Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 04/01/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. They have come to learn more about the state of Japan, the Shogunate, and it's Scions. We will be having a Lunar New Year's celebration, a school dance, and a combat tournament with them!

Ash went along with the way that Bu took him to the ground. He did his best to control the way he fell, allowing him to attempt to slide into a choke hold that would slowly black her out. He wasn't sure if the stone armor that she could produce would effect it or not, but it was his best shot at shutting the fight down quickly.

It was odd for him to fight an opponent so resistant to flat out pain, and he had thoughts to start resorting to nerve attacks to see if they had any effect. He noted that upon their first interaction, her rock skin reacted to pain, so maybe the nerve strikes would be more effective compared to attempting a hold like this.

His fighting style dictated that this was the worst position to be in, and that one must never allow themselves to be on the ground, but at least he had some mild training in that from long ago in Hokkaido.

Ha, she'd gotten him on the ground. This was pretty much victory, right? She had Ash directly where she wanted him. But, technically that wasn't true. He had a tight hold on her, mostly her neck which was kind of important. She needed that for talking and eating and breathing. Her laughter was cut off. Especially breathing. It was fine, this was fine. She just had to not panic and take a deep breath...wait, she couldn't do that. Shit.

Wait, she thought as her vision was starting go fuzzy at the edges. This was just like with the metsuke. He'd been strangling her too. Bu grinned. It was a nasty grin to a nasty memory. She brought her fist down toward his crotch with a good amount of force. A dirty move but a good one against, let's say, half of the people she might be fighting. If that didn't work, she could always go for the squeeze.

All ash could do was wheeze out an 'oof' sound as her fist encountered a tender region of his body. He tried to maintain his grip but he loosened it. He couldn't think past the blinding pain in his stomach from the referred pain of his poor neathers. He tried to shake it off, and could manage a simple plan of let go and roll away, which he did to the best of his ability.

This put a small amount of distance between him and her, and he stood up very unstably, but well enough to prepare himself to defend again. He took a deep breath and tried to simply ignore the pain as hard as it was to do so. He looked a big strained to stand, and his legs weren't in perfect stance, more together than they should be.

"Ash thinks you fight dirty." This was all he could think to say right now through the aching pain in his lower region.

He let go, that was a blessed relief. She couldn't let the chance escape, couldn't let him get back up. Bu tried to grab hold of him but everything was still spinning. strange and distracting lights were dancing in front of her eyes. By the time they had faded, he was already a few steps away. Bu groaned and coughed up a few times between deep gasps for air.

She spat onto the ground and turned to look up at him, her face plastered with a grin despite her chest heaving. After what felt like another eternity, she managed a reply. "Ash is right about that." She coughed again. She was going to be sore around the neck tomorrow, that's for sure. Oh well, more lessons helped her figure out what she didn't know. "A proper gentleman would wear protection when he's with a woman, you know." She pushed herself back to rest on her knees almost like a seiza.

Ash would normally in a life or death situation have not let go, and even more so, would not let this opportunity pass. Even as he looked over his sitting opponent, his mind told him to end the fight with kicks, punches, and other various ways to end the fight quickly in theory. This was a spar though, and even if his opponent would fight dirty, he would not stoop to such levels.

Ash didn't know what kind of protection Bu was talking about. His mind went straight to sex ed, always wear protection, and he couldn't help but say, "What good would a...as you say........condom...be? We are not making love..." Ash had a puzzled look on his face, knowing something was off about the conversation at hand, but not having enough grasp on the language to know what it was.

Bu snickered and leaned backwards slightly. What an absolute hoot. "That's the joke, doncha know." She held her pointer finger up to the left side of her face. "It sounds like we're talking about fucking." She moved her finger to the other side. "But Ah'm actually talking about wearing some armor or padding or something." She put her hands together and cracked her knuckles. "We're not fighting for points or to show off how flashy our moves are." Though they kind of were fighting to show off.

"All those kids out there, they're all about the honor." She waved vaguely in the direction of the main school building. "I don't know if they think there's going to be some civilized war in the future or something, but here in the real world, we've got nasty traitor monks who blow themselves up when they lose, attack out of ambush, and generally don't fight fair." She brought her hands up and brushed them lightly against the burn scars on her upper arms.

"Outside of the national defense, we've got yakuza who will shoot you down in the street or gut you as you pass by. We've got corrupt metsuke who will shoot you in the ass once you finish the mission they hired you for." She raised the leg of her work out shorts to reveal the bullet scar on her thigh. "And then you have the every day danger of getting mugged, attacked by an animal, and who knows what else." She pushed herself into a standing position and cricked her neck.

"You didn't kick me in the face. Ah was wide open." She was feeling clearer now, oxygen had returned. "So we can call this a draw or we can actually throw some real pain around. Your choice."

Ash had relaxed slightly during the conversation, but hadn't let his guard down. "Do not mistake that if this was real fighting, there would have been a footprint on that face." Ash understood the difference between a spar and an actual life or death struggle. If that was the case, even when he was punched in the crotch, he would have never let go so he could finish the job there and then.

