Sweat dripped from her brow as she stabbed out. Her breathing was a bit labored. Pain raced up her shoulder, and she winced. She stopped and steadied herself. It was a bit late, which was perfect in this case. Normally she didn't mind practicing or training around others. But after the attack on the Shogunate...she couldn't bring herself to let others see what had happened to her. It wasn't like it was shameful or anything. But she was still a woman, and still had a lot of pride in her appearance. Now...she felt almost like a leper.

The doctors did an amazing job. She never doubted that, nor was she mad at them. The fact that her skin was merely discolored, instead of a throbbing nasty looking scar was testament to their skill. Still, it was enough for people to instantly notice. She bit her lip as she moved over and sat down on one of the benches. She had taken to practicing when no one was in for that reason. She didn't want people to be put off by such a thing. It covered the top of her left should and a bit of the front and back of it. It then traveled up her neck, and onto her face.

Thankfully the hair hadn't been completely damaged and it was growing back. Small mercies really. But then, she had expected to lose the eye and even the ear in her, rather stupid, attack. The fact that her left eye was a slightly lighter color due to the damage was fine. It hadn't been damaged in any real way, well in any way that impaired her vision. It seemed like she merely got off with discoloration. The real problem was that for now, she was still in a bit of constant pain. Which she thought some training would help get over it.

So here she was, in one of the practice gyms. Hair pulled back, to keep it out of the way. She was bare foot, wearing some plain cargo pants, and a tight fitting sleeveless shirt with no mid-rif. She had a wooden replica of her weapon, something she had had made by an artisan. She needed to be as close to her actual weapon. She took a drink of the bottle of water and damped the towel across her before stepping back on the mat for another hour of working out.

She took a deep breath. She exhaled, and fought down a swirl of emotions. Everyone got nervous their first time on stage. This wasn't nerves, this was a swell of pride. She knew...she knew she was out there, in the crowd gathering around the stage. The last act had finished, and it was her turn. This was what she had wanted. She had done acts, plays, and even song in front the student body dozens of times in her three years at being the Edo Bugei. But tonight was beyond special, it was magical.

Somewhere in the crowd, Sayuri's little sister was standing there. She was going to see her big sister up on stage, for the first time ever. A tear streaked a bit down her cheek, and she wiped it away with the back of her hand. She breathed in through her nose, and exhaled through her mouth again. Her breath misted a bit, in the slightly cold air. It just reminded her how cold it was in her outfit. It was a variation on the female school uniform, with a slightly longer skirt, and bit more ruffles and lace, knee high leggings, and a better sense of color.

She laughed inwards at that. She spun a bit and enjoyed how the skirt swished a bit more. It hadn't taken the costume department much provoking to make such a thing, they seemed to enjoy her coming in and requesting things now and again. As the announcer gave Sayuri her introduction, she clicked back into professional mode and strode onto the stage. She bowed and thanked the teacher, before taking the microphone.

"Goooood evening EDOOO!" Her voice carried through the microphone and out through the speakers, they had been tuned so even the people at the far back could hear the singers up on stage. She smiled at that. It never failed to thrill her, knowing that people wanted to hear songs....her songs even.

"It's been a...very difficult year. The Earthquake and loss of classmates, friends, and family. The attack on the Shogun, and the loss of another classmate...and the injuries suffered by those who fought." She nodded her head, feeling a pang of shame there. She wasn't really a fighter, and hadn't been asked to go on the escort mission.

"But...we are strong. This new year, we pledge ourselves to get stronger. We will all strive to reach our goals, no matter the tragedy." She smiled, not sure if she was getting to the audience or not.

"Many of the students from the Bugei know me, or have at least heard of me. I am of course referring to the name that's spread, Princess Snow Black. I don't mind, I have even taken the name as something to be proud of. Many believe me to be a rock of strength, even though I'm not a Scion. Many might look up to me." She exhaled, trembling a little. She could already feel her own emotions bubbling over.

"However, tonight...there is someone very very special to me in the crowd. Someone who fills me with strength. Someone who's own strength allows me to give voice to my emotions, and sing my heart." She looked out into the crowd and smiled, knowing she was there right then and there. "This song is dedicated to you."

She took a step back and sighed, mastering her emotions. As the piano begin, her voice rang out into the cold evening.

