Maybe somebody had warned him or something about the danger of grappling with a self proclaimed bad ass pit fighter type like her. He also wasn't doing much to come back at her. That was annoying too. Where was the fun if she didn't come out of the fight with her own share of bruises? Where was that weird magic hand stuff he'd done before? Well, if he wasn't going to come at her properly, she'd just have to hit him even harder.

Bonus was, they were a lot closer now. She swung several times, big, heavy hooks at his head and shoulders as she pushed even closer. She was, even more than usual, sacrificing defense for offense and relying on her artifact to keep her up. She wasn't silent either, her breathing had gone from a hiss through clenched teeth to a low, almost animalistic growl. When was this going to be fun?

Ash took one of the hooks to the side of his head. Time seemed to stand still for a second, but he quickly readjusted and snapped back to reality. He then swore to never get hit by one of those again. He saw another hook coming his way, and moved into a grapple, enough games. He used some leverage and his opponent's momentum to attempt to throw Bu over his shoulder, attempting to slam her into the ground.

If he managed to succeed in this, he would follow it up with a rather strong palm strike to her face while she lay on the ground. He would also hold her arm in the best arm-lock he could manage from the position to attempt to keep her from getting back up easily. It was a bit complex, but it may at least show her that play time was almost over, and he was starting to show some of his more powerful skills.

A solid connection and to the face. Maybe that would wake him up but no time for that. If you weren't there at the start, you weren't gonna get another chance to come back in. This would teach him to go easy on her and so Bu kept up the stream of attacks. It seemed like she had, indeed, woken up the beast inside as he grabbed her arm and she felt herself leaving the ground. That was always a weird sensation that she never quite got used to. But then she landed hard. That was one she was very used to.

It sent a mild shock through her, mostly through the bruises she had gathered earlier. But she was already getting up as a second blow took her in the face. To Ash, it would feel very different than smashing something as soft as flesh, even muscular flesh. The cartilage and flesh of the nose didn't warp like usual, it was more like hitting a hard modeling clay. It gave way under his hands but slowly, less willingly, and with a lot more force.

Her head smacked back against the ground and she felt him grappling her down into an awkward arm bar. She started to laugh. This was more like it. She brought her free arm in and up to split his legs and pushed herself back with her legs, rotating to let off that pressure from her locked arm. Sure, she was still on the ground wrapped up with this guy but she had been trying to get here in the first place. Time for the good old fashion, rolling street brawl.
