Sengoku Horizon

Look towards the Horizon

The Warring States Period: Fierce warlords fought for control of Japan, and many would perish. When a warrior falls, where does the passion they once held go? Possibly into something dear such as a favorite weapon or heirloom. These heirlooms have been labeled as “relics”, and those that carry them are labeled as “Scions." Recently more and more of these special relics have been activating, signaling the start of a great change as ancient power meets the modern world!

Now For The Local News, 7/10/2017 A blood red summer has come. As the Edo Bugei students finish facing off with the ikko forces all across the nation a massive steel ship floats towards Edo Harbor. The final battle between the Ikko Ikki rebels and the Edo Bugei students is about to begin. The lingering question now, just how much of Edo will be left standing once the battle ends?

Merry Christmas and hope you all are having a great winter!

Later on this year when things settle down, you are invited to a party in Kaga. Before we can make full reservations yet, we're sending this out to get a head count of attendees. We'd like to show some real Kaga hospitality!

Please look forward to the next update. This will be a far off plan.

I just had this thought while making a thread.

What if there was a shrine students can go to, weekly, to ask for a fortune drawn for them. When given, the rank of the fortune can be used to apply for discounts at the Student Store or maybe for better forwards from missions.

It would be like a one time use coupon the expires the week after the person has acquired it so it'll need to be used in some way.

In terms of rankings, the fortunes can go like
  • Great Luck-Greater rewards from missions or 50% discount from store
  • Good Luck-Some nice rewards, maybe an item or connections or 20% discount from store.
  • Normal Luck-Your mission will go just as planned, 5% discount from store.
  • Bad luck-The mission may not go smoothly, possible chance that over coming this may yield a reward but it's unlikely. No discounts.
  • Horrible Luck-Mission turned out to be a higher grade than originally assigned. May get better rewards in over coming this or a few days in the hospital and a scar or three. No discounts. Tie this to a sacred tree if you want to avoid this one.

If not applied to anything after a week later from drawing, the paper is just a paper.

[January, light gray skies, lots of snow around still.]

Another new year has come now and it was back to Edo many students and residents had to go. The new years fireworks that went off remained as spectacular as the last; maybe even a bit more so for Edo Castle to keep their citizen's at a peace of mind. Snow littered everywhere in Edo still with many decorations down by now yet lights that strung up on the trees and walkways remained a bit longer for those cool nights. Now is a more different celebration. The color red can be seen standing out brightly against the white backdrop. Banners, flags, streamers; everything for the color of luck.

Red is that lucky color everyone seemed to agree upon as far back as anyone could remember. It was also this time of year that everyone visited shrines. Family shrines and even the larger ones brought in many people for them to say their prayers to the gods and hope for the best. Lines practically formed themselves in every direction to offer prayers or draw fortune lots of all kinds. Luck, Life, Love, Happiness and all sorts of things. It may be scoffed at by more realistic people but a little could go a long way for most others.

Suishoku shuffled along after leaving a train station after coming back to Edo a week ago from home. She wore a thick scarf over a brown winter coat as she made her way toward Sensoji Temple in northern Edo. Around her and in passing, lovely ladies in vibrant furisode walked the streets. Around this time was also the Coming of Age ceremony where anyone that will soon to be or just turned 20 and unmarried in the area walked about seeking prayers and possible husbands. Despite being mostly a celebration of adulthood and eligible marriage advertisement, they all looked amazingly beautiful, spring flowers standing among the snow. Suishoku smiled at the sight of them as they passed her by.

Knowingly, she too would wear something like that next year but wasn't sure at the same time. Usually it's worn by women of the local area. Would Edo Bugei students be allowed that sort of thing since they come from all around Japan? She pondered on this while crossing the street and looking up at the thin winter grey sky today. It was still a ceremony though so it's likely they would be allowed to wear them all the same. Does that make me too old now? A stray thought had her wondering of this as well. Many of the friends she had made were first years and some young ones at that who are about 3-4 years younger to be more like little brothers and sisters. Age never seemed all that important to Suishoku before so the Coming of Age Ceremony just happened to prompt it.

A throng of people were already at the temple as Suishoku arrived. The giant red gates a famous landmark and many, many shops before it all decorated spectacularly as the next. Most of their goods were temple wares and charms to gifts. All very pleasing to look at and eye catching. She approached the temple to enter past the main gates where the grounds were. Lines ahead of her all formed toward the main shrine and some off to the side for fortune readings. Thinking praying to the shrine was more important, Suishoku filed in for her turn. Maybe some other students would be out at this time too since this is one of a major and popular shrines in Edo. It would be nice to meet and catch up on how their breaks had gone.
