Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 7/10/2017 A blood red summer has come. As the Edo Bugei students finish facing off with the ikko forces all across the nation a massive steel ship floats towards Edo Harbor. The final battle between the Ikko Ikki rebels and the Edo Bugei students is about to begin. The lingering question now, just how much of Edo will be left standing once the battle ends?

Edo Outskirts/Late afternoon/Spring

It was a cold day in Edo's outskirts. Clouds had covered the sky all day and as the hour was approaching sunset it was only set to get colder. Standing near the entrance to a small woodland area, looking as calm and menacing as always was the elite sniper Kiryu, Rai. To many it may have seemed odd to have a quiet sniper take over the stealthclass for the day instead of a shinobi student, however in Rai's mind she was clearly the best choice. She came from a low ranking family and worked her way up through Edo Bugei, training directly under the now deceased Saika-sensei. With a brown cloak over her head, a shinobi mask over her mouth she waited for her students to arrive.

Rai waited with clipboard in hand. Standing at the edge of the woods like an angel of death. She barely seemed to move as the student's approached. She would simply hand the clipboard to one student at a time and wait for them to properly introduce themselves to the others.

With how chilly the day turned out to be, Hana had expected a least a little drizzle here and there- but much to her disappointment Edo would get no such blessing today. She grumbled at the weather, but her pearly whites weren’t in disagreement with it. Not as she fiddled with the straps of her waist tie reefer, the light fabric of payne’s grey swishing around at her knee caps as she moved about. Even if it was the middle of spring, she wasn’t going to risk the cold with this weather.

If anything, she wanted nothing more than a perfect day at school, maybe if she was lucky- she’d impress the teacher!... Once she figured out where she even was. Judging from the information she’d been given, she was to look for a Kiryu Rai- she was bubbling in excitement as she thought of the name, she’d heard a lot of good things about the woman. To have her as a teacher, even for just one day was a once in a lifetime deal.
Thankfully, Hana had been boiling over this since the day before, so by the time she was ready, she could very well take a walk through Bugei, right up until she reached the outskirts. She hadn’t gotten a chance to map out the school as yet anyways.

As she approached the forestry, strands of stark white pressing to her face in the wind. She finaaly spotted a woman bearing striking resemblance to her own mother. Not in looks of course, she had never met a person who looked exactly like her mother- but instead in formidability, Hana was a little choked by the woman’s aura. She couldn’t help but feel a bit afraid, though she’d only admit to feeling slightly threatened.

As she came closer, she wasn’t greeted with words of any sort, nothing more than a clipboard. She looked it over, did everything she was expected to do with it- the interest of being a good student filling her with resolution as she smiled at the woman.

“My name is Sanada Hana, it’s nice to finally meet you, Rai-Sensei.”

On the outside, she was calm and collected, doing her best to give off a sense of professionalism and not fiddle with the pins holding her freshly cut hair in a bun. Her spears were strapped securely to her back as she looked back at the school, the tones of her clothing blending in with both to forest and the weather. Now all she had to do was wait.

Class is in session!

That morning, Natsume had woken up with an ache in her bones - a tell-tale sign of rain. She had made sure to wear her thicker clothes, which was just as well; they were darker and would be more conducive to stealth operations.

But the rain had not yet arrived, and Natsume peeked out from under her wide-rimmed hat to glare at the sky in frustration. As she made her way towards the woodland area where the lesson would take place, Natsume would occasionally hold her hand out, palm up, to catch any raindrops. Soon she was trotting across the last stretch of road leading up to the treeline. Up ahead, she could see two figures.

There was another student waiting there already, and Natsume checked the time to make sure she wasn't late. The teacher was a solemn figure, a stark contrast to the white-haired girl standing in attendance.

Natsume considered her classmate - would such a bright hair colour make it difficult to hide? She noticed the other girl had brought weapons - spears, as far as she could tell - while Natsume had left her naginata at home, opting instead to bring her father's old jitte. She had assumed that a long weapon would be in the way of training, but perhaps that was a mistake...

Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Natsume stopped in front of the teacher and straightened up.

"Kobayashi Natsume, ma'am. Ready and willing to learn."

Edo Outskirts/Late afternoon/Spring

(OOC: waited a week.)

As the students showed up the lone sniper looked at them, her eyes carefully going over each of them to try and determine what kind of people she may be dealing with today. Hana and Natsume quickly introduced themselves as a third student stood back a bit. Not that it mattered much in the grand scheme of things. Rai was dressed in her usual all black sniper gear. As she lowered her mouth guard it revealed pretty lips carrying a serious expression upon them.

"Welcome." she said and gave a polite bow, clearly keeping her voice low as she said it. It wasn't merely because this was a stealth class, but because it was a habit belonging to the sniper herself. As she walked around to look at the students she seemed to give off little sound, even with all of the grass below her boots. Her breathing also seemed far more slow and shallow than the students.

"Please. Tell me. What do you think stealth is?" she asked curiously.

Natsume's eyes followed the teacher as she walked around the class, sizing the students up. Everything about the woman was composed and fluid, in constant motion, and with the way Rai-sensei was dressed, Natsume half expected her to disappear without warning in a puff of smoke. Instead she said:

"Please. Tell me. What do you think stealth is?"

Natsume wasn't sure if she was addressing the whole class or someone in particular, so she waited a moment before responding.

"Ma'am. I would say that stealth is to make yourself a part of the background, ma'am. To fit in like a puzzle piece.

"If on a cloudy night you disappear into the shadows, that is stealth. But if on a busy city street you can act like one of the people milling about, that is also stealth. "