"Someone calling you. Someone calling you. Can't you hear the voice?" She took a breath. "Now it's time to go. Can't you hear the voice? Now it's time to go. Show your bravery." As the music switched and shifted, and the guitar rift tore through, she switched the mic off and tossed it aside. The curtains came up and the rest of the band was there, as she began to dance. Her voice cutting in, but it was the movement of her body that was her own focus.

Sayuri actually prefers her school uniform, finding it comfortable and rather fashionable. When occasions call for it, she will put on a full kimono with the Uesugi clan symbol emblazoned on it. She generally stays away from it, as it feels a bit snobbish to her...and is too restrictive. Other than that...anything that flows and spins well suits her dancing needs, and to a lesser extent her martial arts.

She also tends to wear glasses when in her room alone, giving her eyes a rest from the constant contact use.
OTHER: A small scar on the bottom left of her stomach.

Sayuri at first seems a little aloof, like she's too good for most people. An heir of unapproachable nobility surrounds her, though she actually really isn't. It's the sort of status one gains by being the best at what they can do, and being rather pretty doesn't help. In fact she feels quite lonely sometimes, by how some students treat her. Like she's some sort of super idol that must be worshipped, and not approached. In reality...she is an extremely caring and compassionate person. She would gladly do anything for someone if they asked.

Her greatest passions are singing and dancing. Whenever she is on stage performing she feels as if she could take a single step, and begin to fly. Following her own dreams, even against the wishes of her family, is what drives her onwards. The only thing that exceeds that, is her unbridled love for her little sister. She'd gladly face the scorn and hate of her entire family, face down a raging storm, and fight a Scion as long as her sister is happy and stands beside her. She is the one she derives all her strength from.

Conversely anyone that hurts, threatens, or insults her sister would feel her unending wrath and hatred. She has been arrested on a few occasions for severely beating bullies that had picked on her sister. She has garnered a nickname from the color of her hair, her (apparent)icy demeanor, and singer of "Kuroyukihime" (Black Snow Princess). A title and nickname that she has taken upon herself.
STRENGTHS: Caring and kind, strong willed, confident.
WEAKNESSES: Her love for her sister, her compromised organ system, her inability to be told she can't do something,
LIKES: Singing, Dancing, Her Little Sister
AMBITIONS: Become a world famous entertainer

WEAPON: Open Hand
Styles: Sayuri has become adept in several martial arts. Namely that of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu and Tai Chi. She has adapted these to work with her entertainment style, making them into dances.

FAMILY: (If you have faceclaims in mind please note them.)
• Uesugi, Itto father
• Uesugi, Yae mother
• Uesugi, Mizuhana little sister (playable)

Sayuri was born in Niigata, a healthy baby girl. From birth she had always had a strong will and determination. Traits her mother and father were extremely happy to cultivate. They wanted an heir of unquestionable standing and authority. What they would end up with, was someone that despises them. Something they could never plan on.

While she was an exemplary daughter in every definition of the word, it would be the birth of her little sister that would change all that. Mizuhana was born sickly, and was considered to be too weak to be useful to the clan. However, from the very moment Sayuri saw her little sister she fell in love. She believed whole heartedly that as the elder sister she had to do everything in her power protect her little baby sister. Everything. She began to openly defy her parents, running to the hospital to stand vigil of her little sister, until she was forcibly removed. When her sister came home she made every effort to interact with the small little baby.

Sayuri and Mizuhana grew so attached that their parents were afraid that Sayuri would somehow become corrupted. When Mizuhana fell deathly ill, her family had thought to let her pass. Sayuri could not believe it, and ran away from home. She disappeared at night and ran all the way to the hospital to sit at her little sister's bedside. She was shocked, to Mizuhana fighting every minute for her life, for her right to live. It was Sayuri who stormed into the doctor's personal office, demanding that he take her kidney to save her sister. It was in direct opposition of her parent's wishes, and when they found out she was there they rushed there to take her away.

However, Sayuri would not leave peacefully. Kicking, screaming, and throwing curses loud enough to disrupt the entire hospital. The little 11 year old girl stood her ground screaming out that if no one else would, she would sacrifice everything for her little sister. She demanded, red faced and teary eyed, to be the donor to save her. The doctor's couldn't really refuse, as they were a match, and any longer of a wait could see the little girl perish.

By the end of the night, two small girl's shared in the experience in being cut open. By the end of the week, both girls were healthy enough to return home, and one doctor lost his job. From that point on, Sayuri shielded her sister at every twist and turn, and the two were completely inseperable. However, just because Mizuhana had made a recovery did not mean that her parents accepted her fully as part of the family. But it didn't matter, the sisters had each other.

