Edo Bugei is first and foremost an academy. This means everyone attending is either a teacher or student, and must attend classes. From history, to science, to combat practice, various classes will be offered that can help your character brush up on things they already know, or expand horizons with new areas of study and special training. These are a great chance to learn more about your fellow students and bond with your instructors. They will also raise your status in the academy.
Lectures on People: These cover famous people from Japanese history.
Lectures on Events: These usually cover famous battles.
Skill Training: Which covers combat techniques.
Art classes: These cover crafting, performing, etc.
Club Missions: Missions carried out for and by school clubs.
Field Trips: Rare classes that will take students to amazing places all over Japan.
With most of the world still using a feudal type system many issues arise in modern times. The two main issues being that rival lords through out Japan go to war with each other, in which case the Bugei students will be asked to defend an area, or take down an enemy force. The second major issue is peasant uprisings. When this happens Edo Bugei students are usually called upon so that a lord does not have to order people from his or her own province to kill each other.
Though rare, a foreign country will either issue a challenge to the Shogunate, or ask for assistance in foreign matters. Thus the Bugei students may have to travel to a different country. In the worst case scenario, foreign lords may even invade Japan. If this happens then pro and anti Tokugawa forces will be ordered to put all differences aside in order to defend the country.
All missions are split into six ranks. Each mission will have a rank number showing it's difficulty. Ranks one and two are usually for first years. Ranks three and four are for second years. Rank five for third years. Rank six missions are extremely dangerous and a mixed team of students, usually guided by at least one teacher, is preferred.
City missions: Missions inside of Edo to improve the city.
Protection Missions: Missions that involve escorting people or cargo.
Rescue Missions: Missions to retrieve people captured by enemy monks or ninja.
Suppression Missions: Which do with putting down dangerous groups or individuals.
Retrieval Missions: Rare missions in which students are sent to recover relics from all over the world!
Not all missions will have rewards. Most missions are given to students in order for them to gain experience using what they have already learned in class. However, all missions need to be completed. Every mission and class will help both the student and the country. Also keep in mind some missions may have special rewards for those that go above and beyond or think outside the box.
Occasionally active, hard working characters may receive an offer to complete a gaiden. Gaidens are long side stories that will be randomly offered by staff in order to help an active character complete a personal goal. Accepting and completing a gaiden thread by give someone a large discount on a specific shop item they've been wanting, or help them find clues about an enemy mentioned in the character's history, or even help put them in contact with someone to quickly move them closer to a long term goal.
Every few months a major site wide event will happen. These events will consist of multiple threads and be put in a special event area at the top of the RP area. Participating in these events will give you great prizes and help you meet other characters. They are also extremely important for moving the site story forward. We request people post often in these as they can take quite a while due to the number of members and length of the threads.
Site wide events will have a prologue and epilogue NPC post. This way even members who have been away a while will understand what is going on in the event, and everyone will understand what will happen after the event is completed. It may also have Supplemental NPC posts through out the event to show you what other characters are doing while the event is going on.
