Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 02/17/2018 The Chinese delegation have now arrived at the city of Edo. They have come to learn more about the state of Japan, the Shogunate, and it's Scions. We will be having a Lunar New Year's celebration, a school dance, and a combat tournament with them!

Outside the green house with a backdrop of potted herbs and ferns on wooden shelves sat a blonde girl with a serious look on her face. Scattered cloud rolled by toward Edo harbor in patches of grey and white overhead in the midday sun. She sat upon a large cloth to keep herself from getting dirtied by the school grounds with a notebook and pen with her as she read a book. From afar it looked to be a studying session and it was exactly that, however, the book they read from had a cover on it rather than a visible marker to show if it was a math or science course. In actuality was this study session a language course, an Ikko language course.

Due to the sensitivity of the subject, the Honda princess fashioned a book cover out of one of her scarves and set to read out in the open with it. Thinking that holding up in her room or studying in the library would be too obvious that studying that villainous group's language did she opt for a more open approach.

The book in her hands was the language of the Ikko. It was, odd, to say the least. Mika saw it in the store that looked the least gaudy and bulky than other weapon choices. Despite her distaste for those against the Shogun, these people were wild and too easily influenced. That girl from the battle continued to bother her slightly in her behavior and death. If such a person can be so driven by pretenses then...maybe....these Ikko would have some use for her own gains. Just a matter to studying how they speak.

The day was nice and jinn was calmly walking near the greenhouse. Jinn was mostly known as a lazy person that didn't do anything. It was funny to Jinn most of the time since he was passing every class with ease. It wasn't because he was studying hard. It was because he did the second year for the so many times. He was stuck in second year since he didn't want to choose a specialization. He wanted to stay a all round person that could do everything he needs too.

While Jinn was walking around he saw a girl sitting with a book and was wondering what she was reading. He calmly walked towards her. His steps were quite even when he walked through the grass. Jinn was a trained assassin by his clan and his lack of sound and noticible aura was prove of that. His laziness was another story though.

Jinn slowly came closer to her though if she wouldn't notice him he would look over her shoulder to see what she was reading with his blue grey eyes of his. It took him a couple of sentences to find out what she was reading. "Ikko language?" Jinn asked her while he looked over he shoulder. "Learn the language know what your enemies say when you are spying them. Smart move." he said calmly towards him. His voice sounds tired though. His voice mostly sounds tired and unmotivated since hr was mostly tired and unmotivated to do anything at all.

She read and tried to learn what she could. Words that were key, locations that sounded ambiguous, phrases that looked like from a Chinese poem; but it mostly a mess. The book was a record but not a very organized one at that. Her brows furrowed at this unruly disorder as the clouds drifted by. In the passing shadow of one into another, a moment’s darkness shaped into a singular rounded form that didn’t move with the rest of the transitioning shadows. At first Mika stat still like a cornered cat, caught in anticipation of what her suspicious guest would do.

For that, a tired voice seemed to praise her. Strange to be praised in such a manner, so she thought, and took her brush as if to write more notes. Yet, this brush was her relic. With a swipe over his legs, ink spilled from the tip over their ankles. If he were to move or complain, it wouldn’t phase the girl as much as their compliments did. Moving will, however, reveal that their legs would be anchored to that spot thanks to her relic’s snaring capabilities. The brush returned to its case and a thumb turned for the next page without giving him a reason for her actions just yet.

After reading down half the page of what words meant a brothel and the main proprietor of the establishment did the girl find a stopping point to now address this strange male figure. “And you are...?” Her head tilted upward to stare at him with a doll like expression.

Jinn didn't react or anything when he got the ink on his ankles the same counted when felt he couldn't move his feet anymore. Jinn just mentally shrugged it off. He didn't care if he couldn't use his feet of not for a small period of time although he found out what her relic was right now.

Jinn looked right into her eyes when she started to look at him. Jinn's eyes looked lazy and unimpressed. His left eye was covered by his hair though like it was most of then time.

Jinn wasn't surprised she didn't know him. Jinn didn't knew allot of people either. He only knew the people he went on mission with and mostly he forgot their names also since there were to many to remember for him or he just simply didn't care about them.

"They call me Jinn" he said calmly towards here in the same lazy tone as before. He looked towards the book ones again before looking back at her. "So Ikko language. It is for interrogation or spying?" After the sentence a small yawn slipped out of mouth. Followed by scratching the left side of his head.