In order to seperate them, Sayuri was sent to the Edo Bugei. There her parents had hoped that she would learn control and restraint, and become a fine warrior to take over the Uesugi clan. Instead, Sayuri spent her time perfecting her favorite thing, her voice. Half way through the first year, she had thoroughly impressed her classmates and many teachers. She was a natural singer and developed faster than most.

At the Bugei she was forced to take combatitive lessons as well, but was allowed to take what she wanted. To that end, she developed a passion for martial arts, specifically forms that enhanced her dancing. It's fair to say that dancing and martial arts are no longer separate things for Sayuri, both being accentuated by her grace and agility. It was during the second year that she earned the title Kuroyukihime.

It was during her third year that she gave the biggest slap to her family. They had found one of their precious relics, and tried to force a test on Sayuri. She lied and accepted it, only at the last moment passing it off to Mizuhana, without ever touching it. The relic reacted to her little sister, a ploy Sayuri had gambled on. She didn't know if it was because of her kidney inside her little sister...or if she truly was the match for it. Neither of those factors mattered to her though, now her family HAD to acknowledge the little girl they had given up on.

Now they would be together at Edo Bugei.
BODY TYPE: Average, but well muscled
Yuriko prefers whatever is fashionable, and loves to show it off. At least when out on the town. Normally she just prefers blue jeans and a blouse, or something casual. Having to wear stuffy clothes always bothered her, and she especially dislikes kimonos. It takes a rather special occasion to force her into one. Her colors are generally very dark blues, or reds, especially vivid reds.
OTHER: Has a few scars around her body, but nothing really noteworthy. She has plans for a tatoo whenever she reaches her goal. Other than that, she tends to wear an odd
SPECIAL OUTFIT: Phoenix Outfit

Yuriko is bright and cheery. She prefers being the nice girl everyone admires, a sort of queen. Unlike most school queens, she isn't cold or dismissive, and is extremely friendly. She prefers to lend a hand to newcomers, and genuinely wants them to feel welcome. She is so open that she just gives anyone her cell-phone or even her e-mail address if they need to ask questions. However, she has a very noble attitude in the regard to power. She firmly believes that those with power have an obligation to the safety of those without power.

In combat she's a bit different. She treats it as if it's her own personal stage, loving the thrill of it all. She loves to jump head first into the enemy, and blaze a trail for other's to follow. It's almost as if she doesn't care about her personal safety, which is fairly true. However, her fluid combat style and heavy training lends itself to her style.
STRENGTHS: Yuriko is extremely commited to her friends, and comrades. She is more than willing to stake anything and everything on someone she holds dear. She is extremely confident in her martial trainingand prowess, lending itself well to her ultimate goal.
WEAKNESSES: Yuriko can not back down from a challenge, no matter how small or even how stupid it might be. It's something of a pride issue with her. Yuriko has issues with formulating plans at all, and will usually do something stupid or spontaneous to dodge the question of an overall strategy. In that regard...shes a bit of a terrible commander.
LIKES: Sashimi, and fresh salt-air
DISLIKES: Ohagi, and curry
AMBITIONS: To replace her father as head of the Kuki clan, and to be called the Dragon of the South.

