Bou, Kire of the Ikeda Clan
BODY TYPE: Thin and muscular
STYLE: Kire prefers the warmth of a long and thick coat over pretty much since, having grown up working the forge, he is used to things being very hot. He generally wears the school uniform underneath it though. When he works in the forge he forgoes his coat and also his shirt because he thinks he looks better topless. He also has several dozen pairs of mirror shade glasses that he will wear whenever he feels proud of himself, which is often. These glasses are also corrective lenses so are the only way he can actually see. He has, so far, refused to tell anyone this and thus fails to take adequate notes in class when he's told to take them off.
OTHER: Kire has a large number of small burn scars on his arms and chest from his work on the forge. He also tends to have bumps and bruises from recent combat practice where he failed to block a most attacks.
Kire believes that some people are naturally born superior to others and that they need a few pegs knocked out from beneath them. He doesn't like people who claim power due to the luck of the draw and is even less pleased when they can back it up with adequate skill. Kire would never voice these opinions aloud of course. That would go against his mission to bring about a new equality and they'd probably beat him up. But he doesn't mind taking his frustrations out on would be bullies who fit. He can be self absorbed though, quite often to the point of ignoring people who are explaining why he's blatantly incorrect in his own assessments. Of course, he will relentlessly lecture anybody he feels is not doing something properly that he can do, like smithing or plotting revenge.
He does love his work, each creation he makes on the fires of the forge is a child to him. He doesn't like selling them. His muse is an angel in the sky who came down to him in a dream one windy afternoon. When somebody comes along that carries her attributes, Kire may just make them something special on request. Looking like his muse is not hard and generally standing at a distance when requesting the creation. Seeing as he's the only one who knows what the muse looks like, it does require a bit more luck on the customer side of things. Do not squander the gift either, Kire might hold a grudge forever.
Outside of his prejudice and work habits, Kire is friendly and enjoys learning new things. He will happily chat up any cute person who comes around as long as they look feminine enough to his terrible vision. He doesn't consider his poor vision a detriment even though everyone else does and is determined not to let a little thing like blindness stop him from getting everything he wants.
STRENGTHS: Working the forge has made him relatively strong. He could probably lift a whole sack of potatoes maybe. He can beat cats in staring contests too. Also there's how he can forge things adequately. His terrible defensive training in all forms of combat have also helped teach him how to roll with a hit to reduce the pain.
WEAKNESSES: If something is more than a few feet away from him, he's going to need his glasses to figure out what it is. That means he dodges things about as well as a sack of potatoes. He's not very self aware at the best of times so he can be pretty stupid even when he's being clever.
LIKES: He loves pretty girls, though considering his vision, that is not a very high standard. He's also a huge fan of fasion and is always trying to learn about the newest armor and blades.
DISLIKES: He absolutely hates liver. Also he doesn't like when other people act impulsively, he is the one exception obviously. Kire also does not approve of the caste system and how some people believe themselves to be superior based only on birth, or clan, or luck.
AMBITIONS: Kire wants to change the world. Not just in small ways, but he wants to be a part of the biggest upsets and darkest myths of all time. He wouldn't mind seeing the empire fall to somebody wielding his sword or saving a general's life by making strong armor. Some day, centuries from now, he wants to be the spirit who empowers a scion. He'd also like to figure out how to make a more durable glass for prettier armor and weapons.
WEAPON: A ceremonial sword and occasionally a spear.
Weapon Upgrades: Masterwork, Violently Crafted, Serrated Edge Weapon.
SPECIAL ABILITY: Masterwork Crafting
• Father Bou, Hare
• Mother Bou, Weja
• Mentor Mitsuji
BACKGROUND: From the time he was old enough to lift a hammer, Kire was put in front of a forge. Tales and prophecy in a secret sect had told that there would one day be a swordsmith to rival Masamune or Muramasa. A smith whose creations would have the power to divert the course of history with a single swipe. Hare and Weja decided, why not their son? And so Kire learned to forge. The crafting of blades and armor became his life as his parents passed him around in secret as the one the prophecy spoke of. Despite this, he showed no abnormal crafting ability and progressed as anyone would had they devoted their childhood to a single craft.
On his tenth birthday, he was given a test. He would have to surpass a journeyman in craftsmanship of a sword. It took Kire two years to finish his creation. Then it took a third as he redid it after being told that he didn't understand the soul of a sword. When finally it was done, the sword was taken from him and stored in a secret place. In return, he was handed another sword. This was an ancient blade, said to be made by Muramasa. It would awaken his scion powers so that he could better create and fulfill his destiny. This had no effect. After awhile, they got a Masamune blade to no effect. Then they tried several of the craftsmen's tools. Then they tried other legendary swordsmiths. Nothing worked and Kire simply was not a scion. So they gave him his sword back and sent him back to the forge to continue honing his craft. It was during this time that he was actually taught how to use his tools of war, although taught is a strong word for it. Most of what he learned was offensive in nature as he had never really gotten the hang of defending himself, even when he was given glasses by Mitsuji.
Well those that decided such things did decide that all this training wouldn't go to waste, after all, the prophecy didn't specify that the swordsmith would be a scion. So Hare and Weja took Kire to try and enter Edo Bugei. After all, if he was to improve, to get close to, and eventually change the world by providing quality weapons and armor, what better place than among the elite and future warriors. After a demonstration of great potential, Kire was accepted. He still might agonize far longer over a piece than was necessary, but he never let go of shoddy equipment that could not serve its purpose.
Once in school, Kire was given an unprecedented amount of freedom and began exploring his new options thoroughly. Unfortunately, he often was not allowed to wear his non regulation glasses. So after some very unfortunate luck and a complete lack of ability, Kire found himself kicked out of several clubs. Then he found the Apothecary club and it all seemed to make sense. Plants were easy, like the forge, and making a medicine or poison required patience and care, but also quick and decisive action. These were things he had learned from over a decade at the forge fires. In fact, he liked it almost more than the forge.