Ash sighed to himself. His fighting style could do real damage and he was warned against using any real power with it unless it was an active enemy. Reluctantly he replied to her offer. "We can do the real pain, if you think can handle." If she accepted his offer, he would shift into a new stance that looked similar to his original defensive stance, but to a very trained eye it was definitely not the same.

Bu shrugged. It was real enough for her. You fought until somebody gave up and then you went and did whatever, smoke, drink, scare pedestrians, the usual. If you didn't fight for real, you never knew what was good and what wasn't. "Ah don't know if Ah can handle it. That's why we're fighting." She frowned. "Look, Ashy boy, Ah don't need some man telling me what I can and can't handle."

Bu pushed back and rose up to her feet. People never seemed to take her as seriously as she wanted. It always devolved into insults, mostly her trying to set them off. Maybe they could sense her past somehow, maybe they thought she was still soft. She wasn't soft, not anymore. She was stone and a stone cold badass to boot. "Ah'm ready and willing to find my own limits, thank you very much." She shifted into a fighting stance as well, though hers was basically the same as it ever was. "Make it hurt."

As she rose up, and ut of his normal character, Ash decided to make an attack. He moved forward very quickly and feinted an attack towards Bu's face. He would follow it up with a strike directed at a painful nerve cluster that ran under her arm to a degree. It was one that would cause some pain, but mainly would cause a tingling and weakness in whichever arm was more open to the strike after his feint, as if someone cut off the blood supply in it.

She wanted pain, he would try his best to bring it. Attacking nerves in the way he was taught long ago would be the quickest and most direct way to do that as well.

He was on her like a flash, it was a surprise but Bu didn't have much time to process any kind of useless thought like that. He struck and struck hard, not to mention it was in such a precise spot. She instinctively lifted her arms to block her face when he caught her under the arm. It felt...odd. Like when he'd done the thing to her hand before. It sent tingles up and down her right arm.

Well, no crying over spilt milk. She threw the arm out in a wildly uncontrolled flail towards his head while her left hand reached up and outward to grab him by the shirt and pull him in close again. If she could bring him to the ground again, maybe she could get him flailing around instead. That would put an end to his precision attacks.

The poorly articulated strike towards his face was easily by simply moving his head out of the way. As far as the arm that tried to grab at him, he luckily made the good decision to leave his upper attire in the locker before he began, knowing that people would try to take advantage of his loose, fuzzy tribal attire. He was able to reach his right arm up and slap Bu's hand away, before following it with a strike to her jugular veins with both his hands, disrupting the blood flow to her head for a brief time in an attempt at a quick but very temporary blackout.

Ash was solely trained in hand to hand combat, and it would be apparent that it would take more than just a street brawler to overtake his fine tuned skills. Even still he was one mistake away from taking a fist to the face. On top of this, if a stone armor began to form on his opponent, it would shut down his hand to hand combat almost completely.

He was quick, too quick. She was having trouble keeping up which was pissing her off more and more. Not to mention that she was actually being inhibited by whatever it was he was managing to do. Sure, she'd asked for this but she'd been expecting something a bit different. Mostly what she was expecting was pain and a lot of this was not actually hurting, in fact, it was deadening instead of sending flaring pulses of pain. She had enough of that with the artifact active.

The strike to the neck was weird, she saw stars and everything kind of flashed. She took a step back, sagging. Suddenly, she kicked forward and brought both arms up and around to catch whatever limb attack was coming her way. Her dense protection had prevented full effect and saved her from a black out. Now she just had to follow up on the feint.

Ash felt as though he had the advantage to end the fight, and tried to go for a specialized uppercut. His palm was open and his thumb and forefinger were in a U shape, attempting to strike her windpipe. He knew this wasn't allowed in a spar by orders of the academy, but she wanted to fight for real. However, her arms came from nowhere and caught his attack in mid strike.

He stood there in surprise for a few seconds, he wasn't expecting this and wasn't ready with another attack of any kind, giving valuable recovery time to Bu. He wasn't happy with how this fight was going, used to finishing fights in a few strikes with normal civilian criminals and non-scions. Fighting scions, especially one so defensive oriented with unfortunately strong attacks, was difficult.

She got him. She felt her arms trapping his and gripped tight. There wasn't time to do much, after all, this was a lucky grab. She was also still blurry from the strikes to her neck to be confident in dropping him to the ground for another close grapple fist fight. So, squeezing down, she pivoted around on her back foot and threw her weight up and back.

She was pretty strong for a girl of her size but Ash was a big, muscular dude. She wasn't going to be able to lift him. But if she could send him off balance, maybe send him rolling across the ground, that would be a boon so she could shake off whatever that hit had done to her. She let go and hop-skipped back while trying to shake some sense back into her brain and get the blur out of her eyes.

Ash was pulled off balance, but not completely. He was able to recover and got back into an aggressive stance. Seeing his opponent with her arms still up in defense trying to shake off his latest stunning blow. He would try to think of a good way to end the fight, but knew that her defenses would make it difficult. He would approach Bu and grab her around the middle in a hug-like way, before performing a hip throw and smashing her into the ground again.

If she hit the ground, he would curl his fingers into a fist and strike her temple, trying for a quick knockout, but almost sure that it wouldn't work.