“Noted,” she spoke and returned to her book. This boy neither cared much for things and looked like he posed little effort to do more than stand over her. Maybe it would be better to think of him less of a boy and more of a plant like the ones in the greenhouse behind them. The provided shade his figure brought wasn’t wholly helpful but granted to be rooted for a short time, Mika debated more if he is a rock or a tree than what was on the current page

Another question posed to her about the book was given by this talking tree. Mika shrugged a little with a page turn of yet more words. Making sense of it would be rewriting the whole thing. For the why aspect in purchasing this book, the girl thought it over. Possession of a book on the traitors language and two options were brought up; to interrogate or to spy. Be that as it may, Mika had her own question for this strange seemingly upper classman.

“This book would be useless to you then , would it not?”

Even with a book cover placed over it and by gleaming the contents was he able to recognize Ikko as he saw it. How oddly sharp for someone lackluster.

Jinn dropped himself backward so he was laying in the grass. His eyes staring at the sky towards the clouds floating calmly by. His arms stretched out to the sides while he let's out a small sigh.

Jinn shrugged at her comment. About the book being useless."Nothing is useless. Everything has a bit a value to everyone. Learning a language would help someone with undercover missions or to intercept messages from someone. A book on the otherhand can serve to hide weapons or can be even used as weapon." He said with a simple shrug. His voice didn't change tone though. He showed a bit of how his head worked. His trained assassin mind together with his strategic view on things might him think differently then most of the people at the school.

Still off the mark of her goals. Undercover work and the like wasn’t what she was intending for this as the tree fell with an unsettling thud. Her head turned to see that he took the easier course of action to lay on the grass. Standing must have been too much of an effort for him. The Honda princess sighed and rested back against the glads of the green house more comfortably without the tall figure looming over her.

“By that phrase, we are all but things as you lay there,” Mika commented rather nonchalantly. Her family poured their resources into making her brother into a lord. She would lose everything and soon her home status once coming to age. She sighed and wondered the best course to take till this clueless tree happened here.

“Your words speak of being content as a tool and mindset of a spy. How small.”

Jinn calmly shrugged at her comments."It doesn't matter what your rank is. Everyone and everything is a tool. Everyone would use everybody. Even the emperor gets used by everyone." He said calmly still staring at the sky.

"It doesn't matter what you do or want. There is always someone that would use you for something. Everyone gets trained and or forced into doing something by the clan or group they are into. They get trained because of the parents or the leader off it all. Even the clouds itself don't have a free will." He said while staring at a cloud. jinn was someone that didn't believe in ranks or what so ever. Ranks were just prove you did something. jinn himself might be a second year although he mostly got send to rank 5 missions most of the time because of his skills.

All that was true. Peope using eachother for gains and themselves. A basic utility of why finding people at all if someone wants tk get cut and dry about it. “Sadly, fallen tree, no one asked of rank.” She felt to clear that up with a bitter glare at his leg as if it were filth and vile. “Waxing your ideals isn’t what a plant does, if one speaks like you do.”

Studying like this was fruitless but the book remained open. It was better to look at than whoever this person was. The intruder didn’t speak their name so neither will she. So she sat staring at the page long than needed. He was but a singular individual and should have stayed that way but his mannerisms spoke of something else. Mika was aware that despite being the princess of the Honda clan did that mean nothing till advertised to be married off. What little trinkets such as the clan emblem in her phone strap were but decorations and the blonde hair a dye tonic for fashion. No one cared for these and students didn’t care the same way. Frankly, without some desire to do something, she may as well have killed herself last year.

“However, even a fallen tree has better repurposing as a log...”

Continued dialogue with this self waxing fallen tree only served to draw the bitterness out of her.

Jinn didn't really care what she said about him to be honest. Jinn never really cared what anybody said about him since he had lots of rumors going around. Jinn just stared at the clouds. He loved the clouds. He wanted go float around just like them. Having a nice breeze going around all the time while he traveled around.

Jinn looked at her for a second before staring back at the sky. "So what is the reason you have the book then?" Jinn said calmly. Jinn was wondering that though since everyone did something for a reason.