If you'd like to be a traditional student you may delete everything in this section after "weapon"
WEAPON: A rather simplistic bladed stave that is compatible with both spear styles, and naginata styles, while also allowing for fighting combat as if it were a bo. Being of the Kuki clan, Yuriko naturally prefers the Kukishin-ryū style that her ancestors created.
RELIC: A simple lord's fan, with writing across it. Stretch forth your hand and grasp the eternity before you. Let the Heavens fall before your power.
RELIC OWNER: Kuki, Yoshitaka
OWNER HISTORY: Kuki Yoshitaka (1542 – November 17, 1600) was a naval commander during Japan's Sengoku Period, under Oda Nobunaga, and later, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. He was also the ninth headmaster of the Kuki family's school of martial arts, Kukishin-ryū and thus a very skilled warrior. Yoshitaka would fight on the side of the Toyotomi's at the battle of Sekigahara, and would later commit seppuku after the loss there.
Crimson Flash: A quick thrust forward, the increased speed actually causes the tip of the weapon glow red hot. This allows increased armor penetration. (One turn cooldown.)
Kindling the Dragon's Fury: For three posts, Yuriko's spear is actually on fire. This causes no harm what-so-ever to the wielder, however the same is not true for everything else. This can easily catch clothes, hair, and even wood to catch fire. Worse still is the horrendous wounds it leaves behind on those who catch the business end inside of them.(Three turn cooldown.)
Heaven Crushing Dragon: Yuriko launches herself into the air, where herself and spear become a blaze. When she plumets back down to the earth, she releases an explosion of flames. This expands out and up to a 20 foot radius sphere.(Five turns cooldown.)
PASSIVE 1:
Dragon's Eye: Yuriko is able to perceive the location of all hostiles within a 10 foot radius of her. Those with stealth based abilities are immune from being perceived by this, however...if one could be seen with the naked eye Yuriko can perceive them. Even if they are in a technical blind spot. Hostiles are those that are actively trying to cause harm to Yuriko. This ability is not entirely visual based, and can work off of hearing or even smell.
PASSIVE 2:
Dragon's Pulse: Yuriko is able to passively heal her own wounds via the flames inside her. Her wounds cauterize, and even stitch themselves a bit as the flame cleanses her. However, this actually causes even more pain to her. Simple scrapes and bruises can be healed all easily within in a single post, while cuts and stabs would take anywhere between 2-3 posts based on their severity. Internal organ and bone damge can not be healed, nor fatal strikes.
Dragon Strike: Yuriko drags her spear across the ground, drawing sparks before swinging it and pointing in a direction. As she raises it, flames lick and pour forth the tip of the blade being drawn the diretion she's pointing. The flames take shape into a mighty dragon that roars out and flys in the direction pointed. The dragon is 6 feet across and 20 feet long. It passes through solid objects and allies without harm, and travels for a full 100 feet in a single direction before disappearing. All enemies caught inside are subjected to flame and heat in the range of 300 degrees.

Yuriko was born on the 5th of December, in Toba Castle. The first daugther of the Kuki main family, and heir to the Clan. A bright girl from the start, she was raised like any heir...given all the privileges one would expect. She was taught from a young by mentors, scholars, and priests about all the responsibilities she'd have. Her father devoted a lot of time to teaching her the Kukishin-ryū, a family martial art school. She surprised many by how quickly she grasped the concepts and tenets, making them her own. While heavily home-schooled, she loved going out and about, and was even allowed to have friends outside of the family. She enjoyed playing with the other kids, and would often bring stuff the other kids could not get from their families.

While she was a prodigy in the martial aspect, she was a bit of a failure as a strategist. Lacking the strategical thinking and forethought of her ancesters, and her father, she made up for it with sheer determination and spirit. Not exactly what her father would've hoped for, but it worked for the most part. Then her mother gave birth to another daughter, when Yuriko was 12. By then, she was old enough not to get jealous of a new sibling, and actually bonded quite well. Yuriko became a very loving and doting older sister, spoiling the girl as best she could. It was at the age of 14 when they tried their luck with the family's relic.

To almost no one's shock...she resonated with it. This was exactly what her father wanted, giving him an even bigger reason to ship her off to the Edo Bugei. He hoped that the school would be able to do a better job of teaching her how to strategize and become a better leader. The fact that she resonated with the relic only heightened his need to make sure she became the leader they needed. Yuriko's own reasoning was a bit vain, wanting personal glory, and her name to be known across the width and breadth of the Empire. She understood the fact that this would also mean even greater responsibilities, but that was just part of the reason to have such a power.

Yuriko was dispatched to the Edo Bugei for training. To her it was a lovely time to blossom, to the school was a time of annoyance and boredom for her. While she maintained average scores, she did not excel in any one particular field. She was not a star student, but she wasn't a bad one either. She was a good student, but more so she was great classmate. She enjoyed being surrounded by others her age, and prefered the interconnection between the students. She was however, quite good in the martial aspects, easily able to change how she attacked using her weapon of choice, due to her family's martial arts.

It was her talent in that regard that would help her promote to the 2nd year. It was during a not-so routine mission where she held her ground, defending a squad of medics. Having been injured, she was sent back to be healed and rest. There some bandits had gotten around the main push, and were going to strike at the relatively unprotected medic camp. Injured and exhausted already, Yuriko took up her weapon and held her ground against superior numbers of foes, till reinforcements could be brought to them. This achievement allowed her to move up to the 2nd year.

As of late, Yuriko has been gone from the school due to a rather rapid decline in her father's health. She has spent the last few months there, helping to tend to the Clan as their head seems to be coming closer and closer to his final hour.