Jinn was lazy for a reason and that was because he didn't had any challenges anymore at the school. He was stuck on this second year for too long and the only challenges he had were the missions he got ones in a while. He was mostly reinforcement though since he was capable if doing everything needed. Jinn was someone that kept himself as all round as possible.

Now he asks. Mika closed the book and rubbed her eyes a bit from staring at the pages so long and a slight migraine from mr. log. Her ink that rooted him in place no longer bound him and remained as just a stain on his shoes. Her hand dropped the book in her lap and went for her phone to search for any text messages from the Home Ec. club. Finding nothing did she then pinch the bridge of her nose to release some stress thanks to his looming and waxing.

"Not for the obvious reasons you stated and not for self learning pleasures," she replied to gladly get that off her chest. It bothered her how he stuck to such simplistic measures of spying or information gathering. Mika planned to head down the spy track as her profession of choice but has mostly tried her had at information. That task ended up proving to be more difficult in active missions and questionable partner choices to act out how she once envisioned it to be.

"And why be interested in what I do?" She asked him more pointedly with a strange emthasis on herself. Mika rarely encountered many nosy people and those, like her twin brother and family for a little over a year now, had cast her alone to fiddle with whatever happened to be her whims of the time. Having someone pay attention to her and praise her in the same vein made the jaded girl react on reflex due to that oddity. "Were you intending to borrow it from how interested you were just a moment before?"

Jinn sighed a bit in her responses. He wasn't in the mood to play around the bush when he asked something. Jinn was too direct to play around the bush. "I wanna know for since I am always reinforcement. I am the last resort most of the time." Jinn said calmly towards her before staring at the sky.

"So when I come to save your ass I want to know what you all know before I am even there so I can figure out what you all have tried." He said "So why are you learning the language?" he said in a tired tone before he stretched himself out.

It maybe sounded a bit cocky on how he said it but it was true. Jinn was the reinforcement for most mission since he was all round and capable of doing everything. He could take any position at any time. It was the specialty of his clan to adapt to everything and everyone.

The fact he claimed himself to be reinforcement had her stop to look at him for a once over. This lanky male with the cock sure attitude swimming in lethargy is that sort of reinforcement? Mika felt more disgusted on a personal level to have that sort of person to fall back on when her vanguards will fail her. Given her lack of support in being that role for her currently made the reality even worse.

“I’ll consider that notion to ensure I won’t have to,” she replied. Knowing what sort of backup was there might encourage a few to work a bit harder to avoid that circumstance. His lazy attitude nearly played too well in his favor to not go into action which brings her back to the main issue; the lack of vanguards at her disposal.

Now was it his turn to be irritated. Good good, Mika approved of this to have some nerve plucked in him. The book reopened to the first earlier sections for review as she gave her reason on why she wanted to look inti the Ikko at all thab completely shun their organization.

“For better use than their last leader.”

Mika wanted to be the one to use the Ikko.

The difference between Jinn normally and on missions was huge. Missions were one of the few things that kept him on his toes. Jinn loved a good challenge end the school itself didn't give him any so he mostly relied on missions to get it from.

A small Chuckle escaped his lips when she said she didn't need any back up. "You will never know." He said calmly while staring at the sky.

Jinn looked at her for a second and just shrugged at her "Well good luck with that." Jinn said calmly. The ikko were citizens though even though when they are viewed as bad people by most of them. If they needed help with big chance the school needed to help them out. If they wanted or not.

“If not, then maybe putting you into action more will send a message across.”

His chuckle felt like a challenge that his safe seat wouldn’t be disturbed. As much as she would have liked to make arrangements for a failure, that would be endangerment toward herself more than anything. The pages turned slow but steadily even with his doubts of using the Ikko. Having a large organization like that will be challenging in terms of leadership. Thanks to the radicals of their most recent movement keeping whatever remained in hiding, the people conned into them was concerning. The memory of that one girl bothered Mika. The sworn revenge so baseless that they drove themselves into a difficult corner.

“Luck and sane minds. Hard enough finding proper vanguards on tasks. Hardly reliable...”

The lack of a good enough guard had her lament on the work ahead. Attacking by herself was strenuous, no part in hiding inside a filthy building damaging her lungs for required antibiotic treatments that one time, that she’ll have to scheme a bit further. Making traps on the spot took too long for the enemy to be right kn top of her. Mika hated the state of her body to feel required to seek a bodyguard.
